Hello, I have been digging around again, and I wanted to post my information
again to see if anyone could recognize the connections.
I have been tracing and Elisha Chisum who married Elizabeth Walden in 1787,
Lincoln county, Kentucky, she was the daughter of James Walden and Anne.
I am starting to think that Elizabeth migrated to Ark. with her sons about
1817, and that Elisha Jr. who married Wenny was a brother to Benjamin Chism
born 1796.
Possible children of Elizabeth and Elisha
Benjamin born 1796, married Polly ? we have been told her last name was
Walker, daughter of John Adam Walker and Elizabeth Hood?
Elleanor Nellie Chism who married JOhn Adam Walker Jr.
Simeon,
John?
Elizabeth Chism born about 1794 who married a Gray.
Hinds Chism?
Elisha Jr. who married Wenny?
Benjamin had children Isham, Henderson, Wenny, Elizabeth, William,
Washington, Thomas, Benjamin and Elisha born about 1821.
Does anyone have information on the Walker connections, Walden or Chism
line? thanks Vickie
Phil,
I would be interested in the photograph of James & Mary Howard.
Do you by any chance have a list of their children and who they married? I
have some conflicting data.
Thanks
Guille

Hi Tracee,
I just happened to read the letter that Phil wrote you, I have the book, the
History of the Chisholme/Chism family by John D.Chism, and One of the John
Chism's moved into Alabama, If you need a look up let me know. I think that I
sent you A List of slave names but they were not the Chisums from Amelia
County Virginia, they were from the Hanover, Albemarle, Louisa , and
Goochland Chisholms/Chisms.

I wanted to post the link for Jacob Chism and the suit between the
family members over slaves:
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/topic/afro-amer/webbbs/probate/index.cgi?r...
I have an entire packet of information on John Chism.. and for the life
of me.. I don't understand the confusion between John and James... in my
mind there is James Chism of Halifax whose father was John Chism....but
since I am researching slaves among these families the level of
complexity is overwhelming as the same names are used over and over
again. And you know what... I probably still have it wrong. But perhaps
viewing the film etc. is the answer.. .because when looking for slave
ancestors.. you pay alot more attention to details... who is related to
who etc.
I encourage all of you who are researching CHISMS and find that there
are slaves in the family to post this information and share it with
others.
Phil.. one more thing. The documents you looked at in Bowling Green.
Were they on film or photostat copies...cause I thought the only way I
could see that information was to go to KY.. if its on film.. then the
issue can be resolved in my mind.

This is the James Chism that I have been interested in. His son Jacob
owned by great great grandmother...and I have been trying to get the
will and other documents related to his estate - -because I felt that
his sons and perhaps his daughters inherited slaves from him. When
Jacob died; his children sued each other over receiving the proceeds of
a couple of slaves.
I have some papers sent to me by another Chism researcher that features
a photograph of James H. Chism and Mary Howard - there is a woman slave
in the photo.. unfortunately I have a photocopy so it's not real clear..
but if anyone is interested, I'm happy to scan the pages and put them
online...I have Jacob Chism's will online here:
http://www.missouri-slave-data.org/Document.html
If you go to this site and review probate/wills -- you will see the
lawsuit of the slaves posted -- over the estate of Jacob Chism.
I would love to get a copy of the will and associated information on
slaves if you are willing to share.
My ancestor was named Mary Ann Howard -- she was owned by Jacob Chism
and bequeathed to his daughter Elizabeth upon his death. Elizabeth
married Lot Howard in Morgan CO., MO.
Mary Ann's mother was named AMY -- and I believe she either died or was
given to someone else...but I am not sure.. the will doesn't give her
away to anyone. But it appears that Amy's children were given away to
Jacob's children, John and Margaret/Martha Chism Letchworth.
Thanks Phil

