Hi,
My name is Carol Casion. It is pronounced (Kaysawn). The original spelling according to my father was Caison. His name was Archie John Caison. He was born Nov. 19, 1914. When he joined the army they made a mistake and spelled it with the "s" and the "i" reversed. It was kept that way but the pronounciation stayed the same. I hope I've been of some help. I'm also looking for relatives. My father started his family late. (when he was 41.) I have no living blood relatives other than brothers and sisters. He was born in Cornelia, GA and raised in South Carolina. His grandmother had been a slave.
Thanks

The S250-L(a)rootsweb.com mail list is looking at variations of the Sisson/Sissom/ Scism/ Chism Groups to see if and where the names have split.
This is a list of SOUNDEX names that SOUND similar. This is not an indication that these are all related to one another, BUT the name you are looking for may have been misinterpreted as one of these and written that way.
SOME of these names are known to have switched from one version to a different spelling. REGIONAL variations in pronunciation contributes to many of these changes, as well as illiteracy, and "deliberate" changes instituted by a branch of a family.
NOT all soundex variations are listed,
What I want to do is find if any of you have "hit these variations," and where and how they changed.
In that manner we can visualize movements, changes and hopefully have a better idea of which we are each interested in.

Hello, I have a deed that was made in 1835, Warren county, Kentucky, it distinctly named 8 of John and Elleanor Chisums children, and 11 grandchildren of the Estes family.
Elisha Chisum was one of them.
Elisha Chisum married Elizabeth Walden in 1787, Lincoln county, Kentucky, then in Grainger county, Tn. 1799 on the tax list there was Elisha and Elisha Jr. I don't know if they have him confused with his brother Elijah who married Lucy Clairborne?
But I also find a Winnie Chism listed as a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church from 1803 to 1805, she was dismissed by letter. But his Brother Elijah remained a member along with his wife Lucy.
I am trying to find out if Elisha was married twice. I loose them from 1805 to 1820, where I pick this family up on 1820 Lawrence county, Ark. which was once a part of Missouri.
I find Elisha Chism 1820, Lawrence county, Census, then in 1827, he died leaving a will naming his wife as Wenny, and mentioned a son named Washington Childers,
Wenny migrated to Independence along with a Benjamin Chism, the later moved to Izard county.
Wenny was mentioned in the Pioneers and Makers as being Mrs. Winniefred Chisolm and being over the age of 70.
Benjamin Chism was born about 1796 or 1798, he married a Polly we have been told she was a Walker.
Daughter of John Adam Walker and Elizabeth Hood, possible siblings of Benjamin
was Elleanor Nellie Chisum who married John Adam Walker Jr.
Elizabeth Chisum who married a Gray.
George Washington Chism who married a Burgess, Lankford and Jane Knighton, two known children of Jane and George Chisum, Christopher Green and Elisha.
Elisha Chism JR.
Simon.
I am hopeing someone may know of this family and where they were from 1850 to 1820?
Thanks Vickie
