Joe,
I believe your Isaac Chrisman is the father of my ggg grandfather Harvey
Chrisman.
This is the information I have for Isaac and his children.
Isaac was married to Sarah Gholson May 22, 1788. They had children Harvey,
Elizabeth, (Neley) Cornelius, Dorothy, Isaac and Susannah.
Isaac married Elizabeth Stephens - Unknown. They had children George Clinton,
William, Elijah and Lucas.
Would enjoy sharing what information I have.
Paula
Thanks to the eagle eye of Helen Crisman who spotted Parke Crisman on
the index to the 1870 PA census, I was able to locate him and discover
that he had married and had children.
Parke Isaiah CRISMAN was born ca 1838 in probably Chester Co., PA. He
was the son of William H. and Hannah CRISMAN who lived in E. Brandywine,
Chester Co. He was their 5th child (2nd son). "Parke" was the grandson
of James CRISMAN and Jane McLAUGHLIN of E. Brandywine, and the great
grandson of Elisha CRISMAN.
At this time, the maiden name of Parke's mother Hannah is unknown.
However, "Parke" sounds like a surname to me, so I am going to be
following that angle. I checked early Chester Co. censuses and there
were PARKE families living in E. Caln which was next door to E.
Brandywine. An Abiah and a Jonathan PARKE appeared on a 1774 tax list
for E. Caln, so the families were in the area a long time. Hopefully
there will be lots of PARKE records.
Here are my abstractions for Parke CRISMAN and others I found living in
Harrisburg, Dauphin Co., PA in 1870:
Page 376, 9th Ward of Harrisburg, dwelling 64, household 65:
CRISMAN, Parke 33y carpenter Value of Real Estate: $1,400 Personal
ppty: $500 b. PA
"" Mariah 31 y born PA
"" Ellen 12 b. PA
Miller, George 1/12 b. PA
It was hard to tell if the 1 mo. old child was George Miller or George
Miller Crisman. I suspect that it was George Miller Crisman as Parke's
sister Sarah had married Andrew Jackson MILLER. Since it shows that
Parke owned real estate, I will be looking in Dauphin Co. deeds to
determine when he obtained ppty. Parke is on the 1850 census living
with his parents in Lewistown, Mifflin Co., PA. But he was not living
with them on the 1860 census.
If he was born ca 1837-1838, he would be 22-23 years old in 1860 and
probably out of the household. Since the census says Ellen was 12, I
will be looking for a marriage ca 1866-67.
Thus, it is possible that he served in the Civil War 1861-1865. I will
be looking for that, too.
Keep in mind that if a man served in the southeast until the war's end,
more than likely he marched thru the capitol in Washington DC in June
1865, then was mustered out at Washington DC. This may or may not have
some bearing on where Parke met and married Mariah. (See below).
On the previous census page, pg 375, were 3 young Crisman children
living in the household of Charles and Grace MUENCH. Here's that info:
Page 375, 9th Ward, Harrisburg, Dauphin Co., PA, family no. 119:
MUENCH, Charles 67 bricklayer Value of Real Estate $6,100; Pers ppty
$8,000 born in PA
"" Grace S. 65y b. PA
QUINN, Margaret 26 servant b. PA
SMITH, Eliza 33 servant b. PA
CRISMAN, Lilly (sp?) 1 yr. female b PA
CRISMAN, John 4 yrs. born "D C"
CRISMAN, Carrie 1/12 b. PA (another 1 mo. old?)
Charles MUENCH sounds like he was a pretty wealthy man. I'm wondering if
the Crisman children are his grandchildren and if Mariah was Mariah
MUENCH.
Other Crisman's on census:

Harrisburg:
CRISMAN, Lamar 33y RR engineer NO real estate value; Person ppty $300
"" Sarah 31 y b. PA
"" Eliza 6 b. PA
"" Elmer 4 b. PA
I do not know who Lamar Crisman was; he was not Parke's brother.
Another one in Dauphin Co., a woman living with 2 others, probably
boarding:

FRAZIER, Millie (sp?) 37y "keeping house" born in R.I.
LYLE, Annie 21y "at home" born in PA
CRISMAN, Emma 21y ---- the occupation slot was blank -- b. PA
Have no idea who this Emma Crisman is. She was not one of Parke's
sisters.
Hope this helps others on the list. -- Helen
PS -- My husband descends from Parke's older brother Israel M. Crisman
born in 1829 in probably E. Brandywine, Chester Co., PA. Israel Crisman
left his parents home in Mifflin Co. at ca age 20 in 1849 and went to
work as a carpenter in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., PA.
He is on the 1850 census as a single man. Israel married Sarah FEGLEY,
a girl from Brady-Gregg township area then in Lycoming Co. They then
purch land in Gregg twp, Union Co. (same place) and are on the 1870 and
1880 censuses for Gregg twp, Union Co.At some time between 1880 and 1900
they moved to Williamsport, Lycoming Co. They are on the 1900 census
living in Williamsport. Between 1905 and 1910, Sarah died; my last
record for Israel Crisman is the 1910 census when he is 81 years old and
living with his son Loyd in Williamsport. I am currently looking there
for Israel's death date and burial place.
