Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good luck, Tara, and thanks for being one of the best list
administrators I've seen. This is a good list.

Hello all,
Delighted to see the list is active again. However, I need to retire as
list admin. It's not a hard duty. Just change the web site (I can do it)
so you are the list admin, then you will get a little extra e-mail when
mail bounces. Please let me know if you are interested. I am moving onto
other projects. Thanks.

I've found 2 letters in the pile I"m sorting. They were sent in 1958
and 1959 by a Mrs Eulia Choate Tyler to my aunts. She is searching for
information about her father, William Melton Choate, b 1837 in Robinston
Co. TN. If anyone wants a scanned copy, let me know.
Another newsclipping found amoung the pile of old letters. This one is
from the Denton (TX) Record-Chronicle, and the date written at the top
is January, 1965. It is a picture of a Rufus Choate and his wife,
Alice. It states that Rufus is 52 and that he and his wife have moved
to Unalaska Island in the Aleutians. Formerly, they had ranched in
Montana. It notes they have three children. I'll be glad to e-mail a
scanned copy to anyone that likes.

There is a page with a picture of a Mrs. Frank Choate and her daughter,
Mary Choate.
May 4, 1921. There is also a letter stating that her husband has left
her and daughter, and gone to live with another woman. Also mentioned
is Frank's brother, George Choate. The notes say a Sam Choate is
mentioned, but I don't find it in the letter.

Old Settlers Roll
A listing of Cherokee still living in 1851 who were all ready residing
in Oklahoma when the main body of the cherokee arrived in the winter of
1839, as a result of the Treaty of New Echota (1835). Approximately one
third of the Cherokee people were Old Settlers and two thirds new
arrivals. The 1851 payroll lists Old Settlers (Cherokees who moved to
Indian Territory prior to December 1835) entitled to participate in a
per capita payment. There were 3,273 persons enumerated on this roll
which is arranged by Cherokee district and grouped by family. Some
persons who did not reside in the Cherokee Nation are listed as
"Non-residents." Three thousand, two hundred and seventy three Cherokees
were enrolled and received two hundred, seventy dollars and ninety five
cents. The "Old Settlers" filed a protest against the sum. The Supreme
Court decided that the original "Old Settlers" or their heirs would
receive an additional one hundred, fifty nine dollars and ten cents per
share in the 1896 "Old Settler" payment.

It is a mess. I'm never sure if anyone can straighten it all out. It
would help so much if the ancestors hadn't used the same first names
over and over! I'm sure that you will finally figure it out, and
we'll
all be very grateful too!

In my data I show that William Choate and Rachel Simril had the following 9
children:
William Webb
Ceilly
Augustine Davidson
Cynthia Douglas
Violet Bary
John
Newton
James Simeral
Rachel Elizabeth
I also have Ebenzer, SC mentioned in married notes but can't remember
exactly what that was.
Had this in notes for William's father (Augustine):Served in Pre
Revolutionary Colonial Militia as a Sgt. in the Bedford Co Militia. (From "Colonia
Militia" by Crozier, Pg 68)
Furnished a house for Rev. War effort. in Pittsylvania co. VA (from Mrs.
Maude Carter, Pittsylvania County Genealogist, no date of record)
Although my direct line is Austin Bulger Choate.........William's father,
Augustine, shows to be my 1st cousin, 6 times removed.................go
figure!!!!!!!!
*L* I'm sorry. I really typed my question wrong. I meant to say that
Thomas Choate was the husband of Elizabeth Keith. Yes. I know about
Thomas Kyle and Elizabeth Renfro. That's my line. I just don't recall
hearing the older (father) Thomas as being addressed as Squire, but why
not? It might explain some of the later people being name Squire.
Thank you, Joe.

They both did.
Squire Thomas Choate married Elizabeth Ann "Keith".
Thomas Kyle (or perhaps "keith") Choate married Elizabeth Renfro.
Squire is we believe a name and not the title.
To make matters worse Squire Thomas had a son named Squire.
and Thomas Kyle also named one Squire.

