If anyone is descended from this Choate, I've now got a picture of his
tombstone (and that of his wife) in my computer that I can e-mail to
them.

I don't have much information, I have just started to look. My father was a
Navy pilot and we traveled which meant I didn't learn much about these
relatives. If anyone can link me to their Choates, I would be interested.

Hello Everyone.
I know these Choates! (Bruce you out there??)
Gabriel (50) is brother to my ggg grandfather Powhatan Choate, T.J., J.F. are
Gabriel's sons (ie first cousins to Nicholas Houston, Lucy Choate Bird etc).
I am not sure about A.L. because I don't have my notes. Gabriel's wife was
Jane Brewer, hence all the Brewers.
In 1850 Gabriel and family are in Dade Co MO. census. That must have been a
brief stop because none of the history of the family I've seen ever places
them there. (It is transcripted at the Dade Co Mo website..He is "Babrel"
and the transcripter made to two families out of one, but everything else
fits)
Gabriel and Powhatan are the children of Gabriel Choate and Lucy Webb who
were married 1804 or so in Stokes Co NC. Gabriel died in Robertson Co TN in
the 1840s (again don't have my notes) Powhatan first bought land in 1853 in
Dade Co MO, but somehow was in the Davidson Co TN census in 1850. I found no
BLM land records for Gabriel in Dade.
Gabriel (father of Powhatan, Gabriel and siblings) is the son of Edward Jr.
and ?? of Henry/Franklin Co, VA. The
connection back to Christopher Choate I is a little murky here.
