I am trying to research my ancestors Donald Chisholm (born 1820 in Gairloch) and his wife Christina "Christy" MacKay (born 1840 in Stornoway). I have been unable to find documented proof of Donald's ancestry, but instead found information to say that his parents were Angus Chisholm (1790-1835) and Catherine MacArthur (1789-1879) both from Cromore on the Isle of Lewis. If anyone has any information about Christina or Donald, including dates of death or their children, I would appreciate it beyond words. Thanks.

There looks to be proof that Murdoch Chisholm had a son named Malcolm, that Malcolm was the oldest son, that Malcom oppredeceased Murdoch, and that Malcolm left two sons, name s John Chisholm and Daniel Chisholm junior. Daniel Chisholm senior is the brother of Malcolm. This info is contained in a probated document filed September 1823 at the Montgomery Co Court of Equity. Unfortunately there is no word on any children of Angus, but it does show that he is the guardian of two minors, Calvin J Chisholm and Mary A Chisholm, the children of Murdoch's 4th son John, also deceased by 1823.
There is a deed of sale where Murdoch sells 50 acres near Mountain Creek in 1785, and a witness to the deed is Malcom Chisholm. This deed contains a most intersting piece of information. The vendors "sign" the document by marking with a cross, and the names are Murdo Chisom and Mary Chison. There is no sign of any Flora. Furthermore, one of the daughters of Murdoch is named Mary, as is one granddaughter. There is no information that any descendents are named Flora, and that would represent a most un Scottish way of doing things, and remeber that the children were either born in Scotland, or born shortly after arrival in NC. This information has been kindly provided by Chisholm descendants of Malcolm, still resident in Montgomery Co.NC
So in addition to providing some answers concerning a connection between Murdoch and Malcolm, I now pose a query, where did the information that Murdochs wife was named Flora McPherson come from, and has this source ever been verified?

Jemima Chisholm, who travelled with her brother John Chisholm on the ship 'Araminta', arrived in New South Wales, Australia on 29 July 1854. Both Jemima and John were born in Fodderty, Scotland (1825, 1827). It is understood that Jemima ran away from home and once in Australia did not keep in touch with her family and cannot be traced through any records so far. Her brother John married Euphemia MacDonald and lived in Inverell, New South Wales. Another sister, Ann (born 1824 in Contin, Scotland) followed them to Australia arriving on the ship 'Bee' in January 1856 and married a Carter. Their parents were Alexander Chisholm (born c 1780), a quarryman, and Margaret MacKenzie (born 1791 in Fodderty). Other siblings of Jemima, John and Ann were Isabell (1813), William (1815), James (1817), Alexander (1818), Colin (1830) and Thomas (1833). From letters it is understood that William Chisholm in 1856 was living in America and Colin Chisholm later joined him and may have travelled !
to Canada. Any help with the elusive Jemima or her siblings would be gratefully received.
