My mothers family was Chisholm but I don't think there is a connection. They moved to Virginia from New York in the 1940's. My grandfather was a John Chisholm but was married only once to Martha Barbara Strouch and they had 2 daughters. My grandfather, John Chisholm, passed away in 1958 and is buried with his wife in Falls Church, VA. I am just beginning my research, if I find anything on your family I will pass it along. Good luck to you. I know it can be tough going, my grandmother was adopted and I don't have a clue how to figure that one out.

Roderick C. Chisholm had a son name William Alexander Chisholm. He lived on the border of La and Ar. He was shot. The area was near Ida, La. Not sure of the county of Ar.

Hi Chris
Did you ever come across any more info about Robert Walter Chisholm? I'd be interested in learning more about the family info you have indicating he held Myrrhee Station.
Many thanks
Debbie

There were at least 3 Roderick MacDonald in the Heatherton area from what I can gather right now (Bayfield, Glassburn, Black Avon). Lots of confusion & the records are not always 100% correct
Until the late 1860's, Heatherton was served by the priest from St Andrew's so some records are kept there and also for a time was associated with Pomquet
Mary MacDonald - Died Aug 17, 1939, age 90, buried at Heatherton. Prov death record indicate birthdate of May 10, 1849
Married - Archibald MacDougall - son of Alexander MacDougall, Heatherton, July 31, 1900, Heatherton, widowed, his 2nd marriage, died Apr 5, 1920, age 83
I believe the tombstone is still there
>From St Andrew's parish records
Elizabeth MacDonald - b Sept 18, 1857 to Rory MacDonald & Ellen Chisholm
William MacDonald - b Feb 12, 1851 to Roderick MacDonald & Helen Chisholm
Other info
Duncan R MacDonald - died Feb 7 1929, age 64, buried at Heatherton - in Heatherton parish records he was listed as a brother to Mary MacDougall but the NS Prov death record indicates he is the son of Roderick & Mary (Chisholm) MacDonald, age 74 of Black Avon
Possible Roderick's
Buried at Heatherton, Died Dec 19, 1909, age 92, born South Side Harbour from NS Prov records
Hope some of this is helpful

Dear Alastair,
Thanks for responding and for the Chisholm link. My ancestors were Roman Catholic and I have found evidence of them through Catholic church birth records for 3 of their children in Antigonish County N.S./Heatherton parish. But those records were pretty sparse with no mention of Ellen Chisholm or Roderick Mcdonald's parents. My Great grandmother, Elizabeth Mcdonald's marriage record in Massachusetts clearly states that both her parents were born in Scotland. Little to go on I know, but every bit counts. Thanks again. Mike

Hi Mike,
I don't have any answers for you but you might like to consider posting your enqury on the Chisholm Genealogies International forum. We have had some successes there in the past - it could be worth a shot.
http://www.chisholmgenealogy.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl
Your ancestors are not amongst any of the Nova Scotian families I have on file but somebody might recognise them.
I imagine they were Roman Catholics in which case it will be difficult, if not impossible, to find the Scottish connection - a distinct shortage of Catholics records in that period! But who knows ...?
Best wishes,
Alastair

It's uncorroborated but her father's name could be Donald. Her daughter's marriage certificate says that Ellen was born in Scotland. Ellen's husband, Roderick McDonald was also born in Scotland abt 1808 according to another family tree I saw. Ellen had another daughter, Mary Anne or Mary who married an Archibald MacDougall. In some of the church records I saw Ellen was also shown as Helen when the parish priest used the Latin form for her name. Does that help? Thanks, Mike.

I am looking for information about my GG Grandmother Ellen Chisholm. She was born in Scotland and immigrated to Antigonish County, N.S. Canada. She lived in Heatherton and married Roderick McDonald. Their daughter, Elizabeth (Lizzie) my great grandmother was born in Heatherton in 1862. I don't have any birth or death dates for either Ellen Chisholm or her husband, Roderick. I would dearly like to know more about her family, and where in Scotland they came from. I'm hoping someone out there can help. Thanks. Mike
