Next Aug. 12, 2000 will be the 150th Anniversary of the Chitwood Family
in the state of Wisconsin. I am looking for any pictures that people
have to add to the Chitwood Book I have. If you have any scanned

Can somebody fill in the families of Joshua Chitwood. My great grandmother
was Elizabeth Chitwood who married George Washington Kirkland, but I have
nothing else on her brothers & sisters except for the following. Please send

Fae Gwin, age 83, of Billings, died Sunday, December 6, 1998, at her home.
She was born June 23, 1915, in Stevens County, Minnesota, the daughter of
George and Georgia (Greene) Chitwood. She was raised in the midwestern states.
Fae moved to the Miles City area in 1930. She married Clifford S. Gwin in
October 1933 and they lived in the Miles City area. She lived in various
areas moving to Billings in 1964. Fae was employed at the Northern Hotel for
many years and later worked with AARP. After retirement, she lived in the
Bull Mountains until returning to Billings in 1996.
She loved animals and enjoyed gardening, reading and working crossword
puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Paddy (Marianne) Gwin and Robert (Emelia) Gwin,
both of Billings; three daughters, Sherrie Mills of Billings, Joleen Gwin of
Pueblo, Colorado, and Bertha (Rex) Bovee of Columbus, Montana; two brothers,
Wesley Sutton of Fremont, California, and John Sutton of Denver, Colorado; 18
grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
A gathering for family and friends will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, December 11,
at the home of Paddy Gwin.
Smith's West Chapel was in charge of cremation.
Elizabeth Phillips

Word reached here Thursday of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, former
Roy matron. She was the mother of Lynn Phillips of Roy and also four other
sons, Hardee of Waltham, MT, Ray of Idaho, Leon of Kalispell and George of
Missoula.
Mrs. Phillips had made her home on the river northeast of Roy about 40 years
ago. Later she lived in Zortman, Lewistown and Great Falls. Due to her
advanced age, she has been in poor health for the past two years.
Elizabeth was born 7-26-1874, daughter of George Washington Kirkland and
Elizabeth (Chitwood) Kirkland. She married Charles Joseph Phillips on
December 24, 1893 in Oklahoma. She had 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Richard Chitwood

ABSAROKEE - Richard Chitwood passed away Saturday morning at the Stillwater
Community Hospital in Columbus. Richard "Dick" was born April 5, 1925, in
Bellingham, Washingston, the youngest child of Walter and Josephine Chitwood.
His parents moved their family back to Absarokee in 1929. Both parents had
homesteaded in this area before they married.
Graduating from Absarokee High School in 1943, Dick enlisted during World War
II in the Air Corps, serving as a pilot and an air traffic controller, until
his discharge in 1946. He then attended the Butte School of mines and later
worked as a core driller at Yellowtail Dam and in Eastern Washington. While
drilling in Washington, Dick met the Girl Of His Dreams, Willa Skok, and they
were married April 11, 1953. Willa and Dick lived in Butte where Dick was a
miner and three sons were born to them. In 1957 the family came to Absarokee
to help during the illness of his sister-in-law Blythe Chitwood. Richard
later attended Eastern Montana College in Billings and taught school at
Hysham and Redmond, Oregon Willa died in 1968, leaving Dick to raise and
educate their three boys.
Because of many recurring illnesses, Dick returned to Absarokee in 1990 where
he remodeled a small house, painted landscape pictures, and enjoyed
relatives, friends and frequented the Hamburger Hut.
He is survived by three sons, Greg (Joy) of Fallon, Nevada; Randy (Lorilyn)
of Minden, Nevada; Tony (Karen) of San Luis Obisbo, California; six
grandchildren; and one sister, June Trees of Fishtail.
Preceding Dick in death were his wife, Willa, his parents, two sisters, Beth
Chitwood and Jean Clifford, and a brother, Walter "Bud" Chitwood.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, February
23, at 10 a.m. in the Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus with a reception
following at the Little Stone Church in Columbus.
Harry R. Chitwood
SIDNEY - Harry R. Chitwood, 65, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the Sidney
Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Fulkerson
Memorial Chapel with interment in the Richland Memorial Park.
