Details of the first change in the fee schedule since 1988 are

http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm#_Toc517745431
"Fee Schedule For Frequently Requested Records. Requests for
records of Social Security number (SSN) holders, claimants and
wage earners, are covered by a . . . fee schedule based on the
full cost of processing the request. . . We are increasing some
of these fees beginning July 1, 2001 . . . We analyzed the costs
for providing these records and services; and we computed the
new fees on that basis. These fees were last increased in 1988,
so some of the increases are substantial.
Effective July 1, fees for processing requests for copy of an:
-- Original Application for Social Security Card (Form SS-5),
SSN Provided -- $27
-- Original Application for Social Security Card (Form SS-5),
SSN Not Provided -- $29

-- Search for Information about Death of an Individual,
SSN Provided -- $16
-- Search for Information about Death of an Individual,
SSN Not Provided -- $18

You can pay by credit cards; [SSA accepts] Mastercard, Visa,

To all: I received this morning and thought it might be of help to
someone. Carole in SC
" If you have been procrastinating sending off for a Social Security
application for any of your ancestors, now is the time to do it!
Effective July 1, 2001, there will be a major fee increase for processing
requests for copies of original applications for Social Security cards and
for computer extracts of this information. This has been confirmed with
Roger Williams in the FOIA office of the SSA.
New Fees (effective July 1, 2001):
Copies of the original application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5)
will cost $27 if the social security number is provided, and $29 if it is
not provided. These fees were previously $7 and $16.50, respectively.
Computer extracts of the application will cost $16 with the number and $18
without.
Requests postmarked prior to July 1, 2001, will not be subject to the new
fees. So, if you've procrastinated on your requests, get them in now!
Requests posted on or after July 1, 2001, will be returned if they do not
include the new amount and a credit card number has not been provided to
charge for additional costs."

From another List but seemed interesting enough to pass on when searching
census. Did also find something else interesting. Sometimes if you can't
find a ancestor on a regular census, look on the Slave census, thats how cuz
and I found a brother to our ggg grandfather as he owned some slaves. also
try this...the M in Smeathers was upside down and he was listed as
SWEATHERS...so something else to think about...happy hunting~~Nena....How
did the REUNION go all that went???
was born and lived in There is where I lose him. My belief is that his
mother and or father were at least part Native American. I believe was dark
enough that he could pass for white, so is listed as
Negro on the 1880 Census.
This was common during that period, as after the Civil War, Negroes were
able to travel, acquire land etc. Native Americans could not. There were
restrictions on the movement of Native Americans.

I signed onto this list because I am looking for a Barry Chrisman from Las
Vegas, Nevada.
We were in the Navy together in the early 60's on the U.S.S. Los Angeles, a
heavy cruiser out of Long Beach. When he got out in 1963 he went back to Las
Vegas
and went to work at the Coca Cola bottling plant. His dad was a Greyhound bus
driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello...I am searching for some information on Wallace Alexander Chrisman
and his wife "Biddy" Scrimscher [Cherokee Native American]. They had a
daughter Mary Jane Chrisman who m Thomas Earwood. They had a son name Edward
Austin Earwood b in TN June 1843. Thomas and Mary previously had lived in No
Carolina aft being marr 1830. When Edward was abt 7yrs old, other chrisman's
and Edward's parents decided to go to Texas in Lavaca county. Somehow the
parents did not make it as in the 1850 census in Tx, Edward is living in the
household of Wallace Alexander Chrisman and "Biddy" Scrimscher Chrisman. He
was in the Confederacy and make a note these folks were his "parents". Mary
Jane was Wallace and Biddy's daughter. Records in Lavaca county do not show
any cemetery listing for Biddy or Wallace or Edward. Speculation was "Biddy"
died in Lavaca co and Wallace went to LA to start over.
Any info would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi,
Just thought that I would add a couple more Jacobs.
Does anyone have any information about these two men?
...from 1880 Census, La Salle County, Village of Streator
Jacob Chrisman, aged 50, carpenter, born in PA, parents born in PA.
Emily Louise (Blanchard), aged 35, wife, born in MI, parents born in
NY
Milton, aged 14, born in Ill.
Sylvester, aged 7, born in Ill.
Matilda, aged 4, born in Ill.
Jacob Chrisman's mother, named Elizabeth, apparently died in 1877.
...from 1880 Census, La Salle County, City of Ottawa
Jacob Christman, aged 49, tailor, born in Bavaria, parents born in
Bavaria
Bertha, aged 40, wife, born in Hesse Darmstadt
Oscar, aged 11, born in MO.
Jacob Christman's mother, named Elizabeth apparently died in Germany in
the 1880's.
The Streator Jacob Chrisman that I am researching was born Jan. 28,
1830 in Rochester, Pennsylvania (maybe).
Can anyone help me find Streator's Jacob Chrisman father? He might have
been called Jacob also. The tombstone for Elizabeth, looks like it says
wife of Jacob. At least that is what the person doing the survey
thought. The survey was started about 15 years ago, now, we can't even
find the stone.
Why were there so many Jacob's?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Joanie Johnson
That Chrisman/Hite line ran through Christian County, KY at one time if I
remember correctly. My family connects into that Hite line a couple of time
... and then through a different branch of a Chrisman/Crisman family ...
same county just not related as far was we can tell.

