First - this is not my line. The information I have was given to my aunts by

perhaps you might get some clues from what they had.

I'm hanging my head in shame and embarrasment. I've lost the name and
address of the lady who shares my Mathew Long ancestor. I've found
the will!. And I've transcribed it on my webpage

Thanks Barbara. Yes, I do know Jack Choate. Jack's father, Steven Strickland
Choate, and my grandmother, Mary "Addie" Choate were siblings. In fact, I've
attended their Choate reunion for the past few years - a wonderful group of
people. I do know for certain though that the father of Thomas Mathew Choate
was David Bartlett Choate, b. 1823 in MS (not Bartholomew) and Thomas' mother
was Polly Ann Judson (not Jetson), b. 1823 in Fulton Co. IL, (daughter of
Nathan Judson and Lucinda Brockman). I have looked high and low in Tarrant
Co., TX for David Bartlett's gravesite and feel I'm zeroing in
but............. I'd certainly like to hear from anyone else too that
subscribes to the Choate list for I am making another trek to Texas this
weekend!! This has been my burning question for the past 8 years!!! Thanks
again.

Hi Pat:
Remember when you got all that Choate information from Doyle Brittain.
About the same time I got mine. There were about 12 children of Squire
Edward that were split between the 2 Atwell sisters. Nine for Nancy and
three for Rebecca.

Hello All,
On the NC Granville list someone posted a list of wills that could be ordered for $1.50 each from a Fresno CA firm called "Strictly By Mail". It specializes in NC,TN and KY records and has its microfilm's indexes listed so you can see if your fellows/ladies are on a particular microfilm right away.
I was going through their website at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hollow/2972/
And wondering around various records. I find they have court records Davidson Co TN for the following:
Isaac Choate -- 2 records as defendant in debt
Moses Choate -- 1 record as defendant -- stolen horse
Moses Choate -- 1 record as defendant -- trespass
It is possible that all of this has been posted before, but in case anyone is interested, there you have it.
Because they have lots of county microfilms indexed by name on line you can tell when there is a land deed, some wills, etc. for your folks.
My best to you all,
Janet Hunter
According to my aunts..
The first marriage to Nancy Atwell is in the "Marriage Records 1838 through
1858, Lawrence County, TN"
They didn't make a note of where they got the second marriage from...just that
Rebecca Atwell was a sister of Nancy.
They put one note on the page:
"There have been discrepancies --generally in dates but sometimes in names--in
the information given by various descendants of Squire Edward Choate. They
agree on the greater part of their family history."

I have the same Squire Edward Choate as posted, however I have two wives,
Nancy dying in 1861, the day after the child was born, and hte second wife,
Rebecca Atwell, who would be the mother of Gideon. As to finding out where I
got the info, I am afraid I am no genealogist and have not been good at
recording sources. I'm sure I got it off the net, however.

The Gideon "Buck" Choate that I am looking for lived in Trigg Co. Ky. What I have found is that he was suppose to have died May 17, 1911 at the age of 72. This is all that I have been able to find out about him. Other than a Child that was my grand father Lacy Hopkins. Who passed away 2 years ago. Maybe some on is looking for this same family.
Thanks to Barbara who sent me that web site.

Hello All:
I forgot to mention that there are a Benjamin Jr. & Sr., and a Thomas Bird in Buncombe Co NC with the Choates in my previous post. They are here:

Janet
Fellow Choate Researchers:
Doing search for "Christopher Choate" (using new and exciting search engine: www.alltheweb.com try it!)I found a website that has several years of Buncombe County Court records transcribed in 1790s.
Well....you can imagine what my first thought was when he showed up there in court records..But actually Christopher, Moses, Austin etc are mentioned several times, in connection mostly with road work...and Christopher Choate's company appears to have got the contract to do the work on at least one location. They are only in the first two links at the site, however.
There are some of our other recognizable Choate-related names, including VANCE (recall the horse stealing incident about this time in Washington Co TN), WEBB and Benjamin HAWKINS. You all may have other names associated with Christopher's family as well that are there.
This is the first set of transcriptions. There are links to more at the bottom:

My best to you all.

Hello All..
This from the San Francisco Examiner Website:

Janet Hunter...
Toni and Jacquelyn Choate
Toni Choate, a Santa Cruz man who was living as a woman was returning to the
San Francisco Bay area with his daughter, Jacquelyn, after vacationing in
Mexico.
Choate was a general contractor and cabinet finisher originally from
Visalia, Calif. She was formerly known as Larry D. Choate, but changed her
name and started living as a woman in the mid 1990s, according to friends
and relatives in the San Joaquin Valley.
Until the early 1990s, Larry Choate worked with his father building houses
in the Visalia area.
He then moved to Sacramento, living there about five years and building
redwood decks for condominiums, said Vicki Elliott, a friend. Sometime
during that period, Choate began to identify himself as a woman.
She moved to Santa Cruz in 1995 and bought the Savoy Bar in Santa Clara,
Calif. About a year ago, she moved to San Francisco.
Jacquelyn Choate grew up in Sacramento.
As a child, her father took her camping and water skiing, Elliott said.
"He was an excellent father, as far as taking her places and showing her
things," Elliott said. "They were real close."
To those of you who have been asking, Jacqueline & Toni Choate, who were on the
Alaska Airlines flight that crashed have now been given a residence of San
Francisco. As of this morning I have not seen any other information on the news
links on the net. I usually check first with cnn.com
