I am looking for information on my granduncle, Thomas Chisholm. The
following is data I collected to date;
Thomas was born in Italy, 1871 to John Chisholm (Scottish Engineer, b. 1816)
and Paolina Ranaldo (Italian, b.1833). Thomas emigrated from Italy to
Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada (1873), by way of New York, along with his
parents, and brothers Daniel (my grandfather) and William. Thomas moved to
the USA sometime between 1891 and 1901 were he lived until he died. Thomas
died in New York, October 28 1928, age 57 years. His obituary stated that
was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. I dont know his wifes name
nor do I have the names of his children. I believe that the names of the
children were John and Grace, although I have not been able to confirm that.
If you have information or if you are a descendant of Thomas Chisholm, I
would be greatly appreciative of hearing from you. Please contact me at
chisholm.rjc(a)ns.sympatico.ca.
Thanks in advance
Ron Chisholm
This probably won't help you but it appears one of my ancestors sold his
farm to your ancestor.

John Chisholm, "Farmer", and his wife Ann Chisholm, came from Baile na
h-Aibhne in Strathglass, Scotland (63). They and their two little girls left
Scotland in June, 1822. One of the little girls died on the way out. They
landed at Cribbon's Point about the first of August. They found a kind and
much needed welcome in the house of Angus Ban MacGillivray, Cribbon's Point.
They sojourned for a year at the Lower South River and four years at the
West River, and settled in Glen Road on a farm adjoining the Kennedy's. Mrs.
Chisholm was a woman of superior intelligence and was a niece of the Bishops
John and Aeneas Chisholm of the Highland district of Scotland.
MacLean page 150 (63)
John Chisholm, farmer, had two sons and seven daughters: Valentine, Allan,
Ann (Mrs. Cameron, Pinevale), Margaret (Mrs. MacKinnon, Lismore), Ellen
(Mrs. Austin Chisholm, Brierly Brook), Mrs. John Chisholm (Thomas), Jennie,
Mary and Kate, unmarried.
Mrs. MacKinnon, Lismore, was mother of Anna, first wife of Ronald MacDonald,
Ohio, and of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Malcolm MacKinnon, Vancouver.
John Chisholm left his farm to his two sons. About 60 years ago Allan sold
his portion to John Chisholm (Engineer) and his wife Paolina Rinaldo
(Italy).

My aunt, Betty C. Harris, and I are preparing a new edition of the
Craft/Chisholm family book of Smith County, Mississippi. We are searching for
any descendants of John Chisholm (born 1804 Laurens, Laurens County, South
Carolina) and his wife, Verlinda Harvey (born 1815 in MS). Their children
were as follows:
1. Norman Chisholm - Born 1830 – Died 1879. Married 1855 Catherine Williams.
8 children.
2. Robert Goldsboro Chisholm – Born 4/21/1834 – Died 1/14/1914. Married
Martha Caroline Hill. 10 children.
3. Amelia – Born 1837. Married 1855 Alexander Mc (Mack) Hough. 3 children.
4. Margaret Jane – Born 3/11/1840 – Died 4/24/1876. Married Zeno Benjamin
(B) Hough. 7 children.
5. Sophronia – Born 1840 – Died 1914. Married Willis Roland. 4 children.
6. William Alexander Chisholm – Born 1843 – Died 4/3/1931. Married Hattie
Boone. 11 children.
7. Susan V. – Born 1845. No further details.
8. John Thomas Chisholm – Born 2/16/1847 – Died 5/18/1919. Married Bettie
Houston. 8 children.
9. Hugh Chisholm – Born 1848 – Died 12/7/1937. Married Marcy Houston. 10
children.
Grandchildren and etc. are too numerous to report here. If you are descended
from John CHISHOLM and his wife Verlinda HARVEY, please contact me at
nichol_storm(a)yahoo.com to be included in the book. If you do not contact me,
there is no way I can put up-to-date information about you or your family in
the book. Information about the descendants of Alexander Chisholm, John
Chisholm's brother and possible twin, is also appreciated. They came to
Mississippi by 1828; in the 1850 Smith County Federal Census there is a
45-year-old Alexander Chisholm listed as having been born in South Carolina,
as well as his 43-year-old wife, Rosanna, who was also born in South
Carolina.
Best wishes from your cousin,
Jessica Chisholm,
a great-great-granddaughter of John Thomas Chisholm and Bettie Houston.
Hello Ian,
I may have contacted you some years ago re the name Chisholm but thought I'd try again as we've had computer failures, changed servers, etc. that have caused loss of any previous e-letters.
My Chisholm's to which I am related through my grandmother, are, at this point in my research, all from the Banffshire region of Scotland. Mixed in with them are Davidson, Eddie, Lawrence, Fetch, Hay, Collie, to name a few.
If by chance you see a connection, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
Jen Agar,
Kamloops, BC

Good afternoon,
I am researching the African American Chisholm families, I am researching the
areas of Louisa counties, Albemarle, Hanover areas, and any other areas that
I am not aquatinted with. My great great great grandmother Bridget was a
slave belonging to David Chisholme of the Louisa/Goochland areas. In 1810 he
moved into Chester District, South Carolina. after his death in 1816 the
slaves were passed on to his brother Thomas. After 1843 some of the slaves
were sold and taken to Gainesville, Florida. I would like to hear from any
Chisholms that may have any information, and any Chisholms from the areas
that I have previously mentioned. Thank you.

Jerry,
Where in NC were your Chisholms? - mine are in the Fayetteville (Cumberland
County) area and I can't find John Robert Chisholm's father - but he was
married to Sarah Shaw Campbell (I believe). She was born in 1808 and
married <unknown> Chisholm in 1823. I only know of two children
(daughters) from that union - Maria Louisa Chisholm and Janet Chisholm.

After a trip to Monroe County, Alabama and several visits to the
library I now believe that my Chisholms were from Montgomery
County, North Carolina.
Does anyone have any info on the Montgomery Co Chisholms?
They were founded by Murdock Chisholm from Scotland. For
the moment I'm mostly interested in finding out about his
descendants named Daniel. There were a couple of Daniels
in Montgomery Co., NC about the same time most likely
cousins and I'm not sure which one later moved to Monroe
County, Alabama.
Thank You
Michael
