Ok, I think I found the right Lindsey Chitwood family, page 364 of Descendants of
Matthias Chitwood - if you don't have the book you might want to get it - costs
$45 incl s&h - it is a wonderful book on the Chitwood family - tons of
information and pictures - incl. info on Capt. James Chitwood who was hanged
during the Rev. War - he was a Tory. Bill's line comes down from his nephew,
James (one of the first settlers of TN) who fought on the Rebel side.
Anyway, Lindsey m. Ruth Stringfield and they had Cruden; Leonard; Luther and
Mountaville - those are just the ones listed in the book. This Lindsey was the
sixth child of James G. Chitwood and Rebecca Reed and he was b. in TN Feb 1877.
Information on their children was from the 1900 TN Scott Co. census. Mountaville
was b. 1911 and died 1976 KY and m. Virginia. James G. was the second child of
Joel and Elizabeth (Davis) Chitwood and his brother was Lindsey B. Chitwood who
married Amelda and is Bill's line. Joel ws the first child of William Chitwood
and Sarah Reed and William was the son of James Chitwood (I have his pension
papers online at my site). From James you go back to Richard & Winny (Randolph?)
and then to Matthias & Mary (Key) Chitwood of VA. Mary Key's brother goes down to
Francis Scott Key.
Anyway, if you are interested in the book hopefully there are still copies:

This is the side of the family I know almost nothing about.
My mother says that Lindsey Chitwood, Gilbert's father was blind. She thinks
that he had an uncle named Mount and one named Luther but she's not sure.
Gilbert married Elizabeth Jane Stanley and they lived on the farm in Oneida.
He had six children with Elizabeth and died around 1948 from a brain tumor.
That's all I know. Any ideas?

Hi,
I don't know if we are related or not. But here's my information. My
father's mother married a man named Gilbert Chitwood. Her name was Elizabeth
Jane Stanley. Gilbert's father was Lindsey or Lindsay Chitwood and his
mother's name was Amanda or Amelda or something like that.
Gilbert died in 1948 and eventually Elizabeth remarried Walter Chitwood who I
think was a cousin of Gilberts. I hate to bother you but if you can shed
some light on this for me, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks
Maria Campbell
