I am wondering if any of you Choate researchers have noticed that when you
find a Choate, you also find a Byrd? I am seeking information on Thomas T
Byrd b VA around the mid 1700's. First found in Pittsylvania Co VA, along
with Choates, then in Washington Co, with Choates, then came to Sumner Co TN
abt 1786, Thomas T, William Byrd and Valentine Choate, bought land in the same
area. Then there were descendants of both Byrd and Choate, actually 2 sibling
Byrds married 2 sibling Choates. There has to be an early VA connection
between these two families. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mary Lou
There are lots of Choates listed in the STARR cherokee rolls book. But, I did
not find a Richard B. Choate. However, most of these rolls were taken before
the 1925 date you gave he must be a descendent ? It is a very good source
book and lots of
Choates everywhere, especially Oklahoma in the early 1800s.

Fellow Choate Researchers:
In "Choates of the South" by Irene Choate Williams, there is a reference to
Cherokee Records showing Choate marriages amongst Cherokees in the early days
(ie, bef. 1800
I found this reference in the CherokeeGene rootsweb list archives, doing a
basic search for Choat...Anybody know him?

Hi:
I received a message about a virus actually a worm, called "Happy99". I
didn't pay much attention but should have. I did not get it, but do know
people on a mailing list that did get it. It was sent to me but I did
not open it. It seems very innocent but is not and is for real. I may
have sent a warning to some of you, I can't remember who so I'm just
guessing who I did not send it to.

Fellow Choate Researchers:
I found several Choates in a list of members of the 2nd TN Vol Infantry:
The 2nd Tennessee was a Civil War (Union) volunteer infantry regiment formed
August 20, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky. Nearly all of the men were
from East Tennessee. Colonel James P. T. Carter was in command. The regiment
was at Wildcat, Mill Springs and Stones River, but saw little action. In the
fall of 1862 it was at Cumberland Gap. The regiment was converted to a mounted
infantry in June, 1863 and was one of the regiments in pursuit of Confederate
raider John Hunt Morgan through Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio in July, 1863.
Returning to Tennessee, the unit helped recapture Cumberland Gap and was
heavily engaged at the Battle of Blue Springs on October 10, 1863. A month
later on November 6, two thirds of the regiment was captured in a rout at the
Battle of Rogersville in Hawkins County, Tennessee. About two thirds of those
captured died at either Belle Isle or Andersonville prison camps before the
end of the war. What remained of the regiment after Rogersville was assigned
to duty in and around Knoxville and Cumberland Gap until it was formally
mustered out on August 3, 1865.
The Table of Contents for information on this infantry is:

An interesting site - talks about the possibility of Indian ancestry.
Some of it might be taken with a grain of salt though *smile*

Hello! I am looking for information on a Sabra Choate. I am not sure of when
she was born. She married David Dickerson or Dickinson sometime in the late
1700's. They were in Wilkes County, North Carolina at one time. They
eventually moved to Wayne County, Tennessee. I was told that she died there.
I would really appreciate any help with this line! Debbie
