No, the conference is for the Genetic Genealogy Community. I copied this from the website front page:
http://www.familytreedna.com/Default.aspx?c=1
The 6th annual International Conference on Genetic Genealogy for Group Administrators will be this coming October 30-31, in Houston. More details in the next few days.
Have a look around this site and there will be more information. Clan Chisholm is just one small part of what is happening in this field. There will be a Clan Chisholm administrator at the conference, Alice from California, she actually does several groups including Matheson and Macrae

Thanks Nelly.
Its best that that name of the person doing the test is the named project member, and most definitely that persons postal address is the one to be used. But we have many situations like this where a sister is more or less driving things, and you can put your email address down as the primary or secondary contact. That way you get all the info delivered to you, you get the password and access to the home pages which are set up for the project members. These homepages will include a range of helpful tools. The full range of pages is not activated until the results are posted, and so that way you can compare matches with other people, get contact details from matching people, do genealogical calculations, load results onto Y search which broadens the data base, lots of different things.
FTDNA do promotions once or twice per year, these generally contain a price discount. However by joining the DNA project as a Chisum group member, there is already a substantial discount over the regular price.. but to get this , you need to follow the process exactly when joining, and join only from the Chisholm group join page.
The next promotion by FTDNA has not been announced, I dont think there will be one in the immediate future as they will be focussing on a big conference to be held in Texas. You could always give them a phonecall at Houston, the contact numbers will be up on the website. In principal , whenever they hold a promotion, it is for a limited period of time, seems to be mostly for one month. So the Christmas 2009 promotion is long gone.
regards
Robert

Hi Robert:
Thanks for taking your time to explained all about this genealogical testing....we are 6 Chissums' sibblings in totral and two are males, therefore I'll ask my brother who lives now in Denver Colorado tu send his DNA sample that will represent all of us born under the same parents (my father is son of Milton Chissum one of the sons of WIlliam Chisum and Mary Bass). Can I joined the group and ask my brother to send the sample kit or he is the one that needs to join to get the testing package??? Is the promotion still available??
Thanks,
Nelly Chissum

Hi Nelly, would be great to have the Texas Chisums in the DNA project. I think we already have one in the project, and he is a match to 2 of the chisolms back east, one in Kentucky and the other in Alabama. So we think that we have a good take on the Chisum line, but its what I would say a bit of a volatile group, with matches not being perfect matches.
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Chisholm/default.aspx
Have a look around the project website at the address above, and if you would like to join you can access the join page from that addreess above, or go directly to it from here.
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Chisholm
This particular family line may be the earliest one in America which uses the Chisum name, although to date we have only got confirmed documentation back to 1732. Plenty of unconfirmed genealogy prior to that takes it back into the Virginia Colony of the 1600's.
You will be pleased to know that the Chisholm DNA projkect is based in Texas, at Houston on the North Loop Road. so if a member of your family joined, it wouldnt take long to get the testing kit mailed to you, and for you to mail it back. The actual DNA testing is however done at the University of Arizona. For Genealogical Testing using DNA it is only useful to use the Y chromosome, thisa is the one which follows only the male line. Hence the person to do the test in your Texas Chisum family is not you, given that your name implies you are female, hence you dont have a Y chromosome. So the actual test needs to be done on a male member of your family such as a brother cousin father uncle, and not a male cousin or uncle who is related via your mother, the surname needs to be Chisum. A female can still do a test, mitochondrial DNA, but this is more anthropological than genealogical.I hope this explains things , you can always email me by using the link on the FTDNA Chisum proje!

Robert
