Hi Dick,
I am also glad to be working and sharing information with you. I started
researching the Chisholm name after my mother's death. I wanted to leave
something for my children once I passed on. and it is so funny because as
long as she was living, I never asked her about anyone except her mother and
father.
My Mom has one sister living out of seven siblings and she is almost eighty
this year, she doesn't know a thing:) I started with her parents names on the
census and worked my self backwards to 1870 . I lucked up and found my great
grandfather with his father Ned, who was the slave.
It 's a gentleman in Alachua who has put ancient records online. He
emailed me and told me that he had something interesting for me. He sent me a
copy of the deed where Ned, Dudley and William Chisholm brought 681 acres of
land for 35,000 lbs of Sea Island cotton, that also identified his relatives.
Someone told me online about Mr. Chism's book, I wrote him and the rest is
history. There are still many things that I would like to know, John is not
sure how the slaves got to Florida. Have you seen any wills for Susanna and
Martha Chisholme, I've just sent for Louise Chowder's papers on the Chisholms
of Chester, South Carolina. I am hoping that they will be here by next week.
I'll copy them and email them to you. I am helping my niece with some work, I
will talk with you soon.
Antoinette
Hi Dick,
I am glad that you wrote me, I have the book that John D. wrote on your
family, he has really been a great help to me finding out who owned my
family. I would love for us to correspond maybe you can share some of your
history with me and I with you. I have really been having a hard time trying
to find out who took some of Suprey's slaves to Florida. John seems to think
that it was either of Suprey's sons Adam or Captain David. There are no white
Chisholms listed on the 1870 or 60 census for Alachua County Florida, there
is a Hugh (you have a Hugh in your line) listed in Escambia County. If you
can think of anything let me know. thanks a million for contacting me. I will
be looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Antoinette
Dear List:
I am hoping that someone belonging to this family may see this message and
respond, this family has been very elusive and I have been beating my head
against a hard wall for a long time.
My family originated in Virginia, My great great grandmother was a slave by
the name of Bridget and she was owned by David Chisholme, Jr., in 1809 David
and his slaves moved to Chester, South Carolina, my great great grandfather
Ned Chisholm was born in South Carolina in 1814, he was listed on the estate
sale of Suprey Chisholme in 1834 and he was found again in 1855 in Alachua
County, Florida, In 1867 they bought land in Newnans Lake, which is the rural
area of Gainesville.
Ned is listed on the 1870 census with wife Julia, and his children:
Alexander, Taylor, Daniel (grandson) Thomas (my great grandfather) Henry F.,
John W.. If this sounds familiar please email me. I have more information to
share.
I am looking forward to hearing from all Chisholms who have their roots
from Chester, South Carolina and Gainesville, Florida.
thank you,
Antoinette Russell

Hello List,
I am still out here researching my African American Chisholms, my Chisholms
are originally from the Chester, South Carolina area. They were once owned by
David, Thomas and then to Suprey Chisholm.
In 1814 my great great grandfather Edward Ned Chisholm was born
He had a sister by the name of Hanna and two brothers: Dudley and William. I
have a list of slaves dated February 5, 1834, which my relatives were on.
In 1855 Ned's son Thomas (my great grandfather was born) they were still
slaves but they were now located in Gainesville, Florida
1869 William and Ned and Dudley brought 681 acres of land. The paid for the
land with 35,000 lbs of sea Island cotton.
In 1870 there were at least fourteen families from South Carolina living on
the Chisholm estate, the area that they resided in was called Newnans Lake. I
don't know how many were related but I believe they all work the land
together. Alfred and Ambrose Chisholme were living in the Jacksonville,
Florida area.and Butler Chisholm and his family were living in Putnam County.
If any one has any information on this family I sure would appreciate the
help. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Antoinette
