I have found that Henry was married 2 times his second wife was Sarah Elizabeth Southern which is the mother of my grandfather Benjamin Cleveland Fulks, I googled Henry's name and it came up on the Choctaw Nation Brides surnames list. So I believe that Sarah was Choctaw Indian I have searched the rolls a little but have not had time to look they are not in alphabetical order, Lilly her sister I believe married my Henry's son from his first marriage about 3 month's after is also on the same list. I hope this helps. If there is anymore information you can help me with email me at tenasnails(a)yahoo.com

Nancy and Judith,
Thank you for sharing your research with all of us on the list.
I always stop and check as the names are the same in my Indiana Chitwood line.
I would be happy to share Chitwood information what I have. My line is in "Descendants ... pages 94-109, 208-210, & 217. There are some things that should be corrected: for example, the spelling of my parents names and the first name of my grandfather. My family has lived on the same farm in Indiana since 1812. A family cemetery, Slippery Point, is near-by. So records are easier to come by.

Jufdith
Thanks so much for this!! I will have to get back to it once I return in a
couple of days and give it a good studying over, but I am hoping that you
are correct that it might be the first one. That James was my
gg-grandfather - father of my g-grandfather, Rev Joel C CHITWOOD. I know
that he was a Civil War soldier, but have not been able to find a set of
records that *fer sher* were his.
And don't get me started on repetitive names! I am SOOOO grateful that my
grandmother used Oberhugh, Lacey, Coney - even Georgia, Geneva, Donald,
Ruth, Gloria, and Roger were not common names in the CHITWOOD family! Thank
you, Charity! I will gratefully forgive you for John and William.
I see that you have some information there that I didn't have yet, and I
have some that you haven't included. So.... I'll get back with you once I
have a chance to compare notes side by side.
The James who was your 4xggrandfather *was* in the Revolutionary War, and I
will share what I have on him, too. He was the one who married Martha
WHITE, and for whom a nice memorial sign has been placed in the CHITWOOD
Cemetery in Winfield TN. Probably you have seen that sign or at least a
picture of it on FindAGrave http://www.findagrave.com
Again, thanks, and I will do some studying and see what I can verify and
share. Got my fingers crossed on the first James.

For some time I have looked at a picture of a Civil War gravestone marker that's located in the CHITWOOD Cemetery, Winfield, Scott County, Tennessee. And wondered whose it was.
It is a military stone, with no matching civil stone, and is not standing next to a spouse's stone, so no clues there. It has no dates, so that's no help, either.
It says:
Jas [James] CHITWOOD
Co A E Tenn
Nat'l Guard
You can see it posted at Find a Grave http://www.findagrave.com/http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Chitwood&GSfn=Jas&G...Footnote.com has lots of military records, but I did not find the right one there. I don't have a subscription to Ancestry.com...
Who knows which James CHITWOOD this was who fought in the Civil War? Any suggestions? I would love to have this puzzle solved.
Thanks.

I have decided that the correct parents for Ruth L Fergerson married to A C Chitwood were Cornelius A Fergerson and Amanda R. Lathan. I have found the following sources:
1) 1900 US census already noted in previous post
2) California death index record of Ruth Lee Chitwood that gives her father's names as Furguson (misspelled) and mother as Rachel
3) California death index record of Amanda R. Fergerson giving father's name as Lathan
4) 1910 Cenus record (Home in Dist 4, Stringtown, Atoka, Oklahoma) for Cornelius A and Amanda R Fergerson and family including Ruthy L. Fergerson that is enumerated by Ruth's future father-in-law A.M. Chitwood.

Not sure which record is correct. Saved both as it was late and was having a difficult time keeping track of the information. I have since pulled the source listing Thomas and Beulah.

I have found two different trees giving two different sets of parents and siblings for Ruth Lee Fergerson wife of Aaron Carl Chitwood and the mother of A.C. Chitwood. I am trying to figure out which is correct.
The other tree notes the 1900 Census as source. Source lists the following family:
Home in 1900 was District 72, Justice Precinct 7, Panola, Texas
enumerated on June 2-4, 1900
C.A. Fergerson, head, born Dec 1848, age 51, married 21 years, born in Texas, father born in N. Carolina, mother born in Mississippi, farmer
Amanda R. Fergerson, wife, born Nov 1856, age 43, married 21 years, mother of 11 children with 10 living in 1900, born in Louisiana, both parents born in Louisiana
Oscar W. son born in June 1885
Louis son Mar 1888
Kattie daughter Mar 1890
Hilton Daws son Apr 1892
Ruth daughter Feb 1894 born in Texas
Raburn son Jun 1895
Sweetie daughter Aug 1898
Your source is given as the 1910 Census
showing the following family:
Home in 1910: Justice Precinct 7, Matagorda, Texas
Thomas Fergerson 42
Beulah Fergerson 39
Aubry Fergerson 20
Edna Fergerson 19
Ruth Fergerson 17
Bernie Fergerson 18
Nancy Fergerson 12
Thomas Fergerson Jr. 9
Friederick Fergerson 7
Albert Fergerson 4
Obviously there are two different Ruth Fergerson's born in about the same place at about the same time. Do you have additional information to support that Ruth's parents were Thomas and Beulah Fergerson or that they were C. A. and Amanda R Fergerson?

According to Ruth Fergerson Chitwood's death record her mother's name was Rachel. Is this what the R stood for? Also there is a California death record that could be Ruth's:
Name: Amanda Fergerson
[Amanda Lathan]
Social Security #: 0
Sex: FEMALE
Birth Date: 25 Nov 1856
Birthplace: Louisiana
Death Date: 18 Dec 1941
Death Place: Fresno
Father's Surname: Lathan
Death records are often unreliable for names of parents though. What do you think?
