Apologies, I found the John Chetwood/Ellenor Bushop marriage record.

Hello,
I am new to the list. My interest in the CHITWOOD surname is as follows:
Matthias Chetwood... John (Sr)... William... Randolph... Henry Clay... Joel (Joseph) Howard... Randolph (my grandfather).
I'm happy to share any information I have but after browsing through the mailing list archives I don't think I can really add anything. There is some wonderful information in the mailing list archives!
I was hoping someone might be able to clarify something for me. One theory (among a number) is that their could be a connection between Matthias Chetwood (ca 1681) and __?__ Chetwood and Ellenor Bushop. I recognize this is a theory only. Regardless of whether there is a connection to Matthias, I am interested in learning more about this couple. I have seen posted in some places that Ellenor married a "Thomas" and in other places a "John" - although the location and date appear to consistently be Shropshire 1679. I can't find any records for Ellenor's marriage (online). Can anyone point me to a source? I often see her DOB listed as 1632, but on ancestry I find a baptism for her name in 1642 (possible mis-transcription or baptized at age 10?). If the date of her marriage turns out to be accurate, then she was married circa either 37 or 47 years old, depending on the correct date of birth. I seem to be struggling with this!
On a slightly different topic, in December I posted to the Chitwood Message Board a question regarding Chitwood DNA. Sue kindly responded on list and pointed out that a truly helpful DNA comparison would be one between a Matthias descendant and a CHITWOOD in the UK. Fingers crossed! I was also wondering whether anyone has identified themselves as descendants of those VA Chitwoods who were present before Matthias - descendants of Chitwoods I've seen discussed such as William (transported to VA ca 1636), John (transported to VA ca 1651) and Thomas (in VA by 1653).
Sincerely,
Shelley
Hello Dortha,
This is my ancestor but, my problem is, that I have never seen any
documentation for Alice/Alce's surname.. He was hanged in Rutherford Co.
near Sunshine, right after the Battle of Kings Mt. I have photos of the
area where the old hanging tree was. I have been there and talked to the
people who now own the property that the Chitwoods owned and had
confiscated. I can't find any Carpenters in Cumberland Co. (where James
and Alce probably married ?) And, there is a Samuel Carpenter in
Rutherford Co. in the
James Jr. (my ancestor) was in Habersham Co. Co. GA by 1830 and he
died in Union Co. GA in 1840.
I believe James Sr. had 9 children. One a daughter Frances Ann has been
proved by a cousin. She b. abt 1766 and married a Hayes, they moved to IN.
Thanks,
Sue

Dortha,
I would like to correspond with you and others.
I descend through the son, Amos who moved to Indiana and I
have a lot of information on that line. Amos Chitwood
married a lot of folks in the Indiana Territory as a deacon
and circuit rider. His landgrant in IN was signed by
President Madison in 1814. (this is from memory and subject
to correction.)
While researching my husband's line in TN I came across
some information on
On Pleasant Chitwood's activites in GA.

Sue,
I have a Capt James Chitwood, with wife, Alice Carpenter.
That is all the info I have on her. Would this be the right
connection? I show they had eight children: James, Jr,
Moses, Shadrack, Joshua, Joseph, Amos, Pleasant, Richard.
If you think this is the correct family, I'll be glad to
send the complete info that I have.

Our son found the following - wonder which Roger she was referring to???
By the way, my research has led me to a run-in with one of our ancestors. From Garthine Walker's Crime, Gender and Social Order in Early Modern England, page 172:
"...A similar vision of criminal culture is indicated by the stories that women and men told when they were caught red-handed with stolen goods. Sometimes these tales were idiosyncratic. Jane Davis conceded that linens missing from the chamber in which she had slept had indeed fallen 'forth of her bosom' the next morning; her explanation was that Roger Chetwood must have 'put [them] into my bosom while I was asleep'!..."
Those Chitwoods, always getting into trouble!
I have info on this Captain James Carpenter. He was hung after becoming a
tory prisoner at Kings Mountain in 1780. He was the son of Matthias
Chitwood and Mary Key. I have nothing on Alice Carpenter, however.
