I research Sarah Choate, born about 1772 VA and died about 1842 Wayne
Co., TN. She married James Hollis II about 1795 in probable Davidson or
Montgomery Co., TN.
According to some research she was first married to John J. Morris???
Our research indicated that she was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth

I'm sorry I misled you. The site has been updated since I last checked it -
there are more photos now and you can click on the picture and get more
information. I notice it was sent by a Barbara . Was that possibly you?

I found the right address. It's
http://geneagraphx.com/cgi-bin/Iax.exe/lost_leaves
That is a picture I have. I just don't know who it is. It was with the
family pictures among the Barefoot/Choate ones. However, I don't have
any older members of the family alive to ask. I was hoping someone might
recognize the lady. There was nothing written on the back of the photo.

I tried that URL, but it doesn't exist. Then I went to just
geneagrphx.com and it's a site that sells genealogy charts.

At a site for lost photos there is one of a young woman with the names
Barefoot or Choate under it. Is this any of your ancestors?

I found your Anna (Anne) in the "Choates in America " book. She was the
daughter of John and Elizabeth Giddings Choate - the granddaughter of the first
John in America. She was born in Chebacco - no date given - married to
George Martin on Nov. 29, 1706 and died prior to 1735. Her only child was
Elizabeth, b. Jan 17, 1708: m. Aug. 2, 1726, David Preston.

Fellow Choate Researchers:
[I thought I sent this to the list last week, and am pretty sure there is one
of you interested in Gabriel Choate and Jane Brewer. Maybe it didn't get
through so I am posting again]
I think I have posted the Choate households in the Dade Co Mo 1850 census
before but I just relooked at them when I realized that there were Choates
there before my Powhatan came in the early 1850s.
The census taker I think (a view shared by the county website owner) messed
this up fairly badly....They had one family mixed into two households, but
this is the way it should look.
Is this not the family of Gabriel Choate and Jane Brewer??? Gabriel was my
Powhatan's brother and it makes sense that they would end up the same place.
It appears they (Gabriel and Jane) stopped off in Missouri on their way to
Arkansas. Of course Sabrit could translate this way too. But the two oldest
sons below seem to coincide with information posted here on Gabriel and Jane.

I don't think they stuck around, because my cousin Grant Choate has accounted

Perhaps there should be further study about what constitutes occultism. We
all fear what we don't understand. At the mention of "occult" we all run
away screaming, "witchcraft, satanism, sacrifices, evil" oooh!
What I fear most is fanaticism, about anything.
An excellent idea. To begin with, one should look in the dictionary for the
definition of "occult"
http://machaut.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/WEBSTER.sh?WORD=occult
Webster Dictionary
Oc*cult" (?), a. [L. occultus, p.p. of occulere to cover up, hide; ob (see
Ob-) + a root prob.akin to E. hell: cf. F. occulte.]
Hidden from the eye or the understanding; inviable; secret; concealed;
unknown.
Occult line (Geom.), a line drawn as a part of the construction of a figure or
problem, but not to appear in the finished plan. --
Occult qualities, those qualities whose effects only were observed, but the
nature and relations of whose productive agencies
were undetermined; -- so called by the schoolmen. -- Occult sciences, those
sciences of the Middle Ages which related to the
supposed action or influence of occult qualities, or supernatural powers, as
alchemy, magic, necromancy, and astrology.
Oc*cult", v. t. To eclipse; to hide from sight.
And it might be well to notice that it's use in connection with the
supernatural refers to the Middle Ages. And it refers to "supposed action or
influence of occult qualities". The important words are "supposed" and
"occult qualities" - which the latter simply means "hidden qualities".
Really, a very innocent word. *smile*

Whatever your positions I don't believe this discussion belongs on this list,
which is devoted to the research of Choate genealogy. It should have remained
private between the two proponents. Secondly, I certainly think it inappropriate
behavior for anyone regardless of their position to flame another because they
disagree. Take it off line people!
I was a Rainbow myself, and my daughter was a Rainbow, and a DeMolay sweetheart.
It was the best thing in the world for her. Gave her lots of confidence and
assurance in herself.
I know one thing. If I'm ever in a strange country and need help, the Masons are
among the first I'll go to for that.

Karen, you were ignorant. You have been informed and educated. Yet,
you persist furthering your misinformation. Therefore, you have become
stupid, vicious, malicious and dangerous.
Freemasonry is the human apex or epitome of Christianity, as you are
aware.
It is true, the Order of Freemasonry is a cult, but most certainly not
of the occult, anti-Christian, nor "sun worshipers."
Karen, you are a bigoted idiot. You are making my Masonic Grampaw toss
in his grave and are making your attempt to destroy all faith in a
Supreme Being for those who choose to believe.
Are Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalian, Catholic, etc., all of the
occult as well? How about all
the other God fearing faiths/cults of this world?
Is it also your intent to damn the Order of the Eastern Star, DeMolay,
Rainbow Girls and the Order of Job's Daughters?
You have flamed each Christian reader of this SIG and have insulted
every Christian of this world. Personally, you owe me and my families
your personal apology; should you claim to be a true Christian, I'm
certain you must agree your personal apology is due each Christian of
the world.
Karen, you are a fool! May my God show you mercy and enlightenment.
-----
Since you are apparently female, http://www.oescal.org/whatisit.htm
Q. What is the Order of the Eastern Star?
A. The Order of The Eastern Star is the largest Fraternal Organization
in the world to which both women and men can belong.
Q. Can any woman or man belong?
A. No. A petitioner must be of good moral character, believe in a
Supreme Being ...
Q. What is the basis of the Order of Eastern Star?
A. ... the Degrees of the Eastern Star around the lives of five Biblical
women. They were Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa. The reason
was that each of these Biblical examples stands for one of the tenets of
the Order. They are Fidelity, Constancy, Loyalty, Faith and Love.
Q. Does the Order of the Eastern Star have any special projects?
A. Yes ... Order of the Eastern Star membership supports Eastern Star
Training Awards for Religious Leadership and college, or university
scholarship awards to students of any race, creed, or color; Eastern
Star Home for its senior members in California; J. Clifford Lee and
Marguerite Rennie Memorial Cancer Funds; Memorial Cancer Dressing
Stations; Heart Research Foundation and a Benevolent Fund for the relief
of qualified indigent and distressed members, or Chapters. Additional
charities are also supported.
Q. Is my religious faith allowed in the Order of the Eastern Star?
A. Yes. Members of all religions may belong to the Order of the Eastern
Star. We only require a belief in a Supreme Being.
*laughing* Call it a discussion, Karen. BTW - your time clock is all messed up.
