> I am Laurence Choate looking for any relatives of Sam Reynolds Choate, born

The Choates in America, 1643-1896 by E. O. Jameson was originally published in
1896. In 1986, Choates in America, Inc., a family organization, reprinted the
book which quickly sold out. The Jameson book is limited to John Choate of
Chebacco, Ipswich and his descendants. Our organization is in the process of
collecting data for an updated version.
Photocopied versions of The Choates in America, 1643-1896 are available at
Higginson Book Company, Salem, MA, and at the New England Historic and
Genealogical Society, Boston, MA.
The only other Choate books that I am aware of are two volumes, both titled
Choates of the South, Descendants of Christopher Choate of Maryland, compiled
by Irene Choate Williams and published in 1983 and 1984. Mrs. Williams' books
are mainly collections of records with Vol. II devoted to Tennessee. I do
not know if these books are available as reprints or photocopies.

Not sure what books you are referring to but there is a book THE CHOATES IN
AMERICA by E. O. Jameson and published in 1896. It pertains to the
descendants of John Choate, Ipswich, Massachusetts and the "northern branch
of the Choates. Hope this is some help. I have this book and will look up
anyone in it for you if this is your branch of the family.

In reading the early postings of this group, I saw reference made to a book
written by relatives of one of the members. It was referred to as "Choates
in
America" (?published in 1966?). A second email referred to "Choates in
England", although it's possible that they could both be chapters in another
book.
For those of us who are new to the group, it would be useful to have the
reference to either. For what it's worth, Amazon.com and none of the
genealogic bookstores I checked on the web have any reference to these. Any
thoughts out there?

There is a great deal of information at this one place and thought the group
might benefit from it! Bev
I'm interested in knowing anything about a John Choate (died 1820) who married
a Martha Martin. These are my great-great grandparents. I have a lot of my
history, already but it's limited to the late 19th century and all of the 20th
so far. If anyone has any information about them, please email me at
Dorcaspnt(a)aol.com
Do you have any other information about him? such as state, county, etc.?

Benny - Did you know there was a New England branch of Choates? Rufus
Choate is one of the famous ones of that group. I used to have a book
about him, but my brother took it.

"Night overtook us and a shower coming on we were compelled to go to Mr.
CHOATES. And stay all night we were kindly treated and not charged for
our accommodaion. The rain came heavily down upon us and gave us a
little hail.
Msrs. CHOATE and ROYS and lady gave us a full account of the double
dealing and two facted way in which Mr. DILLINGHAM is carring news and
adding to the news as he goes. And they with Mr. STURN proceeded to
denounce Mr. DILLINGHAM as a thief and a liar."
