Jackie,
The 1850 Census of Franklin Co. KY shows the family of Larkin Chism:
#377/379
Larkin Chism 49 M KY
Mildred Chism 38 F (all rest b. KY)
Lucy A. 20 F
Elizabeth 18 F
Samuel 17 M Laborer
William 15 M
Susan 12 F
Robert 10 M
Bartholemew Watson 2 M
The only problem with this particular Chism family is that Elizabeth is
shown as being 18 and at home. The 1850 Census in Casey Co. shows the
following:
1850 Casey KY p. 308
Pointer, Tarlton 28 KY Farmer N N $300 RE
Elizabeth 22 KY Spins
Mary E. 2 KY
Since Tarlton and Elizabeth married in 1845, it would appear that the
Elizabeth Chism found with Larkin could not be the same one. I had looked
at them previously and was alerted to the fact that the ages didn't match
and would be about impossible.
Another descendant of the Pointer family believes it is possible that
Elizabeth's Chism family was from the Green Co. KY Chisms. It would be
wonderful if one of the descendants of those branches could help with this
search.

I have been sent some new Chism records. One is for an Elizabeth CHISM who
married a Tarlton POINTER, son of James POINTER and Susannah Henderson
POINTER. It says she was born abt. 1828 and married 11/18/1845. Her father is
given as Larkin CHISM. Does any one know of this family?
I also have a marriage record for a John S. CHISM to an Elizabeth Jane
Henderson on 111/19/1852. I would also like to know about this Chism.

Got this information from Carolyn, and thought I would pass it on.

"I have just received information that the church that was located in
Stamping Ground, Scott County, Ky. was destroyed in the Apr. 1974 tornadoes
that razed almost the entire town of Stamping Ground. I do not know if the
records had been moved but there certainly wasn't anything left of Stamping
Ground. This might save someone some looking time"
My goodness! There is the website for what was the Westfork Baptist Church.
http://www.fbc-raytown.org/
This is where the Chism's were I posted about. I also notice the name Beckham. That is a name that I have come across in doing searches on the Chishams/Chisms. This is only one page of their history. I'm still looking through the site. This is maybe going to be a great resource.
Deah
May you walk in sunshine.
I think sometime back I posted about some Chism's that were members of the Westfork Baptist Church in Jackson county, Missouri. I have a little bit more information on the church.
A small group of families from the Kentucky, Tennesee, the Carolina's and Virginia area, came together to worship on December 6, 1842. In so doing, they organized a new church near Wray's blacksmith shop.
The first gatherings were at the home of Albert Brooking. Originally the church was called the "West Fork of Little Blue Church." This is in the area that is now Raytown, Missouri.
In June of 1846, construction of the first building began, the contract being given to two of Daniel Boone's sons. In April of 1847 the first worship was held in the new building, and the name of the church was changed to "West Fork Baptist Church."
Howard Chism, received letter March 18, 1852.
Sarah Chism, December 1852
Mary Ann Chism, 1852, died 1853
Julia Chism, August 31, 1843
Thomas Chism 1842
Now note here, my gr gr grandparents Thomas and Julia are not spelled "Chisham", but "Chism." Also they were some of the founding members of the church. There were other relatives who also were founding members. i.e. DeHonney, and Stribling. Julia's maiden name was Stribling, and her mother's maiden name was DeHonney.
I do believe all these Chism's to be family though.
Deah
Here's a bit of information from a sister, that she got from our cousin Jean.
Julia Stribling was a member of the Baptist Church in Stamping Grounds, Kentucky. (Scott County.) She was baptised in 1833, and dismissed in August of 1834. That was the same year that she married Thomas D. Chisham.
There were other "Chisms" (notice the variation in spelling) who were also members of that church. Might be something good to look into.

May you walk in sunshine.
Hello friends,
Well the past few days have certainly been interesting ones! As many of you may know by now, the server that housed a number of the RootsWeb mailing lists crashed.
Many long, hard hours were put in by some very dedicated people, in an attempt to restore it's function. Sadly, in the end, all lists housed on that server had to be moved to another one.
In the course of all that has taken place, some lists were affected. You may notice that some lists that you subscribe to, no longer have the prepend (i. e. list name), in the subject line. Some may have lost the taglines found at the bottom.
And unfortunately, some who had mailed either sub or unsub requests to the affected lists, did not get the request met. One other problem that has arisen, was that a few people who were subbed, were lost from the list.
Things are getting back to normal, but I am still working on getting my lists edited and the custom settings redone.
Another thing you might notice and watch for, is whether your replies go back to the sender, or back to the list. Some of these functions likewise were affected.
Not all of my lists were affected by the crash, however I am going to send this to all my lists, for one specific reason. Even though you might not be on one of my lists affected by the crash, you might have been subbed to others that were. And a number of my lists were housed on that server.
I highly recommend that you check to see which mailing lists you are currently subscribed to, to make sure you are still listed as a subscriber. You can do that by going to
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com
This would also be a good time to do a quick roll call and make sure you are getting through. Make sure your replies go back to the list. If when you hit reply and look at who it is going to, if it does not have the mailing list in the addy, you need to hit "reply to all."
For some of you, this will be the first message from me, as I had just adopted several more lists right before the crash.
Now, does anybody have any aspirin????? <BG>

with only a slight headache!
Sorry
I put down some of the details of Supery Chism but I receive so many emails
that I just discard those that are not in the lines I am searching. I
remember telling the lady at the time that I had no further information.

