This might be a big job 4U K8. Two generations married into the English aristocracy, Rev George Chisholm Vicar of Ashmore married Jane Fowle, and Leonards grandfather, Rev Charles Chisholm married Mary Tylden Pattenson, from the Tylden family which has a pedigree going back to 1153AD. Your childhood best friend can certainly have a vert bif family Tree if you wish to build it for her. If she is proud to be Scottish, the Chisholm part of her left Scotland in the 1770'sand became English. One of Leonards great Uncles was a renowned Doctor and has a plaque of remembrance in Canterbury Cathedral,(Lithograph Picture available), another was a much loved Vicar in Hammersmith and has a London street named after him.
Mary Tylden Pattenson was Leonard's grandmother, tho he probably never ever met her. Leonard's father Duncan died in Khandahar of Yellow fever, when Leonard was just nine years old.
Leonards wife Olga was born 1880 in Arbogoa, Vastmanland, Sweden.
The earliest known ancestor of this family is John Chisholm, who may have been a Miller at the Mill of Towie, near Fordyce, which is either Banff or Aberdeenshire. This is some distance out of the Chisholm homeland of Strathglass, and we have always been wondering
where this John Chisholm came from, as it was his grandson Rev Charles Chisholm of Eastwell, Kent, who was allegedly being promoted as next chief by the then Chisholm Chief, the unmarried and Childless Duncan MacDonnel Chisholm(who actually lived in London, Belgravia no less).
This is one of the reasons why it would be great if your friends family participated in the DNA project. The feeling is that their is no direct connection to the Chisholm Chiefs, and that there was just a lot of rumour, perhaps because Chief Duncan MacDonnel got on nicely with Rev Charles. We do have one DNA sample from a descendent of one of Leonard's Uncles, but with DNA its best to have 2 or 3 samples from a variety of sources before drawing any conclusions.
Regards
Robert Chisholm

I am doing this tree for my childhood best friend as a Christmas or birthday gift. She is a Chisholm and proud to be Scottish. She has a brother, father, uncle and two male cousin Chisholms. I could see her father taking part in the DNA project. I appreciate your speedy reply and I've seen your name around the genealogy sites. Thank you for your time and info.

Hi K8. Go back to the Chisholm forum and you will have a lot of messages awaiting you, heres part of them... If you would consider substituting Indiana for India, then there is a lot of info on this family in the Chisholm Database. Their origin beyond early 1700's is still somewhat of a mystery. But a most interesting, intriguing, mysterious family ancestral story...consider a rags to riches story, consider very high positions in the church, breakfast with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Lunch with The Chief of Clan Chisholm, dinner with Jane Austen, and military service for the great British Raj in the Jewell of the Empire.Consider an ancestor as being touted as heir to the Chiefship of the Clan.
Leonard died in Westboro, Ogema,Wisconsin on 13 June 1942, and if you can make contact with Ogema cemetary, there will be a record of his burial on 15 June 1942
If this is your ancestor, do you have any contact with Chisholm surnamed male descendents, whose DNA may be extremely useful in putting another piece of the puzzle together?
Read much more on the Chisholm Forum, about Leonard, Leonard's father Duncan, grandfather Charles and greatgrandfather George, great great grandfather John. Take a journey from Aberdeenshire, to Dorsetshire, Kent and London,Poonah(Pune)in India, and finally Illinois-Wisconsin

I'm trying to find info on Leonard Chisholm (born abt. 1870 in Indiana) who married Olga Anderson. They lived in Illinois and later moved to Wisconsin. He died some time after 1930. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking for any information on ancestors and/or
descendants of Annie Laura (Daisy) Fairbanks b.1867 and Isham Russell Chisum, Jr. b.1851 (my ggrandm, ggrandf). My grandmother was Lottie Mae Chisum who married Walter Edgar Beard, parents of my father, James Chisum Beard. Family legend is that Isham was working driving cattle to Vadalia, LA (Catahoula Parish) during Civil War. Growing up, we had little contact with our Chisum cousins. We are also connected to the Russells (Laura? may have been Lottie's sister-in-law). I'm looking for info on Beards, Fairbanks, Cotton as well.