B.J.,
I believe I recognize the clan of Chrismans that you are
referencing here, but suspect you have either labelled a
few cousins as brothers, or got the dates a little wrong.
The names clearly match those found in the clan of Chrismans
that settled in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. The names you have
listed come closest to matching the children of Jacob and
Mary (Plank) Chrisman. Their children were:
* John (1810-1892), m. Nancy Adams
* James (2 Apr 1817-1 Feb 1885), m. Katherine Amburn
* Elizabeth Ann (1816), m. James Clevenger
* Michael Louis (7 Nov 1819-6 Mar 1895), m. Lydia Rooks
* Phebe (1822), m. George Lesley
* Hannah (7 Nov 1824-28 May 1862), m. Martin Stucker
* Katherine, m. William M. Snodgrass
* Hiram Mathias (13 Feb 1831-28 Dec 1872), m. Nancy Ishamel
* Samuel Levi (10 Nov 1840-25 Dec 1864), m. Mary Jane Halloway
This Jacob was the son of Matthias Chrisman (1754-22 Oct 1834)
and Elizabeth Gross (1762-22 Mar 1852). They had moved from
Cumberland, Maryland to Flemingsburg, Ky just prior to 1812.
I note, however that although the above family does contain all
the names you list, the dates on Mathias and Samuel are not in very
good agreement. However, several of Jacob's brothers and an uncle
also were in Flemingsburg with families of their own which also contained
many of these same names. Since I don't know your source, I would
leave open the possibility that the conjecture may have been made
that some of these Chrisman cousins who were living in close proximity
were siblings, so perhaps you mixed the ages of some of these in.
The Mathias b. 1826 might be the son of James Chrisman (b. 1804/5)
and Keziah Harmon (b. 1804/5), who from the census of 1850 appears
to have been born in 1829/30. The name Mathias appears frequently
in this family, and might also easily be a grandson of Jacob and
Mary (Overlay) Chrisman. I also don't have a record of any Samuel
matching the 1829 birthdate.
Good luck,
Lonnie

The controversy over whether Jost Hite's wife was a Dubois or otherwise
was settled once and for all by the article "German Origins of Jost
Hite, Virginia Pioneer", by Henry Z. Jones, Jr., Ralph Conner, and Klaus
Wust, Edinburg Va 1979. You can also consult Bergert, Vol 1 p.255 for
the information.
Records have proven out that Jost Hite's wife (Magdalena (Hite) Chrismans'
mother) was born Anna Maria Merkle on 16 Jan 1687 in Bonfeld (Germany),
the daughter of Abraham Merkle (b. 1 Mar 1661) and Anna Veronika. Abraham
was the son of Jorg Merklin (1603-16 Dec 1686) and Eva (1617-13 Mar 1690).
They were not Dubois.
There have been many articles published, several near the end of the
1800s, claiming the Dubois link, but they were simply in error. Jost Hite
no doubt associated with the DuBois of Ulster Co., NY while he was part
of that community, but he did not intermarry with them. I do have a fair
amount of information on the DuBois since, coincidentally, my wife descends
from that clan, but no record of Toubouiss Dubois.
As for whether a daughter of Jacob and Mag Hite Chrisman named Anna
Maria marrie a Smithers, I think this can also be laid to rest. Jacob
and Magdalena did have a daughter, Ann Maria Chrisman b. 29 Sep 1735
in Opequon Va. who was married in 1753 to Peter Stephens. They had
several children up through 1770, and Peter lived to 1810. One of many
sources for this is the book "Chrismans - Virginia to Oregon".
Hope this helps,
Lonnie