I am interested in Meredith Darlington Brock. My gggf is Meredith Darlington Brock Lamb son of Caspar Lamb and grandson of Capn Peter Lamb who came from Virginia about 1803-1807 with his brothers. Im wondering if maybe they came together. It is an unusual name Meredith Darlington Brock. My family called MD "Brock". I'd appreciate a return if anyone has any information on this name. My Gr Gr Grandfather was Green Chism, he was married to Pamelia Davis. They had the following children, Marietta- 1866, Martha-1869, Anna-1872, Mattie E.(twin)-1876. Hester M (twin)-1876 & Edgar-1878. They were not from any Indiam tribe, but the names sound similar to the ones that you listed. Millie, the mother, could have been Pamelia. Murray could have been Marietta or Martha, Vinnie, I don't know about, and Anner could have been Anna.
Dear List Members,
When posting queries, it is so very helpful if you put the appropriate
information in the subject line, such as name, date if known, etc. Granted,
it must be kept to a minimum due to space, but it does help other folks on
the list know whether or not it's something that might be of particular
interest to them.
The reality is that many people receive multitudes of messages every day
from one source or another. So it is not unusual for the delete key to be
used to thin down mail, particularly when it would appear to have no
connection with that person.
So please, put a bit of information in the subject line to alert our
subscribers as to the content of the post.
If you just say "Looking for family," then it might possibly be deleted
by someone who may hold the key to a new discovery.
If a thread gets going on a topic, and the topic makes a change, then
please also reflect that change in the subject line. A lot could be missed
otherwise.
Also remember that messages can only be sent through the lists in plain
text format.
This past year has been a difficult one for many people, myself included.
Hopefully we can move ahead, make new discoveries, find family, and break
down those brick walls.
Therefore at this time, to begin the new year, I would like to open up
this first week of January to a roll call.
Please remember when responding, DO NOT just put roll call in the subject
line. You do not have to mention roll call at all, use that valuable space
for a name, location, or date if you have it.
Ok, let's post our queries!
Best Wishes and Happy Hunting,
Deah

Happy New Year everyone! As we begin a new year I thought this would be a
good time to go over a few things for the list.
If you are not sure what lists you are subscribed to, then go to Password
Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and fill out the applicable
boxes for the information that you need.
When requesting information about which lists you are subscribed to, you
will quickly receive a reply naming all those lists, the address used to
post to the lists, and instructions as to how to unsubscribe from them.
Remember when sending messages, if they are sent to the -request address
they are not being posted to the list. They will only come here to me.
Addresses that contain the word "request" are only used for subscribing and
unsubscribing.
Also many times you will see a post from the message boards that is
"gatewayed" to many of the lists. A good portion of those who post to the
message boards do not subscribe to the lists. So if you reply via the list
regarding a board post, chances are good that the person you are trying to
respond to will not see your response. It is best to go to the board and
post your response there.
If by chance the person that posted does happen to also subscribe to the
list, they will still see your response.
If you wish to unsubscribe and are having problems, please do not send a
rude message to the list. It will get you unsubscribed, manually by me, but
also blocked from subscribing in the future. This is one instance when going
to Password Central is very helpful, and will save both you and me some
concern.
Or send me a note and ask for help, I don't mind a bit, and gladly will
help anyone that needs it. I realize things can be confusing at times.
Also, please know that although you don't always see me, I am here and
watching over you. If an issue arises on the list, I will take care of it
one-on-one in private with that individual or indivuals.

Unless you can trace any of your family members back to the Albany, Syracuse or Rotterdam area in upper New York state, then I'm not able to do much. I have done extensive research in this area obtaining much of the vital stats from Albany and Syracuse. So, if you wind up with a lead in that direction, I can be of help. We are able to go back to the late 1600s and have located grave markers of relatives back to the 1700s. I hope that we can be of help some day. If you have others who contact you with traceability to upper NYS, put them in touch with me.

Hello Bob, so sorry I did not answer your reply to my original request, but yours just showed up on my system, go figure this is modern technology for you (S). Bob to be honest I have not been able to find out anything more than what I posted originally. I do not know about any other Chism researcher's family's and their willingness to speak of the past, but mine is a closed subject. My family is very unwilling to answer my questions so I am on my own, all that I know is that my great grandfather was William Edward Chism and the names of his chidren from his first marriage. I dont even know his first wife's name. The second wife which was my great grandmother was Lizzie Harrington.