Native American claims are addressed in two ways. Each of the Federally
recognized tribes have a very good website that addresses these
concerns. one is Paper work starting with the Dawes Roles and now DNA.
Look at FamilyTreeDNA or Ysearch.com. I believe testing is now
available that will indicate your Native American descendent. It will
not prove her heritage only that a Native American line is mingled with
yours. If you get more proven descendants involved then you can begin
to exclude other persons as being Native American. Looks can be
deceiving. Old photos may give indications but unless they are well
documented they are indicators and not proof.
Hope this gets your started

Hi Cathey,
Nice to hear from you again....I have been trying to make the connection among the Choate, Slover and Titsworth lines but I have still come to the same conclusion.
Benjamin Titsworth and Margaret Susan "Peggy" Titsworth were both children of Colonel Isaac Titsworth....but only half-brother and sister.
There is some disagreement that Benjamin was NOT really the son of the Colonel because he didn't live in the same area as the Colonel. I have found paperwork that indicates that Benjamin and his brother Abraham were living close to Winnefred Hunt's father, John Tipton Hunt Sr. When the Choate and Titsworth families started migrating into the Arkansas area, Benjamin and some of the Hunt families moved along with them.
John Tipton Hunt, Sr. lived in Western Country of North Carolina in December 1787, There was a dispute over where to erect a new government. Later there is this documentation:
DEED BOOK "A" of Mason County, Kentucky, pages 119 & 142 4 August, 1791
John Hunt Sr., of Bourbon County, District of Kentucky to: John Hunt, Jr. and Basil Hunt of Sullivan County, Tennessee, of the new Territory South of the Ohio River, for ninety pounds (90) lawful money of Virginia in hand paid 316 acres of land being part of survey made for Jacob Mires on waters of Licking River in County of Mason.
signed: John Hunt Sr.
Witnessed By:
John Cook
Alex Ramsey
Benjamin Fitsworth
NOTE: Following my Daniel line, one Roland/Rowland Daniel of Tennessee m. Elizabeth Ramsey but I have not followed this line to see if she is connected to the Alex Ramsey above.
Next I found this information about John Tipton Hunt, Sr.
John Hunt Sr. settled first in Bourbon County, Kentucky, but due to an error, he found he was settled on land that was a part of a Military Survey for a Mr. Wright. In disgust, he moved to Fleming county, Kentucky, sometime before 1799.
On 30 October, 1810, John Hunt's heirs filed a suit against Thomas Jones Jr., in Bourbon County Circuit Court for recovery of land or money paid for it. The heirs would show their ancestor, John Hunt Sr., did on 1 March 1791 purchase of William Lee, a pre-emption of one-thousand (1000) acres in Bourbon County. Their ancestor discovered that part of that tract was covered by Wright's Military Survey; that parts were sold to divers persons, and leaving that part interfering with said Military Survey; that John Hunt Sr. moved to Fleming County; that a certain Thomas Jones Jr., surveyor, discovered that the balance of Lee's pre-emption did not interfere with Wright's tracts; that the old man, John Hunt Sr., died about 1807 without leaving a will, leaving orators and also another son, John Hunt Jr., who refuses to report the right of his ancestor, and who released his claim to said Thomas Jones Jr., by release dated September 1809; that since the death of John Hunt Sr., not more !
than
three years ago, they discovered the fraud practiced on their ancestor.
Orators: Reuben Hunt, William Basil Hunt, Absolom Hunt, Benjamin Fitsworth and wife, Winny, Joseph Denton and wife, Dradenna.
I have still not found any information about Viola Titsworth and Ira James Slover but I still think that there is a connection to the Colonel Isaac Titsworth family lines.
Also, I don't know if you have found this information out but it appears that Samuel Slover died in Austin, Texas and is buried in the Chote Family Cemetery along with Benjamin Choate and his wife Mary Suggs. Quite possibly my Ira Ellis Choate is also buried there. The Chote Family Cemetery is still in Austin but the headstones have been removed and now is in the middle of a housing development and looks like an open field. It is located at 6205 Idlewood, Austin, Texas.
Keep in touch,
Berlene

Wanted to say thanks to everyone for taking time and trouble to reply on
these.
The Christopher Choates issue will go on and on, I am sure!!! I didn't mean
to imply that I alone could straighten that mess out, but will try to get
clear on all the info I have collected through the years.......I may have it dow
n, but doesn't necessarily mean I have it in the right place, but I have to
put it down so as not to lose it!!! I started out being a Sherlock Holmes on
my Austin Bulger Choate line, but have become a Doctor Watson just collecting
Choate stuff!
Here is a page that if you haven't seen, it is worth at least a
look.................Always, Bev
