Does anyone know if there are any Chitwoods who have participated in one of the DNA studies? It would be interesting to do so, as there are living male Chetwode's in England. A DNA study might shed some light on the possible relationship between Matthias Chitwood and Thomas Chitwood as well...and tie everyone into the family in England with the interesting history!

This is curious! My great great grandfather William C. Chitwood was in Company "D", 4th Confederate Infantry--1st Regiment Alabama, Tennessee & Mississippi Infantry out of Geneva, Coffee County (later Geneva County), Alabama. He was captured at Island #10 in Tennessee and died in a prisoner of war camp up north. I found a monument with his name on it at Camp Douglas in Illinois. And a tombstone at camp Randall in Wisconsin. I believe he actually died at Camp Randall. But how did his name end up on a monument at Camp Douglas. From what I can tell he is the only William C. Chitwood in company "D" Any thoughts?
Chris Lynch
