Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
There are a lot of Choates and different branches that have ties to Texas.
Do you have more information on this Grant Choate's family?

I recently received a communication from Mr. Grant Choate. He had
discovered that I was a Choate descendant living in Texas and hoped we
might help each other. As it turns out, I'm the first person in my line
to live in Texas, as far as I know, and I know nothing about the Choates
who came to Texas except what I read on this list ( I suspect we're
related further back). Anyway, I thought I remembered that someone on
this list was trying to locate Mr. Choate. If that's the case, contact
me and I'll send you his address.

Hello Folks,
I am the person who was looking for Grant Choate. And, I have already found
him but very much appreciate your thinking about me. He is online, sort of.
Actually, his wife is online. He still prefers snail mail.
He is the only person I have found who shares my linneage through Powhatan
CHOATE b. 1807 Robertson Co TN, son of Gabriel Choate and Leusy (WEBB?).
Powhatan married Winney HALEY/CALEY/WHALEY (I already have some of the
latter).I have just written him, so I am not sure from which of their sons he
descends, but most likely either their son Nicholas Houston Choate or Edward
Choate.
My line is through their daughter Lucinda Choate who married Henry BYRD, son
of John BYRD and Nancy COUTS (all of Robertson/Sumner Co TN).
Thus I am also looking for BYRDs and CHOATEs as my direct lines.
FYI, I have a picture of Powhatan and Winney and their children courtesy of
listmember Mary Lou Reed. Powhatan looks like the definition of a Melungeon
to me, and I wish we could get a little bit more information on his
ancestors' spouses so we could sort some of this out.
Thanks again,
Janet Hunter
This is the URL for the Time Magazine Cover Story, issue of April 14, that is
on genealogy. A good portion of it seems to be on line, but I have never
made comparisons on the hard cover version vs. online version. The link is
on the top right side at the picture. Story title is "How to trace your
roots". Picture is of course a tree. Wonder who first used the expression
"family tree"??

I thought this would be of interest to all of you. I think most of the
article is on line if you don't want to spring for the $2.50 or however much
Time costs these days.

I've started a webpage where I list items I've found browsing through
e-bay that might be of interest for genealogy
(books/manuscripts/bibles). If anyone is interested, the following is
the address:
http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/sites/ebay.html
I don't have any connection to ebay at all. It's just that there are
SO many pages to browse through (This time I went through 60 pages).
I hope you enjoy them.

Does anyone have any info on Henry A. Choate who died during the Civil War?
He was in Co. H, 30 Tennesse Infantry. He was married to Sue L. J. ?? and
they had a son, Harry. I believe he was born in or near Red Boiling Springs,
TN.
Sue later married William Jackson Byrd, my ggrandfather, who was also in the
Civil War. Any information about him or his family would be appreciated.

Subject: Choate query
I saw where you had posted a note to Dodie Finstead on the Robertson
Co., TN. page and just wondered if you perhaps could post a short query
to your Choate lists for me, & anyone with info. could email me direct.
There was a Champion Choate that migrated with his family from GA.,
through Ark., and ended up in TX. just before 1850. One of his
daughters, Mary Choate, married a Littleton McBride. I do not know the
proper year. If anyone has information, such as date of marriage &
names of their children, I would appreciate hearing from you!
My great grand dad was Thomas Pleas McBride, born 3 Mar. 1854, died 27
Nov. 1925, and on his death cert., it list a Litt McBride as his dad,
and mother unknown to informant. The closest I have found to a Litt is
Littleton. I think Littleton was born in KY. & had a brother named
James.
Thank you very much!

Fellow Choate Researchers:
Think of "It's a Small World" playing....I have been doing some research on
my elusive Hortons/Martins/Mullins in Washington Co TN trying to figure out
where Margaret Martin (m. Isaac Horton 1810) came from. In going through
deed records lo and behold I came upon my gggg grandfather Daniel Horton Sr.
as a witness at a land transfer of a tract that abutted up against one
GREENBURY CHOATE. These are both my mother's lines but Choates and Byrds are
her mother's lines and Hortons/Martins are her father's lines.
Choates also in Washington Co TN deed records are Christopher, Austin and
others I can't remember. I have ordered copies of these folks deed records
abstracts at DAR. I will try to post them when I have time but am wondering
if anybody is in a particular hurry to see them. I am going Thursday (with
laptop) to CA to help my mother who just had knee replacement surgery, and
have been very busy getting work (as in job) done in preparation. Will try
to post them there.
Looks like our Choate boys blew through Washington Co faster than the Byrds,
of which there are several Greene Co TN families throughout 1800s. There are
no marriage records for Choates in either Washington or Greene Co and nothing
I easily noticed in any record after early 1800s. I haven't looked at all the
Byrd/Choate Washington Co deeds, so I don't know if this is another group of
fellow travelers or not.
FYI, several new, non-rootsweb lists are being set up for various Southside
VA counties. The information on how to subscribe, etc. follows. These
aren't my lists, but those of the lady who signed the information.
