Al Chisholm
Arnegard, N.D. - Funeral services for Al Chisholm will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at the Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard. The Rev. Timothy J. Swenson will officiate and interment will be in the Wilmington Cemetery, rural Arnegard.
Alexander Herman Chisholm was born at Watford City on April 4, 1930, the son of Emmett Chisholm and A. Jesse (Johnson) Chisholm. He was raised in the Farland community and attended school in Arnegard.
His family moved to South Tacoma, Wash., during the war years. Al returned to Arnegard and stayed with his uncle, Melvin Johnson, to finish school at Arnegard. He graduated in 1950.
He entered the Korean Conflict in 1952, serving in the United State Army, and earning the Army Occupation medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Following his military service he worked on the McKenzie County road crew and for Crighton Distributors in Williston.
Al and June Thorson of Williston were married Sept. 2, 1972. They made their home in Williston. After brief residences in Alexander and Bainville, Mont., they moved to Arnegard. While in Arnegard Al owned and operated Chisholm's grocery and liquor.
They moved to Watford City and Al delivered mail on rural routes until 1999. In 2003 they moved back to Arnegard, living there at the time of Al's death.
During his younger days Al enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, earning a reputation as a "long-ball hitter." After his military duty he played softball in leagues around the area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, greatly appreciating the camaraderie and conversation they occasioned. He invited friends from all over to join him in these endeavors.
Al was [a] member of the American Legion Post in Watford City. He was a past member of the Arnegard Lion's Club. Al was [a] member of the Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard.
Al passed away on Feb. 27, 2004, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.
Al is survived by his wife, June; his only son, James (JC) Chisholm and fiancée, Tracy Deraas, both of Burlington; one sister, Nelva Dalby of Vancouver, Wash.; sister-in-law, Emma Thorson of Williston; nephews, Wayne Quinnell of Portland and Clair (Kathy) Thorson of Williston; and nieces Alverna (James) Martin of Gresham, Ore., Cheryl (Bruce) Lulow of Vancouver and Tammy (Kal) Beckman of Williston.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Frances Quinnell, and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Thorson and Raymond Dalby.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

I am looking for possible family members in the Boston
Mass. area. My Great Grandparents are listed there on
the 1900 census and my father reports other family living
there....a cousin named Lottie.......was visted by my uncle

MOBILE REGISTER 7 JAN 1924
William Chisholm, of 1154 Alba Street, died yestedray morning at a local hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his wife; one brother, G E Chisholm; and one sister, Mrs Edward Matzinger. The funeral will take place from the residence of his brother at Cedar and Delaware Streets this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and from St Matthew's church at 3 o'clock. Mr Chisholm was 39 years of age.
