Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Rootsweb has been having some problems and doing some updates so I believe
that is why things have been so quiet, plus with the holidays and cooking,
everyone has been pretty busy.........anyway:
This question was on another list I belong to. I thought it was very
intresting....So now I'm asking<G>
This Thursday is Thanksgiving when family and friends gather to give Thanks.
If you could invite an ancestor who would you most likely invite? Give the
name, where they lived and dates or approximate dates...

Today is the first thing I have had from the Choate list for a long

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the information and I think that quite possibly you have given me something that I can pursue.
My ancestor, Sanders Choate, is believed to be the son of Moses Choate. Moses is the brother of Christopher Choate III. So Benjamin Choate who married Zora (--?--) could very well be connected to my line somehow. Many of Sanders descendants moved into Texas during the 1850s also. His son, Benjamin who married Mary Suggs, died in May 1894 at Austin, Travis County, Texas. Benjamin and Mary were in Carroll County, Arkansas in 1840 but starting in 1850 they are located in Austin, Benjamin was born in 1814 also in Tennessee.
Thanks again and "on with the search"

The only Ellender Choate I have in my database, which isn't my
line.........but I have this one as being born in 1794, and marrying Nicholas Kelly in
July 22, 1813. They moved to KY.
But I don't have the birthplace of Ellender..........her parents
were:Richard Choate and Ann Jane Lowe............again, this is information from my
database that I got from another genealogist....I have this Ellender as having
these siblings: Sarah, Flora, Elias, Rebecca, Herod, Deborough, Mary, David,
Jesse, and Harriet..........I also show that David was in Simpson Co., KY in
1825.......I show Herod as being born and died in Reisterstown, MD....
Hopefully someone else in that lineage can give you more help.............

Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the information but I have my doubts if this is the correct Benjamin Choate.
The reason is that the one I am looking for was born about 1860 in Arkansas and the census records you enclosed were for Tennessee. The census records tha I have found also state that Benjamin's father was born in Georgia...and as much as I have tracked Choate families, I have not found ONE in Georgia who migrated into Arkansas (probably through Tennessee). Sanders moved into Arkansas and Silas moved into Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).....so the search continues but if anyone runs into someone who looks "promising" please let me know.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my query. It is very much appreciated,

Hi List,
I was wondering if anyone can connect with this Choate line?
1900 U. S. Federal Census - All Townships, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory
Shoat, Benjamin b. May 1860 age: 40 b. Arkansas fa: Georgia mo: Tennessee occ: Enginer
Shoat, Zora b. ??? 1873 age: 27 b. Missouri fa: Georgia mo: Tennessee
Shoat, Lester b. Sept. 1891 age: 8 b. Indian Territory fa: Arkansas mo: Missouri
Shoat, George W. b. Feb. 1895 age: 5 b. Indian Territory fa: Arkansas mo: Missouri
Shoat, James A. b. Apr. 1896 age: 4 b. Indian Territory fa: Arkansas mo: Missouri
Shoat, William L. b. Mar. 1900 age: 2/12 b. Indian Territory fa: Arkansas mo: Missouri
I believe that Benjamin and Zora died before the 1910 census period as I can no longer find anything on them and the family story is thar George Washington Choate became an orphan at an early age: Also, given the age difference between Benjamin and Zora, I think this may be a second marriage for Benjamin.
I did find a Georg Shote living with James and Hatty Stanford in 1910 in Quinton-District 241, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.
George married Ethel Mae Mitchell in Oklahoma and they both died in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California.
I would really like to find information about what lines Benjamin and Zora belong. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for you time,
Berlene Jacques
