So would a lot of people. The fact is there appears to be no records to nail down those dates. Once you go past Obediah and Elijah, speculation is the order of the day with the exception of the children of John and Ellender and even there speculation is at least 50%

Well I am going to assume that these are two different lines. Can not find a common relative so we must not be related.

We have thought for years we belonged to the John Chisum line of Amelia
county, based on DNA it looks as if we are more related to one of the Adam
Chism lines of SC? Can you explain that one?

For years I have viewed this board and read the comments on the various
Chisholms around the world. Well it is time we cleared up some of the things
that have been posted, two of my favorites are RICHARD 1613 and Adam 1692
plus the surname Chisholm. Every Chisholm is related from 1. John Chisholm
1200. There are no other Chisholms. As to Richard Chisholm he is the 15th
generation from John the first. He comes from the Crmlix Branch. Most of you
are on the right track so keep hunting. Adam is another story, you are miles
off on him, there were two Adams that were in Virginia at the same time so
back to the drawing board on him. Now I have a question on John / Margaret
Chisholm. I would like to get the birth, death and marriages dates on there
kids not just the years dates. Thanks

I would like to know the birth, marriage and death dates for John / Margaret Chisholms kids, not just the year. There is two possible marriages for John 1.Sarah Kilpatrick 1754 and 2. Margaret Chisholm 1772. I have been watching this site for years and see the same things being repeated and debated with litle progress. Two of my favorites are Richard Chisholm 1613 and Adam 1692 and still no luck, shame. I will tell you this your pretty close on Richard but miles off on Adam. I will tell you one thing so you get on with your searches, There is only one CHISHOLM and every one is related to him so forget about all the other chisholms, example Richard 1613 is from the Cromlix Branch. Happy hunting. Ian

Hi Rosee 4596.
I do believe the origins of this family have now been solved and Alexander who camed to Minnesota in or before 1861, is the son of John Chisholm and can be attached to a well known Canadian family of Chisholms. The hot tip for finding this info came from the Chisholm DNA project, as the descendent of Alexander Fay shares a mutation with a canadian project member, something which nobody else in the large Chisholm-Norse group has, and we have located the common ancestor just 2 generations above the Alexander who married into the Fay family. Still looking for corroborating evidence so would love you to share what you have, epecially the pictures. I know that Alexander , died 1904 in Yakim Washington, is interred in St Charles MN.. but do you have any information on him in the 18880's being present north of miineapolis, specifically near Princeton in the south eastern corner of Mille Lac County..

I'm trying to locate documentation for the parents of Pernicia or Permicia Chisholm, born abt. 1816 in TN. At some point in time I was provided information that her parents were Ignatius Chisholm and Martha Rogers. Pernicia supposedly married Isom Perry.Ignatius Chisholm was born abt 1778 in TN and is well enough known that there is an abundance of documentation on him, but I can find no indication that Ignatius and Martha Rogers had a child by the name of Permicia or Permicia. Anyone have a clue?

Hi Rosee, I am not from this line of Chisholms, but I am administrator of the Clan Chisholm DNA project. One of our project members, still living in Minnesota, is from the line of Alex and mary's son , also named Alexander.
Whatever information you have on this family may be useful in helping to get back to the family of origin. My suspicions are that he is from a Chisholm family who were settled in the Bay Of Quinte area, northern side of Lake Ontario, and that part of this family were original settlers in Johnsons Grant, Mohawk Valley NY, while other family members came out in the post revolutionary war "Glengarry" migrations.
Picture would be wonderful, as would any vital statistics of names of children from the first generation, at the moment I am only aware of the son Alex, and I see that you have named also Thomas and Colin, plus have indicated that there is a wife prior to Mary Fay, so if there are any children from this marriage, their names and dates may be useful.
In a few months the DNA project will make public the founder line of the old Clan Chief, this will be of interest to you if you are a descendent, or an associated family, of Alexander Chisholm and Mary Fay.
The previous marriage would also be of great interst to me, and I would specifically like to know if Alexander or Wife #1 Miss Duncan were listed as Roman Catholic.
regards
Robert Chisholm

I think that I may be able to help you. There was a picture that my aunt had that showed several generations of male Chisholms in black and black top hats--I will see if she still has it. I don't think that we have any information of pre-us as he came to our family via Mary Fay in 1874 by then he had been here a while. We do have a picture of him though, actually the whole family. What line are you from?

Hi Rosee.
The Chisholm DNA project would just love to know where Alexander Chisholm , who married Mary Fay in 1873-4, was born. We know he applied for US citizenship in Winona MS around 1861, and that he was born around 1838 in Ontario. Would you be able to share any of the pre-US life of this Alexander Chisholm, potentially a very important piece in the genealogical puzzle surrounding one of the main cadet families of Clan Chisholm.
regards
Robert Chisholm
