I am the daughter of a 47 year old woman who was adopted at a very young age, I believe she was under two months old. The only information we have is that she was given the name JANET ELIZABETH CHISHOLM by her birth mother. She was born in the Masi(Sudbury) area of Ontario on November 29th, 1962. We are not trying to locate her birth family, we are trying to find out where we come from. If you can shed any light on this situation, please help! Thank you...

Ensign William Chisholm (1788-1842), George's son .....yes, and the founder of Oakville
Sgt. William Chisholm...if born 1787 at Fort Niagra then he is the son of John and nephew of George
Private George Chisholm (1744-1842), Capt. George?
Private John Chisholm.... if born 1746 then he is Georges brother and is also UEL,afterthe War of 1812 was awarded a land grant at Queenston, Ontario, nearNiagara Falls.. if born 1794 then he is son of John born 1744. This son John died of wounds, 1812
Looks like if you are doing serious research you should see if you can get access to Chisholm International Genealogical Database, most of the info youwant is in there, and there are also plenty of notes and references.
And if your research throws up new information, this will be gadly accepted by the database.

I have payroll and other documents for the 2nd Regiment of York Militia, at the time of the War of 1812, from microfilm obtained from the Canada Archives in Ottawa. I have records for:
Capt. George Chisholm (1752-)
Capt. John Chisholm (1784-1861), George's son?
Lieut. William Chisholm, George's son?
Ensign George Chisholm (1792-1872), George's son
Ensign William Chisholm (1788-1842), George's son
Sgt. William Chisholm
Private George Chisholm (1744-1842), Capt. George?
Private John Chisholm
I would like to clarify how these men were connected. Possibly there were only George and his son serving a variety of different ranks at different times or possibly other Chisholms with the same first names were living in the area.
I am writing a short history of the regiment and would like to have the following biographical information for each man:
Birth: Year and place, name of parents
Marriage: Spouse and year
Year arrived in the Niagara area
Place of residence during the war or after
Any family history of the war
Any other family members in the 2nd York
Death: Year and place
I would like to correspond with a descendent of the family who has an interest in their history. My interest in the regiment originated with the discovery of my ancestral connection.

Hi Fred.
The history of this family is well documented by Clan Chisholm Society, and of course by the Oakville Musuem.
The immigrant ancestor would be George born 1752 in Croy/Dalcross, Invernessshire, and this name lives on in Ontario to this very day.The ancestry of this family can be taken as far back to John Chisholm in Nairn, 1684. Would you be able to say what sort of biographical info you would like, and also what sort of historical info you have come across? I can contact a descendant of this family if you wish? You can also find biographical info on the Oakville family by researching a book by Hazel Mathews.
