I am looking for information about the Burris DeWitt Chism family. I know his father was Sam Chism and his mother was Gladys? Woody and they were both killed in the mid-1950s by a drunk driver.
BD Chism married Nan McEntire of Lamar Co.,, Paris TX and they had three children.
I was needing birth dates and places on the children:
Cheryl Beth, Burris DeWitt Chism Jr. and Jane.
Also, I was neeing information on the Woody family was well, especially the brother of Mrws. Sam Chism who allegedly died in the Lamar County jail.
Thank you very much. Please e-mail me at cantorjoecho(a)yahoo.com
I hope some one can answer with the data you need, but I have a little
thought to apply.
The Sturdivants were founding Dutch colonists. The areas from New
Jersey, up the hudson river to the canadian Border, and into
Pennsylvania and connecticut, were colonized by the Dutch since about
1630 or so.
There was a Van Sys family. Many portions of this family dveloped a wide
range of phonetc spellings ( one even used VANCE- Conjuncted from Van
Sys to VanSyssen to Vance.), and the patranymic naming system was used
until the British captured the area. The British pretty much forced the
use of surnames as a family pattern.
Cissem, Cism and Chism, were all used by descendants of this family, as
were Syssen, Sisson, Scism and other S variations.
My family is the SCISM family.
The below shows te progression of the name swaps in one line, we
haven't yet determined who the immigrant was. (after thirty years of
looking)

Good afternoon,
I am researching the African American Chisholm families, I am researching the
areas of Louisa counties, Albemarle, Hanover areas, and any other areas that
I am not aquatinted with. My great great great grandmother Bridget was a
slave belonging to David Chisholme of the Louisa/Goochland areas. In 1810 he
moved into Chester District, South Carolina. after his death in 1816 the
slaves were passed on to his brother Thomas. After 1843 some of the slaves
were sold and taken to Gainesville, Florida. I would like to hear from any
Chisholms that may have any information, and any Chisholms from the areas
that I have previously mentioned. Thank you.

O Lord my God , in thee I put my trust....... Psalm 7:1
Searching for information of the first wife of Elisha Chism, Elizabeth Walden daughter of James and Anne Walden of Madison county, Kentucky.
Elisha married Anne 1787, Lincoln county, Kentucky, some say Anne's mothers maiden name was Ingram.
Sometime after the death of Elizabeth, Elisha remarried a Winnea or Winnifred (Winny) some say she was a sister to Anne Ingram?
Wenny Chism was attending Spring Creek Baptist church in 1803 with Elijah Chism and Lucy Clariborne. She was dismissed by letter in 1805,
I pick her and Elisha back up in Lawrence county, Ark. 1820, they were the second earliest group of Chisms to migrate to ARk.
Ignatious and Dennis and his family were in Ark. as early as 1812.
Elisha Chism is the son of JOhn and Elleanor Gillentine Chism born Amelia county, Va.
I am hoping someone may know of the Walden connections also the maiden name of Wenny? Thanks Vickie
Th s250-L which is dedicated to all names under the C250 and S250
soundex codes will shortly have it's own website to reference others
that are researching under these names.
I am seeking website addresses to link in under the Chism/Chisholm
names.
The S250L(a)rootsweb.com is set up for comparison of like sounding
surnames to determine which branches are cross-over spellings. Soundex
codes S250, C250 and Z250 are our focus.
The project stems from concurrent locations on the Scism/Sisson/Sissom
surnames, and the many varities of spelling used in those families.
Another effort in process is a DNA study to medically "indicate" which
lines are correctly recorded, and which are most likely descended from a
common male ancestor. The Sisson group has already recieved significant
results via DNA study.
