I really am interested in who the Sam Baker is. I am researching A Baker
family whose wife was the sister of William Moore Criswell. William Moore
Criswell was the father of John Carson C Criswell and Dorothy Criswell.
Dorothy Criswell married Josuha Baker - their son William Bierman Baker lived
in Mart, Texas - but Josuha and Dorothy returned to MS and are buried in
Lafayette County, MS. Lena
The following was taken from the
1880 Census of Falls Co., TX. Does
anyone reconize any one of these?

Elmer,
I show James Thomas Chisum b. Oct 16 1754 in Ameliz Co., VA md. to Mary
Howard in 1780 in Union Co., SC.
James's parents were James Chisum b. abt 1734, son of John and Ellender
Gillington Chisum. His wife was Barbara/Barbery Estes., b. 1732. I have
not date of marriage for James and Barbara, however it was prior to the
birth of their son James T. Chisum on Oct 16 1754.
Hope this will help. I have no parents for Barbara. Had a note that she
may have been a daughter of a neighbor, Thomas Estes of Spotsylvania Co..

John W. Chisholm
Amarillo
John W. Chisholm, 86, formerly of Amarillo and Pampa, died Wednesday, Jan.
22, 2003, in Denver.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Episcopal
Church with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector, officiating. Burial will be in
Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Chisholm, one of the Texas Panhandle's last true gentlemen, was born May
17, 1916, in Electra. He had moved to Denver in 1999 after a long and
rewarding career in the oil and gas industry. At the age of 26, Mr. Chisholm
served his country during World War II, where he served as a second
lieutenant in the Armored Field Artillery Division in the European Theater,
earning both the Bronze and Silver Stars.
His distinguished career began when he was just 16 years old as a roustabout
in the oil fields of Electra. After the war, in 1946 he began working with
the Texas Company (better known as Texaco) as an oil scout. Mr. Chisholm was
instrumental in developing the process of tracking leases and oil rights, a
process that remains today.
He then joined Cabot Carbon Corp. in 1948 as a landman. In 1950, he became
the land department manager for Cabot Corp. Rising up the ranks at Cabot
from landman and assistant to the manager of exploration and production, in
1967, Mr. Chisholm moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he was vice
president and general manager of Cabot Petroleum Limited.
Upon his return from Canada, Mr. Chisholm remained general manager of Cabot
Petroleum Limited as well as director of land and contracts, oil and gas
division and the director of international department, oil and gas division
for the Cabot Corp.
In 1975, he moved from Pampa to Amarillo where he formed John W. Chisholm
and Co., a petroleum consulting firm. A year later, he joined Earl T. Smith
and Associates as senior vice president of exploration and production and
maintained his consulting business. While with Earl T. Smith and Associates,
he served as director for H.T.S. Enterprises, Century Aircraft Corp., and
Earl T. Smith and Associates.
His resume also included the directorships of Cabot Petroleum Limited,
Petroleum Consultants (Nigeria) Ltd., and the Community Hotel Co. of Pampa.
Mr. Chisholm was a former president and director of Panhandle Royalty Owners
Association and the Pampa Club. He was also former vice president of
Independent Petroleum Association of America.
His affiliations included American Association of Petroleum Landmen,
Independent Petroleum Association of America, Panhandle Association of
Petroleum Landmen, Panhandle Natural Gas Society, Texas Mid-Continent Oil
and Gas Association and Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners.
Still active in the oil and gas industry until his death, Mr. Chisholm will
be missed and remembered by many as one of the last true gentlemen of this
era. A former member of Pampa Country Club, Pampa Club, Amarillo Club and
Amarillo Country Club, Mr. Chisholm enjoyed many memories with his lifelong
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann; two children, Susan Hope and
husband, Tom, and Robert Coleman, all of Denver; a daughter-in-law, Marti
Coleman; a sister, Helen Halstead; a brother, Earl Chisholm; four
grandchildren, John David Hope, Jennifer Hope Bennett and husband, Kyle,
Sydney Coleman and Alex Coleman; two great-grandchildren, Payton Bennett and
Claudia Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity and responses be
mailed to 300 Hudson St., Suite 110, Denver, CO 80220; or St. Andrew's
Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79102.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCartt, 1615 Bryan
Place, No. 1, in Amarillo.
