Hello Carol,
My great grandfather was James Johnston Chisholm, brother of your great grandfather Marquis Chisholm, which makes us some kind of cousins. I have inherited a batch of letters written by and to James, and am gradually transcribing them. they describe life in Pittsburgh and their various travels, etc. Let me know if you'd like to have a PDF copy when I'm done.
best,
Janet Ashford
P.S. James J. Chisholm was the father of my paternal grandmother, Jean Chisholm Isaacs.

Hello!
We visited our family, the Chisholms, in Strathglass, just thirty miles north of Inverness, and we're wondering of there are any other Chisholms left in that area.

We are looking for information on the father of Donald (or Daniel) Chisholm (1854-1914). The father's name was likely Alexander. Alexander may have been born in the 1820s in either Nova Scotia or Scotland.
Alexander's Irish wife was Julia (last name unknown), born in 1827.
Does anyone have information on this family?

I am trying to trace the ancestors of my great-grandmother Mary Campbell
Chisholm born.c1835 in ‘Scotland’ (according to England census’
from1861) d.1909 in London
She married James McIntosh ( b.1827 in Old Machar, Aberdeen) in London
in 1858 and they had seven children: -
Campbell b 1859
James b 1860
Leslie 1862 (my grandfather)
John b.1864
Alice b.1867
William b.1868
Mary’s Father according to the marriage certificate was William Chisholm
- occupation Merchant. He is possibly the William Chisholm and family in
the Whitechapel London census of 1851. If so he was also born in ‘Scotland’.
I would appreciate any help
Don

Thank you so much!!! I can't believe you found this! I hadn't been able to find anything online about this cemetery, so of course he had to be in that one :)
The moderator at Chisholm Genealogies mentioned that this family had another son named John born in 1763 who died in infancy, so that may be where the incorrect date came from. (and then they named their next son John). The incorrect date was also mentioned in a biographical sketch that focused on his grandson John, but grandkids don't always get their grandparents' birthdays right!
Thanks so much! I can't wait to tell my grandma that you found her ancestor!

Don't know where the date 4th May 1763 originated for John Chisholm's birth, but the burial details provided by pmca143 and the Scottish parish records make it quite clear that this date is incorrect - unfortunately it is published online and so the misinformation remains for all to see and be misled...!
John Chisholm was born in Bunchrew 20 December 1765 - that's 76 years, 8 months and 14 days before his death on 4th August 1842.

Hi!
I'm also descended from John Chisholm, through his son Matthew, born in 1803, and I'm so exited to find our immigrant ancestor that actually came over from Scotland! My family didn't know much about our Chisholm roots, so it took me a long time to trace our ancestry back to John. I've found him in ancestry family trees, but nobody seems to have a source document for his birth and death dates. Supposedly he died in Duncannon, but I haven't been able to find his gravesite online. I may have to contact the Perry County historians, who will do research for a fee. It's almost more fun to look myself, but I'm stumped! I know I'm replying to a very old post, but hopefully you will get this. Have you ever been able to find any additional information on John? Thanks! It's always nice to meet a cousin! :)

Hi!
I just saw your post about John Chisholm (1763-1842). I know it's an old one, but thought I'd reply anyway! I'm also looking for source documentation on John. The best info I've found so far is in google books on Perry County history. (Google the terms Perry county, Chisholm.) Apparently John built the grist mill in Duncannon in about 1814, and was also the miller for a while, as well as a farmer. I haven't been able to find his grave online, so I may contact the Perry county historians, who have the cemetery records for the whole county indexed. There's no exact match for John's birthdate in the Scottish national archives, so I really hope to verify his dates with Pennsylvania records. John's grandson, another John Chisholm, is mentioned in the book, A history of Columbiana county, Ohio, and that source says that our John Chisholm came over from Scotland in 1785 and lived in Philadelphia before moving to Duncannon around 1808. Not everything in a book can be taken as!
gospel of course, but that's all I have to go on so far! Did you ever find any additional information on John? Records might not exist for him anymore, but isn't it fun looking! All the best!

Hi Toya!
I just saw your post! Sorry for the late reply--I must have missed the alert when you posted it. That would be awesome if we're related! It's been so hard to track this ancestor because I haven't been able to verify his birthdates, and there's no exact match in the Scottish archives. If you could contact your brother that would be wonderful. I hope to visit Scotland someday, but I'll have to save up! Thanks for your help!

I don't know if this is the same Russell Chism you are looking for. But he was living with a Winniefred Chism 1850 Randolph county, Ark. When you metioned Russells, We always thought Winny was a Russell, but never could prove this. This is a part of the John and elleanor Gillentine chism line. My Elisha was in Lawrence county, Ark. died 1827, Winny was executrix. Winny was known as one of the early pioners in Izard county, Ark.
