Mary,
From DESCENDANTS OF MATTHIAS CHITWOOD, by I.O. Chitwood
Lazarus was the second child of James Chitwood and Martha White, daughter of
Thomas White. James was born 21 June, 1751, Powhatten, Co., VA, died 1839
Campbell - now Scott - county, TN.
He was the third child of Richard and Winney Chitwood. Richard was the sixth
child of Matthias and Mary Key, born ca 1722 in Virginia. Died Rutherford
county, NC, 1785
First record I found for Lazarus if 1799 in Knox, county, TN. In 1823 he was
in Campbell county, but may not have moved as part of Knox became Campbell.
By 1830 he was in McMinn county TN.
The next record I found was the 1850 census for DeSoto, co. , MS: Lazarus &
Mary Chitwood, with grandsons, James C. age 18, born in TN,John age 9 , b.
AL, and Francis M. age 7, b. AL. These are children of Lazarus' son Nelson
and his unknown first wife. In the bordering county (and they could by right
next to each other) is Nelson's 2nd wife, Sarah Pinkerton, 2 March, 1843 in
Dekalb, co, AL.with children: John G., age 6, born MS and Mary J. age 4, b.
MS.
In Chickasaw, County, MS Nelson is on an 1848 land roll.
On the 1860 Chickasaw census in the household of Pleasant S. Parker, the
oldest child of John B. and Moriah Chitwood Parker, is Frank Chitwood, age
17, born in AL. Marion Chitwood joined the 17th MS Inf. and was killed at
Chickamauga, GA in 1863.
I believe my 2nd great grandmother, Moriah is the daughter of Lazarus and
the sister to Nelson, but I have no proof.
I have seen queried of others researching this line that say Lazarus was
headed for TX. Apparently
John (married Rebecca Gardner) and James C (married Sarah Mangum) and
stepmother with John Green (married Rebecca Owens and Margaret Griffin)
died 1908, in TX and Mary (married 1868, TX; Miller Thompson) went on to
TX. Sarah married William Pollock Acker June 4, 1857 and had six children.
I had hoped finding Moriah's parents - Chitwood being less common than
Parker - would lead me to the parents of her husband John B., but I wound up
with another loose end. I keep hoping that somewhere a descend of the
grandson's of Lazarus that went to TX there might turn up a Bible or
something more of him and son, Nelson.
This is what I received form a queried to Melissa, who has the web page that
was mentioned.
<That info came from a book on the Houser and <Chitwood families. Wish I
could
<help you out, but the only info I have is what's on <my site.

Mary--there is an excellent genealogy of the family still available for purchase. I do not have the book but do have the name/address/price of the Chitwood who does. He would prefer his information not be published on the internet. Please contact me at: jknight(a)boone.net if you would want further info.
In addition, much [if not all] of the book is available online at:

This is a the homepage of Melissa Banks, a Chitwood descendant.

Hi, I'm trying to find info on a Lazarus Chitwood son of James. My husband is in the line of Lazarus and his son John. Can you help? Thanks, Mary Chitwood
thank you Carolyn Fairall for the Chitwood info, I will check this out. All I had found was in 1850,Indiana, Marion co. wa. Tws( wash.,warren., wayne tws's.?) pg.623 David Ingram 29..ky..Elizabeth 28..ky, James 8 ... .ky William 3..Ind., Margaret 10/12 ind.,.. Now I found a Sarah Chitwood in 1960 Kansas, co. Bourbon, o.p. Bamesville.. living with David Ingraham and Elizabeth. I have heard from a couple wonderful people who has shared info on their Chitwood families, would any of you have something on the Ingram side? I need info on all. Thanks again for such fast returns...Susie
Here are two more places to look for them. In 1860, David & Elizabeth Ingrahm (both age 42) lived in Bourbon Co, KS (p. 100). Elizabeth's mother, Sarah Chitwood (b 1798 TN) was included in their househould. In 1870, Elizabeth's mother lived with her younger brother, John Charles Chitwood in Washington Co, AR, Illinois Twp (p. 143a line 31).
