I have a question for all of you who are researching Seaborn Choat. Does
anyone have any information about Indian heritage in the family? I have an old
envelope that was handed down to me. On the front of the envelope was
written "Joseph's family", and in it were three small tintypes. One is of Joseph
Fisher, the oldest son of Sarah Choat (daughter of Seaborn) and Elias James
Fisher. The second one is of Joseph's first wife, Virginia Dennis. The third
one is of an older woman who, I believe, is Sarah Choat Fisher. I know that
Virginia Dennis's mother died around 1863, and that she was in her 20s at
the time, so I doubt this picture could have been her. That leaves Sarah,
Joseph's mother, as the most logical lady in the picture. She has high
cheekbones and a very weathered face, and, to me, she appears to have very strong
Indian characteristics. I had all three of these tintypes restored, and now have
very clear images. The picture of "Sarah" is absolutely one of my favorite
pictures! I am guessing they were taken around 1880, give or take a few
years.

Here is another Seaborn Choate to toss into the mix. All I have on the
family is the following:
Seaborn E. Choate, b. 10-23-1846, d. 4-10-1911
M. Isabelle ??, b. 10-23-1846, d. 11-16-1922
Had a son named Mack E., b. 3-30-1886, d. 9-13-1974
All three are buried in Corinth Cemetery in Eastland Co., TX.

Some info comes from others in that line, which they could have made a

TN census and it says Nov 1889----so I would think yours would be a better
date.

I have some of them..............there were still some family reunions in
Keller/Roanoke in the early 90's when my grandmother was still alive. A lot of
the Alexander descedants from William attended, and I do have some of that
info. I had a cousin that delved in the Alexander genealogy more and I will
have to see if I can find his name and see if his e-mail address is still valid.
Anyway, in my database, I have mostly names on that side back to Robt C and
Sarah Ann Prewitt Alexander that were married in 1841 in Roane Co., TN

Bev,
Thank you so much for what you have given to us and I understand that you,
like most of us, have collected this information as we could and some might
be right or not and that was why I asked about Sarah. I was "supposed" to be
named Sarah and was born on her birthday but mother decided at the last
minute that she wanted me to be Tera instead of Sarah.
You are a WONDERFUL Dr. Watson and I, for one, appreciate any information
that you give. I am so sorry about the fire...I've kinda hit and missed the
information about it so I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I'm sure you
are still putting it all back together and I pray that it all comes together
soon.
Thank you for your patience with us Sherlock's...I just don't have enough
time to GO and do all the research I would like to and I appreciate you
sharing your wheel so that we don't have to reinvent it all the time.
Tera (incidentally if you ever come across Teri Beth Choate, daughter of
Robert Everett Choate and Hazel Opal Priest, that is me...mother spelled
Tera with an I and so I have fought all my life to NOT be called Terri and
use the Tera spelling on most everything that is not a legal document so if
you search for a Tera you won't find that in the genealogy!)

The only Patience Choate that I have listed is born 1838 Jackson., TN. She
never married and died in 1911 and is buried in Cookeville, TN.............she
was the dau of John Choate (John is son of Austin and Naomi Pyburn Choate).
So I guess that does make her a cousin...........there is a long story on
Curtis Medder Choate and I don't have the details at hand---but I remember that
he was born to Sarah (Sally) Choate out of wedlock---before she marr. Wm
Ramsey.
I believe Lucinda Laycock died in 1857 and I think Curtis remarried but
don't have details on that one...........................
As for the census, Lucinda is listed with Medder Shoat (everyone has to
remember to look for all the spellings of the Choate name) in the 1850 Jackson
Co., TN along with Jacob, Nancy, Sarah, John, Curtis and Lucinda's mother
Elender.
Lucinda and her mother were born in NC while the others were born in TN

Hey Roy,
I didn't get an attachment? Fannie Choate was the daughter of Ceburn and
Mandelia Winningham Choate. She married a Hargis and I know they had a few
kiddos. I don't have my genealogy stuff with me right now as I am at work
but will try and let you know more about who she married and their kids this
weekend. Bev may have that information to you as well by then. I know that
they had a son named Guy, daughter Juanita (both of whom I met many years
ago). There was another brother I believe maybe named Tom. I think they are
all gone except Juanita.
The Lankford (other than I grew up with some where I lived) and Vaughn lines
are not familiar to me.

Ron,
What is your lineage back to Seaburn Choat? My husband descends from him
through his oldest daughter, Sarah. I would love to compare notes.
I missed quite a few of these listings while I was out of town. I came home
to over 500 emails, and unfortunately had to delete many unread.
Sue

Your grandmother Laura Emmaline Alexander was the sister of my great aunt
and uncle.........William Alvin Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Choate.
Uncle Willie and Aunt Mary moved from Fentress Co., TN to Roanoke, TX around
1902.........Uncle Willie and Aunt Mary picked my granny, her sister and
their parents (Hattie, Ida, Russell and Margaret Choate) up in a horse and
buggy, when they arrived at the train station in TX, coming from TN in
1903.........so I guess we might be cousins in some way........
I have Laura Emmaline as marrying James Jacob Choate and having 3 children:
Gilbert Ray, Iola and Robert Everett..........would love to have more info on
them, if you would like to share.............
Would love to hear things from someone that still lives in TN from the
Choate/Alexander side.......my e-mail is _bebalebok(a)aol.com_
