I am interested in information on Jacob Christensen and descendants. Jacob was born 1839 in Denmark and married Christina (Metta Krestine) Hansen. They came to America in 1869. Their sons were Charles, Theodore, Ernest and Walter. Some of the sons moved to Montana and settled in what is now Glacier National Park. Charles married Laurine Marie Nielsen and there children were Ruth, Hugo, Lillian, LeRoy (Bob) and Evelyn.
Thanks
My Christensens came from Denmark to Nuckolls County, NE, and then
finally to Davey, Lancaster, NE, which was a Danish settlement of sorts.
Since, of course, Danes practiced a system of patronymic naming, all the
(supposed) surname Christensen means is that sometime in the 1800s a
father had the given name Christen and his sons were then named xxx
Christensen and his daughters xxx Christensdatter. This convention went
away--slowly following the decree--in the late 1800s. Therefore, the
chances of any two Christensens being related is about zip and the
chances of conducting successful Christensen genealogy searches via
Denmark are very small--knowing the originating parish is mandatory.
The notion of a "Christensen Coat of Arms" as related to Danish
Christensens is ridiculous. This is all nicely explained at this page
for the "Denmark List," which is highly recommended.

Greetings:
The RootsWeb Message Board for CHRISTENSEN is now gatewayed to this mailing list.
Here is what you can expect, and how to handle some new things.
First, you will start seeing messages that were not sent directly to the list, but were posted to the message board. For the most
part, this will just increase the opportunities for CHRISTENSEN researchers to make contact. And that, of course, is the point.
Second, to reply to a gatewayed board message so the sender has the best chance of reading it, you need to *pay attention* to the
instructions. The message itself will tell you how to create a board reply. You may, alternatively, send your reply to the list, but
if you do that please understand that those who read only the message board will never see it.
Third, there is always the possibility of off-topic messages getting through the board and onto the list. This is rare, but it does
happen. DO NOT DISCUSS SUCH MESSAGES *ON* THE LIST. Just delete them and move on. Rest assured that I will take whatever action is
appropriate, without waiting for complaints. However, you are *always* welcome to send a message to me, for whatever reason,
PRIVATELY at either
angel-GENEALOGY(a)angelsinfo.info or CHRISTENSEN-admin(a)rootsweb.com
Please make sure that you identify "CHRISTENSEN-L" in the SUBJECT of the email!
Both addresses point to the same mailbox, which is mine. If there is a difference in speed, it will be measured in seconds -- a
*few* seconds.
Questions? Contact me OFF LIST and I will be happy to answer to the best of my ability, or find out for you.
This is a potentially rewarding change that should increase all of our chances of finding those elusive CHRISTENSEN relatives. And
now, back to the search.
Good luck with your continued research! and Happy Hunting!
