The Chisholm Forum is going great on this family. The Fletcher name is a red herring so far as the Durham and Edinburgh families go, just a coincidence. We have the family traced back to Inverness in 1820. Captain Daniel Chisholm is his grandfather, and no doubt the source of his apparent wealth independent of what might have been expected of a ships steward. Captain Daniel was well respected in the Marine Salvage Industry, and there is a huge monument for him at the Rake Lane Cemetery, quite close to where Robert DF lived in Dalmorton Road. Captain Daniel Chisholm lived nearby, a bit closer to the centre, in Seecombe. The Rake Lane cemetary has I believe Captain Turner of the Lusitania as one of its celebrity internments

Hi Mike, We have made progress on Robert Daniel Fletcher Chisholm. I have not had the records dug out of ancestry.com yet, but I an very confident that he is the son of Peter Fletcher Chisholm and Mary Jane Dixon who were married the year before in Toxteth Park.
Peter Fl Chisholm born 1855 in Ormskirk Lancs, to the north of Liverpool. Concurrently on the other side of the country in Chester le Street, there is a family with similar naming systems, children born include Robert Fletcher Chisholm and Hannah Fletcher Chisholm.
Robert on the Lusitania left a will, that will be available. He has a sister named Isabel Fletcher Chisholm who I would say went to Newcastle NSW and married a Mr James Watt. Cant tell yet if the Fletcher Chisholms at Chester le Street are the same family, but would like to see if there is a connection to the Edinburgh family which was mentioned in this thread

Hi Bettye,
Concerning John Walker Chisholm: I got his middle name from death records in Texas. I don't remember just whose but I verified the name Walker from 2 or 3 sources. I have the records "someplace". I know that John Walker's father bought and sold a lot of Indian land as the BLM records indicate. I know that he and a Martin were partners in several land tranctions and know that he and Martin donated land to the state of Mississippi for use to build the University of Mississippi. The records of Lauderdale show that John also had a son, James, who was a surveyor and John went on a bond for James on a surveying contract. James died young. I suspect that John was also a surveyor. In researching my family, I learned that my ggggrandfather, Obediah, had a brother, Elijah, who was very active in buying and selling Indian land in Tennessee. Eligah, his son James, and some more kin formed the Chisum Land Company, and the records of several counties in Tennessee are repleate with tractio!
ns of the Chisum Land Company. Elijah's son James went to Madison Co Tennessee in the early 1800s and continued to deal in land. There are records showing that both Eligh and James were surveyors. There is one record in Madison Co, Tn which makes me think that your John Sr and

W. L., my name is Bettye Lynn Haun and I, too, have been researching for 20 years, off and on. I have not know the middle name of John Chisholm and had always assumed it was William, not Walker. But unless I uncover some reference to the William that I have overlooked, I suppose it could well have been Walker. I travelled to Alabama about 10 years ago, and found the cemetery as well as a wealth of information on the Chisholms. A lot of land transactions, wills, etc., all at the court house and library in Lauderdale Co. My great great grandfather, "Capt" John W. Chisholm's father was John Chisholm (b. 11-22-1775; d. 7-30-1847). These dates were secured from the Chisholm Cemetery info at the Florence library and from the tombstones. His wife Esther Lynn (b. 11-25-1780; d. 9-27-1852) is also buried there as you know.
This John's father is John Chisholm, Sr. and is buried in the Chisholm Cemetery (b. 8-1-1738; d. 10-9-1828). His wife is Mary (b. 8-10-1743;
d. 3-6-1827). I don't know Mary's maiden name. I have notations on Esther Lynn's family going back to Andrew Linn (her grandfather) who immigrated from Ireland in early 1700's.Esther Lynn's info was gained from the internet and I don't know how reliable it is. My email: bettyehaun(a)yahoo.com if you have info for me or have other questions. Deeds of John and Esther are very interesting and have a lot of unanswered questions which I believe could be answered if I applied myself!

Hello
My name is W.L. Chisholm and I have been doing Chisholm family research on and off for the past 20 years. Your Chisholm family has been of interest to me since I have been searching for a connection between your family and mine. I know John Walker Chisholm married the daughter of Benjamin Lynn and I know there is an older John buried with his wife Mary in the Chisholm Cemetery near Florance. It has been assumed by other researchers that the older John was the father of John Walker Chisholm. Do you have any information on the older John? Who were his father and mother.
Thanks

Which birth index did you mean? And how many clues have you found which head in the direction of Toxteth Park. There are a few chisholm families there, but so far I havent seen anything to connect him there.His marriage is on the Lancashire side of the Mersey at West Derby, as is Toxteth park. However he has left a few clues that he belonged more on the Cheshire side at Wallasey. Intersting that his wife's father is an agent for a Steam boat company. Just wondering if Robt DF might be connected to the North Shields Chisholm family who operated Steam Tugs in Tynemouth, Aberdeen , and the Mersey, where Stephenson Chisholm III lived and died in Wallasey.

Hi Mike.
Do you have any proof that this Robert DF Chisholm was born at Toxteth Park. Seems difficult to find a record for him, amongs the several chisholm households in that district. There were chisholm families on the otherside of the Mersey, and he did leave an address there in 1919, at New Brighton
regards
Robert Chisholm
