I believe this same picture - without that explanation - is in the "Descendants of Matthias Chitwood" book, p 432. Three young men with fierce expressions on their faces, each with hair pointing to the sides and holding a pistol in one hand and a large knife of some nature in the other? Interesting picture, and I'd like to know what they were up to when it was taken. If it's not that picture, let me know and I will request a copy.
Thanks.
Nancy

This is what it says next to the picture.
At the outbreak of war, brothers Daniel, John, and Pleasant Chitwood enlisted the Bartow County Yankee Killers, which became Company A of the 23d Georgia Infantry. On October 31, 1862, Pleasant Chitwood died of chronic diarrhea in a Richmond Hospital,Daniel and John were captured when their unit was overrun at Catharine Furnace on the second day of the battle at Chancellorsville. Bother were exchanged three weeks later, rejoined the army, and came through the rest of the war unhurt.

Hello you two, :-)
It has been a long time, since much activity on this site.
But, nothing new.
Yes, I have the book too and wondered about the photo. It is pretty
typical, though, I have some others of family that resemble this.
I work on and on, hoping for an epiphany from and in the UK records.
But, have nothing new to add.
I lurk on the county lists of some of the possible places of origins,
thinking that one day, there will be a clue of some sort, to help.
I've been to VA several times in the archives, looking for something in
the surrounding counties.
I just wish the other Chitwood people would stop posting all the stuff
online that isn't true.
It is so bad now, that some of them will never know who the real
ancestor is, if they don't do some actual research of their own and
document it. The factual information is confusing enough, without all
the 'mythology' that is put out there..<sigh>
Good to hear that you are o.k. and still working.. Thanks for all you
have done. I appreciate it..

Is there any way for you to know which Pleasant, which John, and which Daniel CHITWOOD you have found? Those are names that were repeated uncounted numbers of time in various branches of the CHITWOOD family, but I have two of those names in my family who were involved in the Civil War. Perhaps if you even know what state they lived in, it could help.
Thanks.
Nancy
