Hello
Do you have any information on the slaves owned in the CHISM family. My
ancestor Mary Ann -- was owned by Jacob Chism who bequeathed her to his
daughter Elizabeth when he died. Elizabeth married Lot Howard -- and my
ancestor took the name Mary Ann Howard. Additionally, Jacob owned Mary
Ann's mother Amy -- and it appears most likely siblings of Mary Ann's in
Morgan Co., MO. Jacob's children engaged in a very nasty lawsuit after
his death to partition slaves to receive their portion of the slaves
value. It's pretty disgusting. Anyway -- it looks like slaves when to
John Chism who married Frances Cooper --- and the Lethworths play a role
in all this too.
I have tried to find a full will of James Chism and not had much luck..
and would like to find some assistance in family data --bibles etc.,
that would shed some light on the slaves owned in the family.
If you go to my website below -- to Marriage, Cemetery and Census
records.. http://www.missouri-slave-data.org/Documents.html
you will find the will of Jacob Chism.. and on the front page of my site
-- is a link to a mirror site where you will find the suit of the Chism
children uploaded under "probate" I believe.

PS. Also searching for a Benjamin Chism who was born in Kentucky in the 1850's or 60's. Don't know what happened to him.
And an Emily Chism sister to Benajmin born in KY about the same time frame.

Any information leading to the following Chisms would be greatly aprreciated, including rumors, family stories that may seem like myths, or anything that might point in the right direction.
Samuel Fielder Chism b@1855 (= or-5 years) in Kentucky. Might also be known by the names Fielder, Fielding, or anything close. moved to Texas in the 1870's with his parents and sisters. May or may not have made it there alive. Might have married along the way and stayed in a different state.
Polly Ann Chism b. 1852 Kentucky. Would have been a sister to Fielder, mentioned above, same condidtions apply.
Emma Jane Chism b@ 1863 in Kentucky. Sister to Polly and Fielder. Did make it to Texas and married a George Wheeler. Had one confirmed child, William G. Wheeler, may have had a son named Joe and a daughter named Tressa. Possibly buried in a cemetery in Grayson County, Texas, definatly lived there for a time as that is where her mother lived when her pension application came through.
John Richard Chism b@1850 in Kentucky. Brother to the three above mentioned Chisms. Committed murder over a horse in Oklahoma or Arkansas. Possibly lived in Mississippi for a time. Died before 1934. Rumor has it he was taken away from Kentucky by a sherriff and never seen again. AKA: Uncle Dick.
James Chism b:@ 1789 in Virginia ...not certain about that. Possibly had a brother named Nathaniel and possibly was the son or related to Gabriel Chism.
Anything we could go on would help, even if it is just story or rumor. Be glad to share info and would gladly investigate any missing Chism that could fit one of these descriptions. Thanks a million in advance.
I am now able to get back online after being without electricity for the
past week. We were hit here by a devastating ice storm last week. Many
people are still without power.
If anyone has sent me a message and I have not replied, it is because I
did not get it. I lost a great deal of mail due to my mailbox being full and
bouncing.
I'm glad to be back, and hope all is well.
Deah
