Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Well I certainly am glad that my response was met with open arms!
LOL
It is not that often other people agree with what I have to say!

I throughly agree. Give him a chance. What difference does it make
what his name is. My husband is not a Chism but his mother certainly
was.....
Be glad someone with his experience has wanted to take on the task.

I am the past list manager for the CHISHOLM group. You will notice that my
last name is not Chisholm either. I'm delighted that Jeffrey was willing to
assume the administrative duties necessary to keep a list going. What is the role
of a List Administrator? To review and delete SPAM messages, to make necessary
membership changes, keep up with all the behind-the-scenes rootsweb changes.
Surname is not a requirement.
What is the role of Members on a list? To participate, exchange information
and stay on-topic. Most Members do have a surname connection as I did.
So, my suggestion is to applaud Jeffrey for volunteering to do the "hard
stuff" and then get on with Chisholm-related messages.

My genealogy interest is in comparing the various families that 'may'
sometimes be alliterated into the s250 group which contains Scism,
Sissom, Scissom, and the variations which sound alike, like Chism,
Cissom, Zissom, etc.
In my 30+ years of doing genealogy on the Scism surname, I have often
(more often than not) found that creative spellings of the name can be
anything within earshot of the word.
Many genealogists and family historians (a minor difference in doing
things) have a tendency to look at the exact spelling vs. the
possibilities that someone somewhere has changed the spelling on paper,
thus establishing a variation in the family.
There are at least several general regions of origin for the various
surnames, and DNA studies may firmly establish which groups may or may
not converge.
The surname "Chisholm" is one name that has in the past been written
instead of "Scism" or some of its variants.
It is well established that the majority of Chisholms are not a part of
the same group that became Scisms, The Scism group is out of the Dutch
colonies, arising c. 1640 in Niew Amsterdam.
Although I am not 'actively' researching the Chisholm lines, I am
'observing' looking for clues that may indicate that a variant line may
pop up, I have been on the mail list off and on for many years.
There is a strong possibility that the branch of Scism family that
appears in Hawkins County Tennessee in 1802 (apparently out of the
blue) may actually be a Chisum family.
I have not been able to 'prove' the hypothesis, but I am still looking
for the indicators. There was a William Chisum born 1778 in Hawkins
County, leaving no adult records, his father moved on (he was a lawyer),
the William SCISM who is progenitor of the Tennessee Scism branch was
also in Hawkins County Tennessee, and is first found in 1802 on his
marriage record. He was approximately the same age as the William Chisum
above.
The Scism family was recorded in a Genealogy done in 1942 by DeLos M.
Scism, and since that research was published many researchers have
spent a lot of time trying to establish parentage for William Scism,
unsuccessfully.

You said to drop you a line, but I rather everybody see this
IGNORE THEM!!!
You took the job because nobody else wanted it! If these so called nominees
had wanted it why didn't they speak up when it became available?
I am not a CHISHOLM by name, but my father's mother was. Her line died with
the death of her brother, because he died childless.
The list manager could be anybody! They don't have nothing to do except
make sure that this does not become a site full of slander and foul
language.
I am not active here because you all are discussing another branch of
CHISHOLM which is not mine. My line came from VA to KY and then MO.
My grand mother died in NC, and my great uncle died in AR. My great aunt is
back in KY and is 96 years old!

You may be right, Donna. The distant cousin that I met on Genforum is from the oldest son's line and that was William Alexander. Their story is that 2 brothers named William and Roderick brought their families (they say Scotland) and were going to Texas. One got sick and died. He is buried in a cemetery near the La/Ar line. They say it was Roderick, but we know that he came on to La. Unless this was later than 1870. Roderick fought in the Civil War from Claiborne Parish. Had several more children after he came home. His wife, Martha, was on the later censuses and lived with the son, William. I found where he had property and a Martha bought Ar property. The La land was in N Caddo and I believe, that her land butted up to them. My g-gm lost her husband and moved in with them. My gf tells the story of living where half the house was in La and half in Ar. If you look at a La map, that would be N of Rodessa. Tell me about William Allen.....dates and places. I have seen the famil!
y on census, I recall. Thanks.

Penny, I strongly suspect that our Chisholm families were related..Campbells or not. I admit, that all I have to base those kindred feelings on is : they came from N.C. and very few Alabama Chisholms did, at least two families went to Louisiana after 1850..and they are darn hard to find anything on. All my Chisholm men were gone after 1850..except William Allen, who went to Louisiana ...and John, who went to Mobile county and DISAPPEARED AFTER 1850.
There was another chisholm listed on the 1840 census from N.C...Phillip..in Tallapoosa County, Al..and guess what?..he is gone too..after 1850...Donna

Jump right in Robert - welcome. I have worked so hard on this family.... to no avail. Any help or insight would be very much appreciated. I had a Chisholm that was helping me until a cousin from the William Alexander line came up with the Campbell name. That was un heard of......and I quote....no upstanding Chisholm would marry a Campbell. I suggested that maybe his mother was a Campbell. Lost his help! Good luck with the DNA. I have not met any Chisholms that are related to me, except on line. Thanks for any help.
