Does anyone happen to know who Hugh McDonald Chism belongs to? I have
been researching again , and I was looking in the New Madrid county, for
Elisha Chism, when I ran across a Hugh McDonald Chisholm.
I find Ignatious Chisholm and my Elisha Chism in the same county,
Lawrence county, Ark. which was once a part of Mo. called the New
Madrid, then I find this Hugh Chisolm in New Madrid, I also find
Dennis which was Ignatious's brother in Lawrence? Does anyone happen to
know if they are related ? I also found a Ignatious Chisholm in 1803,
Arkansas county, but it was in a Missouri book? Thanks Vickie
Hi! Saw your post on John and Matilda Curry Chisholm. All I have on this
couple is there marriage date of Feb. 28, 1834 in Monroe, AL. Do you have
anything more on this couple?
Nancy
I'm still trying to make a connection but I believe that John Chisholm and
Matilda Curry, which are listed in the 1840 Monroe Co, Alabama census, are
my ancestors.
The oldest member of my Chisholm family that I can trace back with 99%
accuracy is William Allen Chisholm born 1837 in Alabama. I didn't have much
on his ancestry until recently when I came across his enrollment papers in
his Civil War compiled service record. In these records he states that he
was born in Monroe County, Alabama. He later moved to Winn Parish,
Louisiana.
The Chisholm, Curry, and Arledge families are all families that moved to the
Winn/ Caldwell Parish, Louisiana area from Monroe/ Wilcox County, Alabama. I
'm connected to this group also through an Arledge/ Curry marriage so I'm
familiar with them and their movements. I'm thinking that John is my guy
because of the family group connections and also because he was the only
Chisholm listed in the 1840 Monroe County, AL census with a son under 5.
On the 1900 census William's father was listed as being born in South
Carolina.
John Chisholm born 1810-1820 SC married Matilda Curry 1834 Monroe Co., AL
Child 1: William Allen Chisholm born 1837 Monroe County, AL

Looking for information on the Chisholm's that were in Monroe County, Alabama during the 1830's and 1840's. Mainly I would like to know were they went after leaving Monroe County.
Thank You,
Michael Guyton
Hi Crystal,
I am sorry that I didn't get back to you but I am still under this cold. I
feel somewhat better so now I can keep my mind on the Chisholms:) I wanted to
give you some information on my line of Chisholms. Originally the slave owner
David Chisholme/Chisholm came from Louisa County, Virginia. He moved into a
area known as fishing Creek in Chester district, the year was 1809/1810. When
he left Virginia he took some of his slaves with him.Included with the family
was my great great great grandmother Bridgette. David Chisholm died around
1816 and these were the slaves that he had listed on his estate sale: Ruben,
Gabriel, Ambrose, Jessie, Archibald, Philip, Mose, Mose Jr.,
John, Collin, Hoelms, Joseph, Hatton and two children, Bridgette, and Hanna
and Ned. Old Mose's wife with two children, Sarah, Dolly, Louisa, Nancy.
I have a paper where David Chisholm was in New Orleans in April of 1810
selling slaves, I have the names of the ones that he sold, the documents were
in French. This document lead me to believe that Chisholm was a slave trader.
After his death the slaves were passed onto his brother Thomas who lived in
Rocky Creek South Carolina also in Chester, District and then to Thomas
nephew and son in law/ the nephew married two of Thomas's daughters. My great
great grandfather and two of his brothers were sold after 1843, I have been
trying to located who bought them and then took them to Gainesville, Florida.
The next information that I found on the Chisholm brothers was a deed in
1869 where they bought 681 acres of land in an area called Newnans Lake, in
the rural area of Gainesville. The land cost them 35,000 lbs of sea island
cotton. My thought is that if they paid for that land with that quantity of
cotton it had to have been grown on the people who had owned them in
Florida's land, therefore it had to have been documented somewhere.
On the 1870 census there were listed quite a few people who were on the
estate sale of Suprey Chisholm, I don't know if all of them were related but
I believe that they helped pick that cotton. On one of the pieces of property
there was a ten acre grave yard, which makes me believe that they had taken
responsibility for their dead, family and exslaves.
Have you traced your ancestors to the list of slaves that I had put online?
If so let me know so we can find out what's what and who is who. I am going
to send this letter also to the Chisholm genealogy in hopes that someone will
have some ideas also. take Care.

O Lord my god , in thee I put my trust....... Psalm 7:1
Caroline Jones was born in 1808. On her marriage to Archibald Chisholm, she
took her husband's Roman Catholic faith. They emigrated to Madras in 1831
where she set up a school for soldiers' daughters. In 1838, the family moved
to Australia and almost immediately Caroline began to work for the vunerable
immigrants arriving at Sydney. She was especially concerned for the women,
who were often lured and bullied into brothels. She set up a free Registry
Office to help them obtain legitimate work and a shelter. She campaigned
rigorously for improved conditions. She returned to Britain in 1846 to press
for emigration reform and founded the Family Colonisation Loan Society. Her
Christian ministry and action led to the ending of what had virtually been
the institutionalisation of the abuse of poor women.

I don't know if this will help or not, but a few weeks ago I was
watching a documentary show that related to the loss of the fisherman
and boat called the Andrea Gail. This was a true story based on the
movie called the perfect storm. An way I can't remember the name of the
town those fellows were from but perhaps someone from the list may know
which state they were from . But someone from the list was searching
searching for Angus Chisholme. The towns people had a list of people
that were lost at see and on the list was an Angus Chisholme.
It may or not help someone, but it's a start.
Good Evening,
I am searching for information on Thedore Chisholm, mullato , according to
the 1920 census for Alachua County, Florida. He was born in Texas in 1903,
his parents were Agnes J. and Henry Chisholm. I am in search of any of his
decendants. Thedore Chisholm died in 1987 in Baltimore, Maryland. Any help
will be appreciated.
