Is there anyone on the Crisman or Chrisman mailing lists who descend from Charles N. CRISMAN and Nora B. BERGER who lived in and near Williamsport, Lycoming Co., PA?
Charles and Nora Crisman had a large family; one of their children was a son Raymond E. Crisman. Raymond had a daughter Esther I. Crisman who was an only child and never married; Esther Chrisman died June 30, 1978 in OH. In her will she left her estate to her heirs (un-named). In 1979 a hearing was held and the attorney who handled the estate had done genealogy research and came up with the names and addresses of 47 heirs for Esther -- all of them either her then living aunts/uncles and/or their living children.
(Surnames on the names/address list of known heirs my mother in law received in January 2002 were Crisman, Crissman, Chrisman. Others were Bair, Buss, Nuss, Miller, Kuntz, Moran, Hall, Foust, Geppert, Rohr, Leffler, Fry, House, King, Bilby, and Barrows. Since the names and addresses were over 20 years old in January 2002, it's possible a lot of them never received the January 2002 contact from the Probate Court.)
My mother in law is one of these heirs. She has had the same address for 30 years, so she has received whatever has been mailed. Well, she had not heard much in the past 24 years. Some years ago the original 1978 attorney died and his attorney son was appointed the administrator. She thought the estate was probably not worth much and it was finalized long ago. Apparently it has never been finalized. In January 2002 out of the blue she got a copy of a Status Report dated January 2002.
It was filed with the Probate Court by the administrator. It said that 18 of the original 47 known heirs have died. (No suprise.) He also said that the estate should be final within 6 months. (Now, that would be a surprise.)
The Status Report was 2 years ago and not a word has been received since. Apparently Ohio probate courts will allow an administrator to drag out a probate estate over 25 years.
Anyone on the list descend from Charles N. Crisman and Nora B. Berger? If so, your grandparents or some relative, or perhaps you, got a notification from the probate court in 1980 like my mother in law did and thjen you or they should have got one January 2002 -- or the attorney did not identify you as an heir in 1979 and it is probably too late unless you descend from one of the original 18 who have since died. .
Please contact me if you descend from Charles N. Crisman or know something of his unmarried daughter's estate. My mother in law is now 81 years old and wondering when she will get her inheritance. We thought whatever it was, was small and pittled away years ago by the administrator. Apparently not, but time is marching on and the known heirs are dying off.
