Did you ever find out this information? We have the pistol he carried in the Civil War. My husband is descended from him through his sons, James Willis (adopted) and Amos Brunson Chittenden.

I am also descended from William and Mary (dunster) Chittenden through Rachel (born 1856)who lived her entire life in NSW (including having 16 children) except for last years (1904-8)where she was in USA and Canada. Mary's youngest son, Hyrum, (1865-1946) went to US with her. Also some daughters but not all.
Intrigued about "the daughter that was taken". Have seen other references and contradictions. Would love to see some details if you can help.
Ted
