Hello Folks,
I happened upon a book that was written by Emmitt Star called "Old Cherokee
Families". Norman: University of Oklahoma Foundation 1972.E99.C5582 1976.
Prior to this printing, it was: "Old Cherokee Families: and Their genealogy"
Reprinted J.J. Hill, Norman Oklahoma University of Oklahoma Foundation 1968.
Since I am ever conscious of the fact that my wife is Cherokee, and have
been looking for proof of that fact for ages, I always look in whatever
sources I happen upon or seek out and find. I did write down a number of
facts from this book to investigate later. (This was last summer.) Which
facts I chose to write down were based on the surnames I research. I will
write down my notations here in the event one or more of the facts may be of
interest to a Chisholm-line researcher. If any are of interest to you, you
might search out the book and see what else it has to offer. These facts are
mostly one-liners.
Thomas Chisholm married Melinda Wharton.
Jennie Elizabeth Chisholm married Joseph Blagne Lynde and Caswell Wright
Bruton.
Alfred Finney Chisholm married Margaret Harper
Narcissa Clark Chisholm married Robert Latham Owen
Alice Chisholm married James Henry Cobb
Narcissa Chisholm married Matthew Arthur and Frank Taylor
Mary Pauline Bean married William Blythe, John Friend, and Samuel G.
Heffington
John Crutchfield, July 29, 1822 - Sept. 1996, married Mary Etta Ladd and
Emma Gibbs
Daniel Ross married Naomi Chisholm and Sarah Halfbreed
Susie Pindar married William Wharton Chisholm
In the fall of 1828, the Tennessee conference (Cherokee) made the folowing
appointments for the Cherokee Nation: Superintendent of Missions: Reverend
William McMahon (Methodist).
Samuel Smith was elected asistant Chief of the Cherokees in 1887. He was
prosperous full-blood and spoke the Cherokee language only - and was a
distinguished orator
1889 Clerk of the Senate was Andrew Henderson Norwood
Judge of Tallequah Disrict - 1851/53/59 was Thomas Davis
Sheriff of Canadian District 1857 - John Porum Davis. He was Solicitor in
1853.
Don't know if these names ring any bells for anyone - hope they do though.
The Chisholm line includes some Smiths, Norwoods, Davis, and McMahans so I
included facts on those names.
Happy genealogical hunting, Ron Crooker
Need more information on the background of Elijah Henry Chisholm, born about 1858/1860, perhaps in Iowa, died about 1955, Hilltop, Boone County, Arkansas.
He and his wife are found in the 1910 census in Tulare County, Lemon Cove Township, California.
He married Jennie Elizabeth Tye (Fenton), born 9 May 1861, Lock Springs, Daviess County, Missouri, died 3 July 1952, Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Ferdinand Metsor Tye and Delilah Hicks of Missouri.
She was married first to William Overton Fenton and lived in Pottawatomie County, Kansas. She had three children by her first marriage.
By 1920 the Chisholms were living in Hilltop, Boone County, Arkansas.
Helen MacDonald, Hayden Lake, Idaho
My quest is for Colin Chisholm and Catherine Morrison of Mid-Crochail,
in the Parish of Kilmorack who were married 29 May 1848. Colin and
Catherine migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1849 where they had four
sons.
Colin is listed in the 1841 census as a cattle dealer aged 35 residing
at Mid-Crochael with Mary Chisholm also aged 35. The natural assumption
is that they are married but it may also be that they are brother and
sister.
There are no records which give any definitive information as to the
family of Colin Chisholm. His parents are unknown and it is not known if
he had any siblings. Colin emmigrated to Melbourne (later to
Maryborough), Australia where he had four sons named Colin, John,
Roderick and Alexander in order of birth. Naming tradition would have
that the first born son called after the paternal grandfather, second
son after the maternal grandfather (as he is) and the third son after
the fathers brother (?) and fourth son after wifes brother (as he is).
I can trace Catherine back 2 generations but Colin has me at a brick
wall.

Hello,
I'm researching John W. Chisholm/Chisum and William G. Chisholm/Chisum,
both sons of Obediah of Robertson Co, Tn. It is also possible that William
G. is the son of John W. Both William G and John W. appear to have been
born in Charlotte Co Va. William G. ca 1814 and John W. ca 1797.
Any help on the folks will be greatly appreciated.

