I have a John CHISHOLM from VA (1795) and died in Meade County, KY (1865).
He married a Margaret TIBBS.
Does that fit into the CHISHOLM line you are researching? And, YES, I am a
CHISHOLM decendent too.
Thanks

I am seeking information on a William Chisholm from Caledonia Mills, Antigonish. He has been referenced as a clerk. He was the father of at least seven daughters. His daughter Catherine (1842-1916) married Allan McKenzie (d. 1903) of Port Hood. Following Allan's death in 1903, Catherine moved to New Waterford with her daughter Teresa Layton and her family.
Hi there
I have this if anyone knows of this ALEXANDER CHISHOLM family please let me
know.
thanks
Judy in Canada
source: from Connell McRae of 29 Palms; descendant of John McRae and Isabel
Chisholm
Finlay McRae, that is Finlay Dubh, or black Finlay McRae, corporal in the
british army, was called the Black Corporal simply because he was so very
dark and not because he belonged to that branch of the Clan known as the
black McRaes.
A great festivity was taking place in Edinburgh. A great fighter was
roaming around the town challenging everybody and anyone to fight. The
Corporal was past the prime of life at the time but as no one else would
accept the challenge, he did. By sudden use of unexpected and somewhat
unorthodox tactics, the Corporal administered a crushing defeat upon the
braggart. That was the Black Corporal.
The Corporal had three brothers, John Farquhar and Duncan who had gone to
North Carolina some time before the revolution and had become acquainted
with Alexander Chisholm, a United Empire Loyalist who lived there. During
the progress of the revolution many of the United Empire Loyalists made
their way into Canada. Among these was Alexander Chisholm who sometime
between 1773 & 1776 settled on a farm of 160 acres in Glengarry County,
Ontario, Canada.
Back in Kintail the Corporal had married a rich lowland woman and had left
her a widow with three sons, Old John, Farquhar and /Young John. "Widow
McRae" left Kintail about 1780, accompanied by her youngest son, Young John,
intending to join her late husbands brothers in North Carolina. They were,
however ship-wrecked and landed in Canada. Here Young John, in 1804,
married Isabella Chisholm, daughter of Alexander Chisholm, and settled on a
farm of 160 acres adjoining that of his father-in-law. He had ten children
including Archibald Connell.
Nancy, I don't think the Monroe County, AL Chisholms
are connected to those in Montgomery County, NC. Have
you been able to successfully link them?
The John Chisholm that was there in Monroe County
married Matilda Curry. They moved from Monroe County
to Mobile County.

I am kin to the Chisholms in Robeson County and my great grandfather had a son named John Daniel Chisholm . He married a Marty ( could have stood for Margaret because they had a daughter named Margaret) Prescott.Do not know their births and dates. I have a pedigree chart but have not been able to find a way to send you a copy. My great grandfather was Kenneth Campbell Chisholm and was born in 1814 and died in 1885.His Father and Mother are burried in Robeson County. They came from Isle of Sky ,Scotland and came to America in 1803.

Check your dates. They are a little confusing.
Margaret was born about 1800 and had a son named John in 1810?
She would have been 10 years old!

I am looking for links to John Chisholm who married Ann MacRae sometime around 1790 - 1800.
I have reason to believe they may have been from Benevian near Glen Affric and would love to hear from anyone who may have Chisholm connections from that area around the turn of the 18th-19th centuries.
And a Happy New Year to you all!
