Trying to find parents/siblings of Franklin Chism, born November 7, 1807, possibly in Augusta County, Virginia. He made two trips to Ohio with an un-named brother prior to settling in Fairfield County, Ohio in 1835. In 1838, he married Elizabeth Geiger. They raised their children in Fairfield County, lived there most of their lives until going to Licking County, Ohio where they lived with a son, Meredith Darlington Brock Chism.
On Franklin & Elizabeth's marriage record the surname is spelled Chism. However, on his death certificate, the spelling Chisum is used. Either spelling could have been a phoenetic spelling used by the Judge, Doctor, etc. All of the children are found using the Chism spelling, and all tombstones use the Chism spelling. A son, David Eli signed the death certificate (on which the Chisum spelling is used) as David E. Chism.
Children of Franklin and Elizabeth are:
Mary - no information
David Eli - b. March 11, 1840
Cecilia (also found as Selina) Elizabeth - b. 1843
Meredith Darlington Brock - b. July 1846
Franklin Harbert - b. September, 1848
George Manville - b. 1850
James A.- 1855
There is a possibility of two other children, but we have been unable to confirm this.
Does anyone connect to this family?
Thank you.

I have on James Chism brother of John, both served in the war of 1812, James
is about 17-18 yrs old both born in South Carolina, I will keep checking.
Antoinette
Hi Antoinette. Our James Chism could possibly have a middle name of Langdon
but that's not at all certain. He was 23 when he married in Kentucky Nov
1810. He told the census takers he was born in Virginia on several
occasions. He was a veteran of the war of 1812. Everything else we have on
him is just his family after he came here. This one's a double brick wall.

Hi Carolyn,
In this book it is thirty-five relatives with the name of James, If you
could be more specific about who you want looked up, give me some names and
area. Also is Monroe County, Archness familiar to you? A lot of Chisms from
the same family there.
Antoinette
.Hi Antoinette. I don't know about Adam the Jacobite but it's not too far
fetched. My Chism's were originally Chisholms. There are stories that they
owned a bit plantation in Virginia. But that is just a story. Of the ones I
know they didn't have a pot or a window. <]:-).There is another set of
Chisms located in Western Kentucky and they are the James Chism of Virginia
Chapter. We are in Central Ky. and have not yet made a connection. I would
love to have your information and maybe I can help make a connection. I have
records on a lot of the Chisms in this area and in Western Kentuck y. You
also might get in touch with vnichols(a)hit.net. She is the computer person
for the James Chism Chapter and I think she has gathered all the record that
are possible. She came to my house and got mine. I have some records on the
family of Richard and Anne Chisholm of Botetort County Virginia. The bad
part of it is all the Chisholm families had the same first names. If I can
help let me know. Carolyn

Antoinette I wish I could help you but our Chism's are centered in Kentucky
and who knows where before that, other than the original Chism said he was
born in Virginia. The Chism's are very elusive in the best of circumstances.
Don't give up.Carolyn

Hello,
I am searching for information on Ned, Dudley, William Chisholm all were
owned by David Chisholme, then passed on to his brother Thomas and then to
their cousin Suprey Chisholme, My relatives were listed on the 1834 estate
sale of Suprey Chisholme.Since they were kept in the family, I was hoping
that maybe some of the descendants might have slave information. I found them
listed on the 1870 census for Gainesville, Florida. I saw listed on the Persi
a family bible for Thomas Chisholm, I tried to order the information that I
had saw on ancestry.com but the library couldn't find the information. If
anyone could help me with information I would appreciate it. By the way I did
forget to mention that they were from Chester, South Carolina. thank you
in advance.

Hi,
I am African American Chisholm/Chisum/Chism in search of information on this
family in Gainesville, Florida. My family was owned by the Chisholmes of
Chester, South Carolina. I am looking for family history and also living
relatives. My grand father was Ned Chisholm who owned 681 acres of land in
Newnan Lake area. If any one is familiar with this family I would appreciate
any help that I could get. thank you in advance.
Antoinette
Thanks for answering, Joan, I am afraid that that was the extent of my
information on the Pruitt family. These boys may have lived in Frederick,
OK. The pictures have the postcard backs. They are addressed to Lena
Griffin of Duke, OK. Lena was my grandmother. She married George Lee
Collier whose mother was a Chisum. These are wonderful, studio-type
pictures. I am sure that it was expensive back then to have them made. I
just feel like there is some connection other than just friends. I would
love to see the Pruitt/Chisum connection if you don't mind sharing it.
Maybe I have the missing link in some of my stuff!
Thanks again, Tammy
