Okay. I've updated my family tree leading down to Agnes so you should be able to connect your tree in from there. I'm going to try to give you access to my tree now, if I can remember how to do that!

Kristine ... I, too, am so happy we connected! We will have to figure out our connection eventually.
I plan to begin scanning the book today.
I know you are moving - so I don't want to bother you - should I send several pages at a time to you or would you rather that I wait until the entire, 250 page book is complete?
Are you here in the USA as well?
Carol

Big news! I found how we are connected. My line is also descended from Ludwig Karl Agricola, BUT (here's the kicker) I THINK that going back from your direction, you are not descended from his son Johann Friedrich Heinrich, but from Johann's brother, Friedrich Johann. Confusing enough for you? I'm descended from Johann Friedrich Heinrich. I'll update my family tree and make sure you're linked into it so you can see the connection.
Later!

My book references the existence of the one you have, actually! How exciting!
By the way, my mother is German and I speak some, so anything you can scan and get to me, we can help translate.
So glad we connected!

By the way, in the book I referred to in my last post, Ludwig CARL Agricola is spelled with a "C". I guess that doesn't make the spelling official but that's how it is in print in the book I have.
And ... yes, you are correct about Christian Johann AGRICOLA! His middle name is "Johann" and the birthdate is March 8, 1705 in my book. I have made the appropriate changes to my Family Treemaker software.
Thank you.
Carol

Oh, thank you! This is wonderful news! I would be most grateful for any information you can scan and send me regarding my line of AGRICOLAS! Good luck with move. I'll be patient in the meantime.
Eventually, I will be interested in knowing how we (you and I) are connected.
I have a German book that was written Bernard AGRICOLA in memory of his father Otto Ludwig AGRICOLA. It is a collection of family memories. It is full of valuable information. I need to learn how to scan book and post them as PDF's online so that anyone can read it. My problem is that I cannot read German, only English. I have used translation software to transcribe some pages that I believe to be of particular interest to me. This is a project I will pursue now that I have connect with you!
In the meantime, here is a photograph from 18 years later (1892) of the same family!
Thanks, Carol

Gorgeous photo, and yes, they're all in the book! I've found at least one additional picture, too. A few things show up in the book slightly differently than what you have below, though. I have Ludwig Karl spelled with a K, and his father is listed as Christian Johann Agricola with a birth date of March 8, 1705, not 1704.
I am in the midst of a move right now, but come next week, I should have some time to begin scanning pages relevant to the names you list below and uploading them to Ancestry.com. I'll attach what I find to this email thread first. Should give you LOTS of information. How's that sound?

Here's what I know of my AGRICOLA family!
My great-grandmother was Agnes Elizabeth Caroline AGRICOLA (1871 - 1929). She was born in Kreuznach, Germany.
Her father was Otto Ludwig AGRICOLA (1829-1902). He was born in Gotha, Germany.
His father was Johann Friedrich AGRICOLA (1790-1862). He was born in Ohrdruf, Germany.
His father was Ludwig Carl AGRICOLA (1740-1807).
His father was Christian Sohem AGRICOLA (1704-1774).
Does any of this match up with your family history?
I am aware that there is a book entitled "Agricola Family History" by David V. Agricola. It is out of print and I have been unable to locate it online.
The attached photograph was taken in 1874 and is of Otto Ludwig AGRICOLA and his family. His wife was Caroline Margarithe PERTHES. The oldest daughter is Emmy (Age 8), then in the front, left to right is Martha (Age 4), Ernst (less than 1 year), and my great-grandmother, Agnes (Age 3).

If you go back far enough, yes, the Agricola side of the family hails from Germany. Georgius Agricola, the mineralogist, changed his name from Georg Bauer in the 16th century, as was tradition when someone earned an advanced degree. He was the first Agricola in the family line. I have TONS of history on that side of the family. A distant relative published a book. Are you related to the Agricolas from Germany somehow?