Here is my roll call. Looking for information on the parents of George
Washington Chism. He was born on 29 Jan 1860 in Nillisville, Charlton, GA.
I believe his parents are James and Ellender Chism. George married an
Elma or Elminia YARBROUGH. They had the following children: Martha Ellen,
Lucetta, Charlie, Willie, Mississouri, Robert Leon, James Stanley, and
Celia.
Would anyone have information on this family or any leads for me?
Thanks
Tami
I am searching for information on Thomas D. Chisham. The only information I have, is that he married a Julia Stribling in Kentucky in June of 1834. He later disappeared after leaving his family behind to go to the California Gold Fields.
There is a chance that his mother's maiden name was Dinwiddie. It is said that at one time our family name was spelled Chisholme, and came from Scotland.
Thomas's son Napolean Bonaparte was my great grandfather. Napolean was born July 17, 1849 in Jackson County, Missouri.
He died December 8, 1935 at Wichita, Kansas, and is buried at Toronto, Kansas. His first wife was Mary Harriet Cornelia Johnson. She was the daughter of Daniel Johnson and Mary Hamilton. Mary Harriet was born March 14, 1853 in Rising Sun, Indiana.
If any of these names sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you. Or if you have any suggestions to help direct me in my search, please by all means feel free to share them. I'm still pretty new to geneology, and any help is appreciated.
Deah
My Chisholm search, so far, includes the following:
George C. Chisholm (1848 - 1903) married to Harriet Van Brocklin (1847 - 1901) in Stoneboro, Pa.
Their son George Chisholm (1882-1941) married to Minnie Patterson (1880 - 1936) in Stoneboro, Pa.
Their daughter Elizabeth Naomi Chisholm (1905-1966) married to Arthur J Wilson (1907 - ) in Sharon, Pa.
Also have side branches of these ancestors.
Looking for birthplace of George C. Chisholm and his parents.
Hi everyone
As one of the very new members that Horatio mentioned I'll note
that I'm an Australian Chisholm searching for connections from
Ballarat Victoria, Australia.
I have a forebearer arriving in Australia - in 1854 - he was Valentine
Chisholm - arriving with his brother Alexander on the St Helena into
Sydney NSW as assisted immigrants.
Valentine's parents are recorded as Alexander Chisholm and Mary
MacPherson - and Valentine was born in Strathglass,
Inverness, Scotland - around 1829.
There also appears to have been some shire or council records
that indicate that the family could have used Chisholme at some
stage - but all the Births, Deaths and Marriage records indicate
no e.
My family connects directly back to Valentine - with a
Valentine in every generation here in Australia.
Regards Karen Chisholm
Hello All,
I am doing Chisholm research and have found a number of Chisholms in Texas,
Alabama, and Tennessee. One I am particularly interested in is Jennie Nancy
Chisholm, daughter of Ben Frank Chisholm and Didam Boren. I cannot find any
"proof" that Didama and Ben are Jennie's parents - or that they were even
married. Anyone know anything about these two folks? Also, Jennie Nancy
Chisholm married Thomas L. Davis of Hardin Co., Tennessee. I would dearly
love to find out who his parents were, but the Davis surname is like a
plague - they are all over the place, spreading like wildfire! Anyway, happy
Chisholm hunting to you all. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any data I might
have in response to your queries. Mean-while, if (during your exciting
genealogical journeys) you find any news about a Ben Frank Chisholm and
Didama Boren marriage, or about the parents of Jennie Nancy Chisholm's hubby
Tom Davis, please let me know. By the way, Ben frank is one of the 12
children of John Red buck Chisholm. They make up quite a family, let me tell
you. Also, three cheers for Paul McAfee and his efforts to manage this
site - good work Paul.
Happy hunting. Ron

Howdy Folks. I am Horatio Paul McAfee, the list administror (or is it
ad-monistrator) for the Chisholm rootsweb list. We have added a number
of new members to the list in the last couple of months and it would be
a good time for a roll call.
A roll call is where each member of the list posts a message telling us
what Chisholm line or family they are interested in. That way we can
learn a lot and perhaps even find that genealogical gem we have been
looking for. Even if you have posed a message on your Chisholm interests
before, please do so again.
So, I will start the roll call rolling ...
I am interested in the "Redbuck" Chisholm line. This was John
Chisholm, son of Captain John Chisholm of Kings Mountain. Redbuck was
born in Virginia and served in the War of 1812. He lived most of his
adult life in Lauderdale Co. Alabama. He had many children, one of
which was Enoch P. Chisholm, an early Texas settler for whom the
Rockwall County community of Chisholm was named. That, briefly, is the
focus of my Chisholm interests.
Now, let's hear from you -- send a email to the Chisholm-l list (not to
me because everyone on the list needs to see it).
We are all looking forward to hearing from you.
Fraternally,
Paul
