Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have a whole lot on these Choates, too much for here. I have your Thomas,
married Elizabeth Keith as Squire Thomas. I am not a genealogist - I collect
people, getting data from others. If anyone is interested, I would share.

Hi List,
Evidently, I have given the wrong link to access the Mississippi Territorial Papers. The following will take you to the Giles County, Tennessee site. On the left of the page is a green box and toward the bottom of the box you will find the link to access the papers. I am sorry for the confusion....first time I have submitted a link to the list.

I hope I have gotten it right this time.

Hi all,
Before Christmas I offered to send copies of some Choate letters to any who are interested. Unfortunately, I lost the e-mails from interested parties. Please contact me again at

Happy New Years Choate Researchers!
I just found this link in Rootsweb and hope it helps someone out with their research. This is a copy of a Petition signed by the inhabitants of Giles County, Mississippi (later to become part of eastern Tennessee) listed as signers of this petition of 1810 are:
Chot, Moses - Shoat, Vantenten (Valentine?) -Shoat, Austin - 2 Shote -Kirkendall
Also note that there are two Sanders men who have signed this petition....could this be how my ancestor Sanders Choate b. 1790 obtained his given name? It is intimated that these settlers had come to the area from the same place.
Within this site it is set up so that all the petitioners may be searched alphabetically.

I have put together a website thru AOL honoring my mothers side of the
family, she was a Choate from Adair county (Bunch) Ok. It does not have a lot
of text information but does serve my purpose of putting them in a place of
well deserved recognition.
