I have used my Family Bible, which has Family Records in it to research my Family. I started with my Grandpa and worked my way up from there. I made it to Adam Chisholme birth 1695 death August 12,1756. The name David you had listed as his son was one of my greatgreat grandfathers. From my search I found I am a 10th Generation Chism from Adam.

As far as I know I am not connected, but could be from another line in the Clan era of the 1700's or earlier. But I know this story from the book I quoted, writeen by the local Clan Chisholm Historian. Its an earwitness account of an eyewitness account. Our senior matriach within the NZ society, since passed away,is the grandaughter of Marion, wife of William Chisholm. She listened to the stories her grandmother told of life back in Scotland, and of the time in the early 1850's when they were watching the launch of "The Black Prince" Her friends had often talked about a good looking young man named Willie Chisholm. She missed the launching of the ship, but she did not miss young Willie. Granny recalls meeting Willie's mother, after they began "walking out". The grandaughter(Jessie) says "When Grannie met Marjory, smoking her pipe by the fire, she realised where Willie had got his marvelous blue eyes"
Quite some musical talents in the family as well.
I dont suppose you smoke a pipe, or drink tea. There was always a pot on the hob at Marjories house. There was no decent furniture in the house, but there was a piano.
Daniel was a weaver but he played woodwind in the band whih performed at Rothesay in the summer. Later,Marquis conducted the bandat Rothesay and Wigtown. Davy used tune the piano's of the rich folk living there.
Marjorie escapoed Ireland in a fisshing boat. Her brothers were killed while defending her parents Linen Mill. Daniel and Marj married 1828, Nielston, I expect you have got that part. Their son William, the emigrant to NZ, had children also named Daniel and Marjorie, and a young one born in NZ, who they named Thomas, I expect named after your PA ancestor.Thomas is the grandfather of Jessie, who recalled her Granny telling the stories of Daniel and Marjory.
Information beyon Daniel's father (William the soldier on the Camerons) is not contained in the book. I suspect it may be hard to dig deeper.

This Chisholm family is Highland Scottish. The Irish connection cames because Daniel's father,William Chisholm, was a private in the Cameron Highlanders, serving in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1803 he was stationed at Linlithgow, East Lothian, where he married margaret Adams, and she went tio Ireland with him when he was staioned there for 10 years. Their son Daniel was born in Ireland, as was Daniels wife. Marjory McClintock..but she escaped to Scotland when she was about 18,her two brothers had been killed during an uprising. If any Chisholm descendents have got marvellous blue eyes, they come from Marjory McLintock.
info from "Chisholm Pioneers in Colonial New Zealand", by Audrey Barney
Actually when Daniel's son William arrived in NZ in 1875, a son was born, and he was named Thomas, presumably after Wm's brother Thomas who went to Pennsylvania.