Hi Chick,
Would you happen to remember any of the folks that were looking for slaves of
Suprey? They may be some of my relatives. We have already established that
they were the property of David Chsholme jr., and then his brother Thomas,
and Suprey. I have a slave list with the names of the fifty -one slaves that
were listed on the esttate sale of Suprey in 1834. On that list were names of
my great great grand father and his two brothers, and a wife (not recoginized
until after 1866) and about five other men. Those slaves that were mentioned
were in Gainesville, Florida in 1869 and I believe some of them were there
as early as 1855. I have been trying to find out who took them to
Gainesville. John D. thinks that either of Suprey's sons I believe Adam E.
and the other name esacapes me right now. , may have taken them there. If
you ri\un across any infroamtion regarding these people . I would appreciate
it if you would let me know. thank you in advance.
Does anyone know about a George Ell Chism in Jackson county, Missouri? On the 1850 census, there is a George Ell Chism listed in the same household as my gr gr grandparents. It says he was 18, a farmer, and born in Missouri.

I am glad that you are in touch with John D. I would be happy to get a copy
of Supery's estate Sale. I am sure that it includes the slaves etc. Every
so Often I get a letter from someone searching for the slaves of Supery.

Hi Tracee,
I don't have any Chisms from Mo. information, and like you I get very
confused trying to keep up with the lines. In the index to John Chisms book
there is about twenty with the given name James. If you call Mr. Chism, I am
sure that he will put you on the right path.
Antoinette
Hi Tracee,
Mr.Chism's book is called The Chiz, History of the Chisholme/Chism Family.
His address is 1027 Berkley Drive, Clemson,S.C. 29631. the last time that we
emailed each other I meant to ask you what line did you belong to. I think
that I sent you a list of slaves that he had sent me, would you like to check
them again to see if any of them went to MO. Let me know.
Antoinette
Thought I'd send this to the Chism list as well. Hope it helps someone.
Am forwarding information I received from a lady who did a lookup in the Jackson county, Missouri marriage book she has. I think there will be some connection no doubt. And note the Dehoney name. Verrrrrrry interesting! Oh yes, and the Dalton name as well. That's another story I am wondering about. Emmett Dalton, a survivor of the bank robbery shootout in Coffeyville, Ks, signed a picture to his good friend, Jay E. House. Just an interesting byline there, since the Dalton's came from up around there. In fact, Pa Dalton ran a saloon in Westport, Missouri. I find the House name interesting since Julia had a stepsister who married a House. The House's, Chisham's, and Dalton's were all in the same area at one time. Who says we might not have a horse thief in the family??? LOL
Deah
Trying to get back into the swing of things.
Deah here is all the ones I could find. Hope some of them will be helpful.
CHISAM, Benjamin F. 4/10/1847 Rowark, Nancy page 137
CHISAM, Benjamin F. 1/26/1851 Naille, Elizabeth Ann page 31
CHISM, William 5/6/1856 Dalton, Agnes page 266
CHISM Sarah J.12/16/1852 Courtney, James M. page 100
CHISM, Sarah 10/5/1854 Dehoney, Leander
Hope these help out some. IVY
Deah
May you walk in sunshine.
Hi chick,
thank you for your email, I spoke with John D. yesterday. We have been in
contact for overr a year. His book is very interesting , and my great great
great grandmother and her two children are mentioned in it. My family onced
belonged to David Chisholme Jr. of Chester, South Carolina. and he is going
to send me the full estate sale of Suprey Chisholme, if you are interested
let me know and I will share what I have with you.
Sincerely,
antoinette
Antoinette,
Should I contact him about Chisms that went into KY and then MO? Is
there a book I can buy...on the CHISMS? The Chisms I'm tracing are from
Barren Co and Monroe Co KY -- and many came to Morgan Co, Cooper and
Howard Co Missouri. James Chism and his wife Mary Howard -- Mary is a
descendent of Obadiah and Priscilla Avery Breed Howard. Sorry for the
redundancy everyone... I am also tracing African American ancestors... I
know that they were slaves of James Chism...and subsequently distributed
among his children and grandchildren.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated. At this point I am trying to
get wills, land deed records and perhaps any family bible records that
make mention of slaves. Perhaps someone on one of these lists has old
probate records of CHISMS that they would be willing to share.

I do not have any information on these people. May I suggest that you
contact:
John D. Chism, Jr.
1027 Berkley Dr.
Clemson, S. C. 29631
John has much more information on the Chisholme/Chisholm/Chism clan than I
do. You will find him a fine gentleman.
Happy Hunting
Chick
