According to John D. Chism in The Chisz, the father of Elisha Washington
Chism and William Elgin Chism is Jesse Chism, born in 1802 & married to
Cintha Lewis. Reportedly he died abt. 1829
However, in speaking with John D. Chism lately, he says he learned from
other descendants that Jesse Chism was run off by his wife.
Further, John D. Chism has a theory that Jesse did not die at that time,
and that he may have left Tenn.,
gone north, lied about his age, started a new life as my great
grandfather!
This may be true but at this time I don't know how to prove it.
If I could, I could tap into the genealogy that John D. has done on his
family and that would be great!
But without proof, my Jesse Chism is just kind of left afloat, unanchored
in a sea of Chisms, Chisams,Chisums, Chisholmes!

Please send me your email address, mine is:
wandabre(a)swbell.net
I will send you what I have on the chism family which is not much
Patricia, I have a Jesse L. Chism also, he was a Methodist Circuit rider, and
blacksmith, around Grapland, Tx. area. He married Sarah Harrison Sturdivant,
and was living in Anderson Co. Tx. in 1920, where he died in July 1921, and
is buried in Livelyville Cem. at Grapeland, I have never been able to find
his parents, or any siblings. I know he was in Faulkner Co. Ark., around
Comway, Mt. Vernon area, in abt. 1898. I think this is also a line that
hasn't been traced. I believe my Jesse was born bet. 1857-1867, he had 4
children James, Mary, Sallie (Sarah) and W. Cecil Chism. "Jesse" may run in
this line of Chism's, so keep a eye out, and if I find more info on any Jesse
Chism I will post--Thanks--Evelyn

Wanda:
Would like to get in touch with you. I don't have too much information on Jesse Chism. The information I have was given to me by a woman who was the granddaughter of Daniel Washington Chism. I have gone to the cemetery in Utopia and found the graves of many of the children of Daniel Washington Chism.
I hope that by now you have found out more on your Jesse Chism. All I have is that he was born about 1860 in Texas. If you have any more information I would love to have it. I have been trying to find the offspring of William Elgin Chism so that the information can be added to the book "The Chisz - A History of the Chisholme/Chism Family" by John D. Chism Jr..
I have talked to John D. Chism Jr. and he is a very interesting man. He has more information now since the book was printed in 1989. He is a wealth of information. He may try to add a publication to this book.
Unfortunately, he did not follow the line of William Elgin Chism. He followed the brother of William Elgin Chism--Elisha Washington Chism. On page 252 of the book, he states "Sorry, The family of William Elgin has not been researched." So I have been trying to locate as many of the offspring as I can.
Please get back to me if you get this e-mail.
