PETITIONS TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF TENNESSEE
Transcribed from Tennessee State Library and Archives Microfilm,
Roll No. 3, Legislative Petitions 1805-1812
The number preceding each petition is the identifying number for that
document.
1-1-1805 To the Hon. Gentlemen of the General Assembly sitting at
Knoxville
This petition humbly sheweth that whereas sometime in the
year
one thousand eight hundred and four, JAMES D. PUCKET of the county of
Anderson and State of Tennessee did stab the body of a certain NICODEMUS
LEFTWICH, and the said LEFTWICH became bound in recognizance to
prosecute
(for and in behalf of the State) him the said JAMES D. PUCKETT for the
said
offense, and in which recognizance NICODEMUS HACKWORTH and JOHN LEFTWICH
befame the said NICODEMUS LEFTWICHâs Securities for the said
prosecution, in
a considerable sum, and the said NICODEMUS sometime previous to the
Court to
which he was bound to appear at Knoxville, took a journey into the State
of
Virginia to transact some business, promising his said Securities to
appear
and prosecute the said suit, as what he was bound to do, but the said
NICODEMUS LEFTWICH failing to appear and return from his journey, as
what he
had promised, JOHN LEFTWICH his Security went after the said NICODEMUS
LEFTWICH promising NICODEMUS HACKWORTH his other security to bring him
back
to last March Term 1805. But the said JOHN LEFTWICH has also failed to
return and consequently that the said NICODEMUS HACKWORTH is the only
surviving person left in the state who is liable to suffer as Security
in
behalf of the said prosecutionâ¦his circumstances in life is
lowâ¦(payment of
bond and cost) would reduce him to such circumstances that he could not
possibly support his wife and family. Therefore this petitioner (prays
to be
released from paying) And this petition further maketh known to the
General
Assembly that previous to the time the JOHN LEFTWICHâ¦.went away, that
JAMES
D. PUCKET, Defendant, and his Security removed themselves out of the
state,
(Signed) NICEDEMUS HACKWORTH (3 pages)

Subject: [HUNT-L] Re: Tabitha(??) Hunt widow/ Chs Hunt m Thos TIller ca
1793
Hello listers: Although I am primarily a Tiller researcher, I do have
an
instance where Charles Hunt's widow named Tabitha ??? intermarries
second
with Thomas Tiller ca 1793. As I did not do this research myself..I
cannot
vouch for it's veracity.
However, the Tiller line is one with whom I am also attempting to hook
up
with for m,y George Tiller of Spotsylvania CO. b ca 1787. It is my
understanding that some of the Hunt family resided in that portion of
Goochland which became Albemarle>then Amherst>then possibly Nelson
counties
as some of my Layne documents mention neighbors Christian, New and Hunt
in
present day Nelson counties. Hopefull this small reference to Charles
and
Tabitha might assist someone.

Here I go one more time trying my hand at finding information on my Great Grandfather, William Edward Chism. This part of the family research has cost me a lot of time with little results. Wm. was born in Indiana and married there and had a family. Either his wife died or left, but he remarried a lady named Lizzie Harringington(my great grandmother) and they lived in Arkansas. Some of his children from the first marriage are, Dessie, Posey, Wm. E., Guy, and Otis. The children from his marriage to Lizzie are Thomas Buford(my grandfather), Reba, and Hazel. I have a Martha C. born 1899, and a Mary Edith both born in Arkansas but no one in the family knows who they are. William Edward Chism was born in 1859 I think that is the correct year for him, he died in Arkansas. I think it was in or around Blythville. If any of this sounds like part of your research I would love to share all that I have and hopefully find out some missing links. Thank you.
