Hello.
Does anybody know what happened to William Chitwood 163-611 Son of Joel and Sarah Reed Born in 1837..Last mention is in 1860 Census...Still living at home...Then he dissapears...Did he fight and die in the Cival War? Does anybody know where he is buried?
Does anybody know anything about Martha, Emily, and Nancy children of Joel and Sarah?
Last...does anybody have any pics of Granville C Chitwood, or his descendents, or any Chitwood's/Laxton's Living or Lived, in the Oneida, Winfield, and Jellico Tennessee Area.
Thank You
I am back, now, from England. Left my computer with a computer-nerd friend
for some updating while I was gone - and now have lost all of the emails
that we exchanged back a few months ago. Did print out a lot (most?) of
them and the ones posted on-List ARE in the CHITWOOD List archives - but
can't print them out from there until he does some more tweaking on the
printing end of my computer while I'm in Mexico... I lost my entire address
book, too...
Anyway, I can't say that I picked up any more definitive information on
Matthias or his parentage while I was in London. Certainly wasn't for not
trying, however!! Lynda Burke has some ideas that I hadn't considered or
explored previously, but we were not able to connect in the tight space
between her return from Australia and my way between the Lake District and
London to fly out home. Maybe next time.
However, since I did spend a week with a group of other genealogists, I did
throw out the situation for the group to ponder - and got some more ideas.
One asked me just what we had documented regarding Matthias, himself, on
*this* side of the Pond (since there seems to be a lack of accessible
documentation over there) and suggested that I/we join the List for Virginia
and post some queries there. I know that some of you have done some
extensive searching through records in Virginia and elsewhere, but there
still may be some uncovering to do. Certainly there should be on Matthias!
I think that there are some CHETWODE/CHITWOOD records at the University of
Virginia (or State of Virginia?) Library, too, and possibly one or two of
you are close enough to them to do some sleuthing?
Lynda had some other suggestions quite different to what we all had assumed
regarding Matthias' parents, and I'll suggest that she share them with you.
I have printed out her emails, but it would be best to hear from her
directly. Lynda?
Meanwhile, I'll keep searching. I DID find information on another branch of
my family and was given a tour of the property that they owned back in the
mid-1700s, so the trip certainly wasn't a total loss! Just not productive
on the CHETWODE side. *sigh*
