Hi all - I'm spending January on the Choate line, trying to fill in the
missing descendants of SQUIRE CHOATE b 8 Jul 1786 TN. All of the following
are his descendants I know anything about, and will happily share. I have a
few of the female Choate descendants, too, but the list is already pretty
long. And I promise not to post the whole list again!! Are you related to
one of them? Unless otherwise capitalized, all are CHOAT/CHOATE. I will just
give birth and death and main states for now. Thanks - Maria

Cheryl and the Group,
I thought your reference to Baywood......
<<<<Ran across a Choate while reading Baywood by P. Davis: pg. 11 (and I am
sure there will be more).
"Along with Mr. Johnson, other supporters in the building of the school and
continuing to be active in its support were W.T. Choat, T.L. Vaughan, V.I.G.
Hampton, Stanley Young, J.T. Cox, R. M. Cox, J. M. Rector, and many others"
This book is not indexed. If anyone is looking for a particular Choate, let
me know, and I will try to find it while reading!
Aloha, Cheryl>>>>
......sounded familiar, and I've finally had a moment to look it up. I have a
copy of a piece called 'Baywood' by Paul G. Cox. It was copied from somewhere
(pages 250 and 251) by a relative of mine, Mr. Earl Shaw, in Florida.
If anyone's interested, I have time to type it out and send it to the group.
In this piece, the same sentence that Cheryl quoted is used. Am not sure
whether her piece quotes mine, or the other way around.
I owe Earl a letter, and will ask him about it, if anyone else is interested.
These Choates are my relatives, and I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else
who may be interested.
To all of you, happy holidays, and all the best in the new year.

This is the best Christmas gift I can think of to give this group.
It came from the book "Genealogical Gleanings in England" that I found at the Clayton
Genealogy Library in Houston.
The Alsop Will of 1666
JOSIAS ALSOP, clerk, 12 August 1666, pro: 9 Oct 1666. I desire to be buried
in St. Clement's Eastcheape Church if I die in London or near it. Of my
temporal estate I give two hundred pounds to Mrs. Elizabeth Rosseter, my
sister in New England, or to her children if she be dead. I give to my brother Mr.
Timothy Alsop's children fifty pounds. I give to Mr. Richard Vigures of Law
Litton in Cornwall five pounds, to be bestowed upon a piece of plate and to
be sent to him or to any of his children or grand-children if alive. I give to the
poor of Norton Fitz-warren in Somersetshire twenty pounds, to the poor of St.
Clement's Eastcheape, London, ten pounds, to be distributed by my very good
friends there. I give to Christ's College Library in Cambridge ten pounds to be
sent thither privately. I give to Mr Thomas Waplewicke, merchant tailor, in
Warwick Lane Lon-don, or to his wife, all my clothes, woollen, linen, silk, leather.
And I cornmit to his trust sixty pounds, to be delivered to such poor persons as are
named particularly in a letter which will be brought to him written with mine
own hand. I give to >> Doctor Christopher Shute<< Walton's Hebrew Bible. And I
commit to the said >> Doctor Shute<< and to mine executor Mr. John Prestwood all
my other books and papers whatsoever, to be thus dis-posed of:---first I will that
all my papers or paper books marked with this like sign of the Cross (+) be cast
unto the fire and consumed to ashes without suffering any part of them to be read;
when this is done I will that the rest of my papers and paper books, and all my
other books, be locked up in trunks or boxes and kept for that child of my brother
Timothy Alsop's who shall become a minister. And if neither of his sons become
ministers I will that they be given to Doctor Christopher Shute to do with them
what he pleaseth, upon this condition that he keep to himself the pnnted books or
sell them if he list As for my papers and written books I will that he promise
faithfully to my executor that he will have them all burned at his death. In this
particular I expect and require that faithfulness of him after my death which I have
found in him all my life time. I give to Mr. John Prestwood, merchant, London, fifty
pounds, whom I name and make my sole executor, desiring him to bury me cheaply
and privately under a tomb stone with my name engraven on it. The remainder of
mine estate I give to children born of poor and pious parents that they may be bound
out apprentices, in which I desire that the children of Norton Fitz-warren in Somer-
setshire, if there be any poor ones, may be preferred before any other.
Notes: Joseph Alsopp, aged 14, and Thos. Alsopp, aged 20, embarked for New England
in the spring of 1635, in the Elizabeth and Ann, Roger Cooper master. Mr. Savage sup-
poses them to be brothers. Joseph settled at New Haven and Thomas at Stratford, Ct.
There was also a Timothy Alsop, mariner, at New Haven, 1646. It was believed that
Elizabeth Rossiter was wife of Bray (or Bryan) Rossiter of Windsor and Guilford.
The following is the pedigree of this Alsop family according to "Dugdale's Visitation of
Derbyshire", 1662-3, is re-printed from the Genealogist, edited by Dr. Marshall,V3p63.

Merry Christmas.................Bev Casey
Fellow researchers & cousins,
I want to thank all of you that have written in reply to my posting about
the list. As you know, I lost my hard drive and all the information there
on. I have been dilagently working to reload all the software and
programs. I lost all of my addresses for everyone, several documents,
have gotten new mail server, and updated to Office '97. For my genealogy,
every back up file worked for my CHOATE files except for the file that I am
directly descended from (about 1250) names. Considering what could have
been lost, this is not all that bad. When some programing was loaded by
the technician, he typed the wrong email address and put in the year 1980
so when I sent out mail and anyone replied to it directly, it did not make
it. I apologize for any inconvience any of you had.
Alot of changes are taking place for the good at rootsweb, as soon as all
of them are in place, I will notify the list. I am happy to say that the
number of subscribers to the list has increased tremendously.
I want to wish everyone on the list the happiest and safest of holidays. I
will be monitoring the list if anyone needs me, I will be gone for a few
days over Christmas. I will be taking advantage of school break to get
back in the library and do some more research.
Karen in LA, I need to reach you, please email me as soon as you have time.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this. Please feel free to
contact me at blairrl(a)nwol.net anytime that you want to, either
with questions or just to visit. I am here to help you.
Happy hunting,
Dianna Choate Blair
Hello fellow Choate Researchers -
The email Dianna sent to the net tonight (re: not getting any messages)
got me thinking - my line of Choate's isn't much for 'get togethers' but
we do care about each other. With the Christmas Holiday almost upon us,
why doesn't each of us either send a memory story to the others (via the
list) or tell something exciting or good that's happened to us this past
year?? Let's try to share a little and get acquanted.
I've been blessed with my 5th grandchild this past year (3 girls & 2
boys) - I hope that they (the grandkids) are as cute and cuddly as their
parents were.
My favorite Christmas present was an "Etch-A-Sketch" my oldest daughter
bought me when she was about 3 or 4 years old. She thought I would like
it & I DID! It was loved and played with until she was about 14 - then
it got so old the inside stuff started to come out the knob holes.
How about it - What was your favorite Christmas Gift ?????
